My husband and I were at this hotel for 2 weeks, Oct. 6-20, 2014. Where to begin- The first problem was the desk clerk neglecting to mention that we needed a parking pass for the car. After parking the car my husband decided to ask if we needed one and went to the guest services (b/c of line at front desk checking in) and asked, he was told no. He did go back to the front desk and ask and was then told yes and given one. This should have been done when we checked in b/c we told them we had a car and would be self parking it. The worse problem was the wi fi, it was very slow and difficult to connect, when it finally did connect it would constantly cut out. An engineer came to the room to check it, after he left I sat on the bed, the wifi connection right by the bed, and it took over 4 minutes to connect. For the price of this hotel, this wifi should work better. I sat in our car the other day outside of a McDonald's and the wifi connected in 5-10 seconds. The next complaint and this was a big pet peeve of mine, and one I thought that was really tacky. Each hotel has a certain color beach towel. This marriott's towels were white with green stripes. You would assume if you are sitting on "their" color beach towel that you are staying at this hotel - no- I was asked each day if I was an owner or guest then asked name and room number. When I said guest I was given a paper wrist band to wear, different color for each day. The type of wrist band given at carnivals or wine festivals. Can I say TACKY. I have mentioned this to several people and they just rolled their eyes and couldn't believe it. I can understand that people use other hotel pools, but no one in the pool was asked their name and room number, just those sitting on the beach towels. When we booked the hotel my husband requested a Garden view, I guess if you looked way to the left it is a garden view, but if sitting on the balcony enjoying a glass of wine, we had a lovely view the parking lot, main road and the construction of the hotel next door. Worst room we have ever had at a Marriott in the 20+ years we have been staying at this chain. The amenities in the bathroom were always different. We were never sure what we would find when we went into the bathroom Sometimes we would get 2 shampoos, no lotion- 2 conditioners- no shampoo. sometimes we got shampoo, lotion and conditioner but no soap. The 3rd day there I actually had to ask if we were to have lotion in the room. I was told yes and then left a note for the maid to leave some. We stayed at the Marriott in Wailea the last time and kicking ourselves for not staying there again. Loved that Marriott, Chose this Marriott b/c we thought we would try a different end of the island. I certainly would not recommend The Marriott Maui Ocean Club and would never stay there again. My husband told the desk clerk, as were were checking out, if someone gave him a timeshare there, he would take it and immediately take it into Lahaina...
Read moreOut of all the hotels on the coastline of west Maui, this is the worst one to stay at, and I mean that. I have travelled a lot over the past 5 years for work and pleasure, so I know very well on how to weigh pros and cons of a place keeping their price points in mind. This hotel by far disappointed the most. Upon check-in, I had mention to the staff that there should be notes on the account for switching to a different room. Not only did they tell me the notes were not visible for them, they flat out told me that they are happy to cancel the whole reservation for me and I am welcome to look elsewhere. They made it sound like a favor that they would just cancel without charging me any cancellation fees. I flew 10+ hours to get here, and the last thing I wanted to hear was they can cancel without charging me fees instead of accommodating me. Now if you think this review is solely just for this upset, you’re wrong...keep reading. After already frustrated about this and being tired from all day of traveling, I checked in regardless. Literally 5 minutes in yo my stay, I get a call that I “forgot” to pick up my welcome packet downstairs. They made it sound like it was almost mandatory for me to have it, and also they’re closing in 5 minutes as it was late in the day, so it was in my best interest to come down and get it now. So I rush down in my dress shirt and shorts just to find out that I’m being scammed into thinking that signing me up for a 90 minute timeshare presentation was the “welcome packet”. I politely declined, after which the sales pitch started..”Let’s sign you up, and you can cancel later if you change your mind”. I told the individual that it’s too late in the day, I am tired, and I’ll give it more thought over my stay if I want to attend, and left. Oh you think we’re done? Not yet. This hotel does not have a proper beach during the winter because the shores climb up and cover all the sand. You are better off going to Hyatt 5 minutes south that seemed to have a lot more guests. Also, if you only want a 4 ft deep pool (5 ft in a very small area where there is a slide), by all means, enjoy yourself, but if the ocean waves are strong and there is no sand to chill on, I want more than a 4 ft deep pool to hang out in. And the kicker, checkout is at 10 am. 10 am! I called and requested late checkout as a courtesy, and was quickly put in my place that this resort does not offer late check out and also the owner of the room was checking in so there was no way I was going to be allowed to go past that. I am paying good money to stay here, which btw, is going in the owners pocket, but who cares about a paying customer, right? So there you go. Judge this place on your own or based on this review. I’ll be posting the same on Bon Voyage app soon and anywhere else I can have access for review. Hope...
Read moreThis resort is huge and absolutely gorgeous. We had the partial ocean view room. We had two very spacious rooms, one room consisted of a kitchenette with a full size refrigerator, dishwasher, sink, full bathroom, dining table, spacious living room and a wrap around balcony. The second room consisted of a comfy king bed, sofa, a full bath and another balcony. Both the rooms were very clean and well maintained.
The kitchenette was fully stocked as a full kitchen. We were able to prepare simple breakfast like toasted bagel and make coffee every day. Since the fridge was a full sized fridge, we stocked it up with fresh juices, fruits and all our favorites for easy breakfast and snacks. Also we were able to eat takeout dinners using real plates, glasses and silverware. The cabinets were fully stocked with pots and pans to cook in. We noticed a communal kitchen in the lobby right outside of the elevator and noticed few families cooking their meals. We didn’t plan on it this time, but since we both love to cook, we definitely plan on making use of it next time.
The housekeeping staff were excellent. They always made sure our rooms were sparkling clean and well stocked daily.
The pools were gorgeous with slides and my daughter loved the kiddie pool with the pirate ship and slide.
We also really appreciated their water bottle filling station. We loved it so much, we stopped at Costco to buy the refillable water bottles. The water was always so nice and chillied which we loved.
I loved that they are not about nickel and diming their resort guests. They always had laundry detergents in the room for our use and they didn't charge us to use their washers and dryers, which is such a welcome change from most hotels and resorts we have stayed in.
The staff at the hotel was always so very nice and greeted us with courtesy and a smile every time they saw us.
Randy the bellman was so very helpful and courteous. I am the kind of foodie who loves to explore a culture through food. It is not that I do not enjoy fancy foods in fancy restaurants, but my heart truly belongs to small mom and pop, hole in the wall gems, where the food is no fuss but cooked with love and totally delicious. Randy gave us so many truly local restaurants to eat at which was wonderful and we managed to eat in every one of his recommended places and all turned out to be really delicious, just what we needed.
We had the best time in this lovely resort. Randy, is a huge asset to this resort. He went out of his way to make our stay so memorable. We cannot wait to come back and stay here again. Highly...
