#2113- Kaanapali Alii 3 Bedroom. Top Floor, Ocean view Great Property, Terrible Remote Property Manager In general, the property is good, a little dated, but the views on the top floor are great. However, our overall rating is low due to ongoing bad experiences with the Remote Property Manager (RPM) Katie located two time zones away. Day 1 of 10 We requested to get into the property a couple of hours earlier. RPM Katie accommodated our request. Though we were charged the daily resort fee, we felt it reasonable and appreciated her accommodation. When we got to the room, we were happy enough with the condition of the condo, just wished there was a better working coffee machine and blinds in the master bedroom, but no big deal, we didn’t complain. We were happy just to be in Maui. Day 4 of 10 While having breakfast on the deck, we were all startled to find that the owner of the condo had walked unannounced into the condo. He was startled to see us too and said that he had no idea that the condo was occupied. He was apologetic and once again, we didn’t complain. Later that night, we returned to the condo and all 5 guest keys had been deactivated. Since the owner mentioned his calendar didn’t show anyone checked in, we became worried and went down to the Alii front desk to verify our reservations. Alii staff confirmed our reservation and reactivated our keys. They reiterated that if we did have any issues, we needed to contact the RPM Katie. At this point, since it’s impacting our stay, we are all becoming concerned about the lack of communication between RPM Katie and the property owner. Day 5 of 10 RPM Katie contacted us requesting access for the owner to get into his locked closet in the condo. We scheduled a time later that day and a member of our group stayed behind to meet him in the condo. During the owner’s visit, he asked to see the new blinds in the master bedroom. He became concerned to discover there were no blinds installed. Clearly, he was told the blinds had already been installed. Day 8 of 10 While we were preparing to leave for a day-long snorkel trip, we got a phone call from the Alii front desk informing us that there was a contractor on-site asking to come up and install blinds. We informed the front desk we didn’t know anything about a blind installation appointment and to contact the owner of the condo. 10 minutes later, another member, who was out running a quick errand, received a frantic phone call from RPM Katie requesting immediate access to the condo in to have the blinds installed. She offered a $100 restaurant gift certificate for our inconvenience. We declined immediate access. We explained that the woman staying in the bedroom had already left the condo and we did not feel comfortable, moving her clothes, jewelry and personal items, so a stranger could come up for two hours to install blinds. Then 15 minutes later, as the remainder of our party was ready to walk out the door for the snorkeling trip, there was a knock on the door and the contractor was there asking for access to install the blinds, saying he was authorized by the occupants. We politely told him that we were the occupants and we did not authorize his visit. At this point, our plans for the day had to be abandoned, as some of our group stayed behind trying to make sense of what was going on, fearful of what was going to happen next, and searching the internet to confirm that Hawaii does indeed have a minimum 48-hour renter notification requirement for non-emergency rental access. When we got home from our trip, we were further aggravated to find that the RPM Katie charged us $250 for a contractor rescheduling fee. We promptly disputed the charge with VRBO and won the dispute. The entire $250 was forced to be returned by VRBO. We suspect, based on how poorly RPM Katie does her job, we are not the first dispute VRBO has had to resolve for...
Read moreFrom the moment I arrived at Kaanapali Alii Resort, I knew I was in for something special. Nestled on the shores of Maui's famed Kaanapali Beach, this resort is truly a gem that offers the perfect blend of luxury, comfort, and natural beauty.
The location of Kaanapali Alii is simply unbeatable. It’s situated right on the golden sands of Kaanapali Beach, where the sound of the waves and the gentle breeze instantly lull you into a state of relaxation. The beach itself is pristine, with crystal-clear waters that are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, or simply soaking up the sun. Being so close to Whalers Village and a short drive from Lahaina made it easy to explore the area, yet the resort's serene atmosphere made it feel like a secluded paradise.
The accommodations at Kaanapali Alii exceeded all my expectations. My suite was not just a room — it was a home away from home. Spacious, immaculately clean, and beautifully decorated, it offered all the amenities I could have asked for and more. The full kitchen was well-equipped, making it easy to prepare a meal when I wanted to stay in, but with so many dining options nearby, I was equally tempted to explore the local cuisine.
The bed was incredibly comfortable, providing the best sleep I’ve had in years, and waking up to the breathtaking views of the ocean was a dream come true. The living area was perfect for unwinding after a day of adventure, and the private lanai offered stunning sunset views that I’ll never forget.
