Unsatisfactory for basic amenities, staffing, internet/streaming, not to the standard we've previously known for Marriott.
Our family got a king bed for my wife & I (I am 6'6" and need a king bed) and pull-out couch w/ specifically requested roll-away for our 2 small children. At front counter we got a delightful woman named Pamela, who fully checked us in. Despite the booked roll-away, we were told this room actually does not accommodate a roll-away due to fire code - no problem we would simply have our small children share the pull-out couch.
We later found our $600+/night room had a twin-size pull-out not full-size, and we asked for 4 sets of blankets and pillows for our son who is alright w/ sleeping on the floor (no other rooms available w/ king bed, and queen, or standard-size pull-out couch), front desk said they would be right up. We received only 1 set, and had to call back being actually told no more were available.
We couldn't believe it, we said this is not alright, without another room to upgrade (happy to pay, paid much more for rooms all along our vacation) we needed more blankets and pillows. They agreed to send up 1 more set (total 2). Asking for the manager, we spoke to the 'Operations Supervisor' (never spoke to one of these before at a hotel) Juraesha said this was all they could do - a Marriott, couldn't help us with our blankets and pillows.
"RUN OUT OF BLANKETS" The maintenance person Emerson, who had been there for 10 years, on his first visit said a "kid's team" was in town and had "run out," on his 2nd visit we asked more about this "kid's team," and he looked at us confused and said there were "other children and seniors" in the hotel that needed the blankets, we would need to contact the front desk for more
Eventually after 2.5 hours, after we had already un-packed, showered w/ our younger children, we were offered an upgrade that had previously been unavailable at a cost of $150; I asked again 'can you just send the extra blankets?' Then told they could do the upgrade for $50 extra. Asked again for the blankets. They then begrudgingly agreed to a 3rd set (instead of 4).
I've never interacted with an 'operations supervisor' as a part of a stay, but it felt like the hotel maybe had difficulty managing the most basic amenities, and perhaps had actually run-up due to poor operations, despite having a dedicated person. Or worse, chose someone to penny-pinch guests on something that has been standard for decades even at motels.
That evening, kids also partied in the hallways until early morning, about which nothing was done.
POOR STREAMING -Very poor streaming - streaming services are some of the lowest quality to be un-usable. See attached video. Waited up to 15+ minutes, multiple times, to play a single show (this was after already logging in our subscriber account information), and sometimes it would not load at all (we experienced the same exact issue in Portland at the Courtyard Marriott a month earlier.).
OUTLETS -Problematic electrical outlet plug-ins do not work well w/ standard ac adapters, simply fall out (another video attached).
CONCLUSION This left a terrible taste to the end of our vacation. We've had always assumed Marriott offers a problem-free experience for families staying there, but it did not at all come across this way IMO, and even it appears their on a terrible descension -- we will be of other hotels than Courtyard by Marriott / Marriott in the future (previously a family favorite over multiple generations & years).
*for what it is worth I am operations manager for 10+ years for 15+ people for a multi-million company, hope this helps others and Marriott ('Dissatisfaction is the basis of all progress" - J....
Read moreThe property is very close to the airport within the two mile radius to use the hotels free shuttle, easy access to the mall bus hub, close to the park n ride. The hotel grounds are well kept, the rooms and beds were comfortable. Great shuttle drivers friendly and accommodating within their two mile radius. I felt for myself it was to far away from activities that we like to do. The tour companies we used did not offer hotel pickup so it was inconvenient to get to the locations, standing on the side of the road at the park n ride waiting for a tour was not the way I like to leave on a tour, the park n ride is next to the road it just a pill off the side with parking spaces, no where to sit or no covered areas for shade. The shuttle takes you to the mall so you can catch the bus, not knowing the area we took lyft to catch the city bus to Lahaina so we could ride the 6:30am bus for our check in at 8:45am ferry ride to Lanai not knowing the traffic. That evening their was an accident on the one lane highway which cancelled the first bus we should have been on putting us on the last bus that goes from Lahaina back to the mall to catch the shuttle back to the hotel. Their are no restaurants close to the hotel, we walked to the food trucks, which were not always open, walked to Poi by the Pound. The pizza delivery was not good and arrived cold. The staff did not really seem to know where you could eat nearby so they had no recommendations and their was nothing provided in the rooms to let you know so we used google maps to find places we could walk to or used lyft. The has a very...
Read moreSo this is a tough one. Not tough because the facility is great but in a bad neighborhood, or in need of renovations with a great staff, or anything like that. For me, it's tough because the cost of the stay really exceeds the average expectations of what you expect to get in a hotel room for the price you pay. I do understand that this is Hawaii, but I also feel there's a bit of price gouging going on. They hide it behind supply and demand references, but in reality, it's just taking advantage of travelers in my opinion.||This place is located near the beach. It's just a couple minutes drive and you're on the beach. If you prefer to walk it's about 10-15 minutes. Now the beach access that I found seemed to be populated by locals only. I went jogging through the area and that's all I saw. It’s also just a couple minutes drive to the back way to the airport terminal.||My room was nice and spacious with a large flatscreen TV. Technically, I had an ocean view room, but in reality, the view was all blocked by trees except for a tiny section and the ocean was far away.||There wasn’t a microwave in the room. There is one you can use next to the front desk. Free WiFi!…hi speed for a fee is available. Right next door is a food truck lot with several option from shaved ice to seafood.||I also used the fitness center. It did the trick and the equipment was in descent shape. Normally, I would reduce my ratings by a star for unreasonably high prices. But this is Hawaii, so my rating doesn’t reflect that. So other than the price, this is a pretty standard...