Kaanapali Alii’s amenities are top-notch. The pool area is beautifully designed, offering both family-friendly areas and quiet zones for those seeking a more peaceful experience. I particularly enjoyed the beachfront cabanas — perfect for lounging the day away with a good book or just taking in the views. The fitness center was well-equipped, and the tennis courts were a fun way to stay active during my stay.
One of the highlights was the barbecue areas. The resort provides high-quality grills in a beautifully landscaped setting, where I enjoyed cooking fresh local fish and dining under the stars. The friendly and helpful staff made sure everything was spotless and ready for use at all times.
The service at Kaanapali Alii was exceptional from start to finish. Every staff member I encountered was friendly, attentive, and genuinely committed to ensuring that my stay was nothing short of perfect. Whether it was the front desk team, the housekeeping staff, or the activity coordinators, everyone went above and beyond to make my stay memorable. It’s clear that they take great pride in what they do, and it really shows in the level of service they provide.
What truly set my stay at Kaanapali Alii apart was the overall experience. From the moment I stepped onto the property, I felt a sense of peace and relaxation that I’ve rarely encountered elsewhere. The combination of luxurious accommodations, stunning natural surroundings, and warm, attentive service made this stay one for the books.
Whether I was lounging by the pool, strolling along the beach, or exploring the local area, every moment was pure bliss. The resort perfectly balances the convenience of a full-service property with the tranquility of a private retreat. It’s an ideal choice for anyone looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and indulge in a truly unforgettable Hawaiian getaway.
My stay at Kaanapali Alii was nothing short of magical. It’s rare to find a place that not only meets but exceeds every expectation, and this resort did just that. If you’re looking for a luxurious, relaxing, and unforgettable stay in Maui, look no further than Kaanapali Alii. I can’t wait to return to this little slice of paradise and create even more wonderful memories.
Highly, highly...

Pros- room is big. Pool was not very crowded, there’s lots of shade. Fitness center was used to freshen up before flight- very clean. Housekeeping was daily and the house keepers were all so kind. Parking was a breeze.
Cons- Hot tub had run out of propane. We got there on a Monday, and per other guests, it had been days without heated water. One day at the pool, an intense gas smell came out of no where. It literally cleared the entire pool area in a matter of minutes. People literally were running with their little kids because it was absolutely horrific and so strong. No one came by to say anything and when we asked, staff said they didn’t know. We were on the 8th floor during our stay, ocean view 2 bedroom. We booked it and said we had a baby and toddler. It was terrible - there were breakables EVERYWHERE. I don’t care if the place is outdated, but it was beyond not appropriate for a family with young kids. The ocean view was more of a partial ocean view- the balcony obstructed a lot. Again- whatever, we’re in Maui! Except… THE COCKROACHES. They were ALL over the patio. There is a garden bed that hangs off the rail and it was infested. They were in the water lines! We couldn’t even use the balcony. Staff seemed less than concerned and offered to spray. We declined because we didn’t want our baby around the chemicals and they offered no other solution. There shouldn’t be cockroaches on the 8th floor. I get we’re in a tropical climate- but it was flat out disgusting. We kept asking when we would know about late checkout (again, we had a baby and a toddler) and we were obviously willing to pay. they didn’t know until 11am THE DAY OF CHECKOUT. How is that even possible? They said someone was coming to look at the unit (maintenance) and the owner had it blocked. Fine, but you didn’t know until checkout time? Absurd. The biggest thing- when we booked, we requested pack n plays/cribs for our babies. No charge was mentioned anywhere. When they brought it to the room- no one said anything again. At checkout, they charged us $600!!! If we knew they charged $40/day per pack n play, I would have bought one at Target and donated it to another family after for a LOT less $$. $600 and they took ZERO responsibility. Maybe they should have it written somewhere or tell the guest, but they don’t. We warned other families at the pool- NONE of them knew they were charging $40/day. I hate sneaky business. The woman that works the front desk is clearly annoyed with her job and it shows - she was terrible the entire time we were there.
We booked through Costco. We enjoyed Aston Whalers Village and the Hyatt much more in the past and will not be returning.
Do yourself a favor and stay away from this place. There are way better options for the same price /...
