Staying at the Hometown Studios at Dallas, Mesquite under the Westgate banner was a huge disappointment. I needed a place to stay temporarily until my home got ready for me to move in. My family booked me a HomeTown suite under the Westgate properties timeshare. The Westgate name alone, stands for itself. You expect quality service, a squeaky clean standard, and the usual great customer service that you normally receive at Westgate properties. That has not been the case here at Hometown Studios in Mesquite, Texas. The room seemed surface cleaned but not deep cleaned. Parts of the hardwood floor needed mopping and there was no broom or dustpan in the room. There also were no dishes, glasses, silverware, or pots and pans in the room.. It has been my experience, that this is the usual standard for a studio suite of rooms and or extended stay hotels. ||||I guess it was okay that I was given a studio type apartment since I was only one person. I did have a full size refrigerator, microwave and a stove top burner to cook on. Only one of the burners worked, but on the first day neither of them came on and it wasn't until the third day that the front burner finally heated up and came on. Again there were no pots or skillets to cook with and when I inquired of them I was told that I would have to pay a surcharge for the use of cookware and dishes in my suite to prepare a meal. Not being informed of this upfront, meant that I had to eat out daily and be conservative about how I spent money on food. ||I expected to be able to cook daily I stead of eating out. ||Additionally, there was no iron, ironing board, hair dryer or coffee pot nor tea in the studio either. Again, when I inquired of these items, I was told that no iron no ironing board was available that the hotel did not offer them at all. I asked for two bottles of water as I had run out of mine own, did not feel comfortable going out into the neighborhood to purchase water at night. I was told that Hometown Suites did not have water to offer to their guests.|||| When we booked this hotel I believe I understood the Westgate agent to tell us that this location was near downtown Dallas. I specifically asked to be in the Dallas area as this was an out of state move for me and being in the Dallas area would put me close to where I needed to conduct business. It was only when I began to physically navigate the drive here that I discovered the place was nowhere near Dallas but in Mesquite which is at least a 30-40 mins drive away from the Dallas area. There is high construction in this area and getting into the hotel means I have to navigate through broken up and dirt road entryways to get to the hotel. ||||Upon arrival, the front desk personnel, gave me the opportunity to check out the room to see if I was comfortable with it before choosing to take it. The first unit I reviewed was on the first floor around the corner on the back side of the hotel. There was a bit of trash on the grounds outside, and peeping into the outer hallway, I saw large trash cans that were full and overflowing with trash. All the trash was bagged and some bags were on the floor. Returning to the front desk, I informed the clerk that I would prefer a room that was on the second floor and on the front side of the hotel. He was quite understanding and immediately sent me to another room to check out which is the room that I chose for my stay here. I noticed at the end of the day that there was a large gap at the bottom of my door probably more than an inch which would allow bugs and what have you to enter into the room under the door which was exactly the case the very next morning I had to squash some kind of bug that looked three times larger than a roach that just walked into the room because of the large gap at the bottom of the door. Since that time I have stuffed a towel and plastic bags underneath the gap to prevent something like this from happening again.||||Customer service at the front desk explained to me that since I was staying at least a week that there would only be one day for cleaning services and that day would be Wednesdays. Wednesday morning housekeeping knocked in my door, announcing "housekeeping services". When I opened the door there were two maids with a cart. One of the maids asked if I want a room service, I said yes she stood there looking at me and asked me if I could strip my bed of sheets and bring her any laundry that I might have that I wanted replaced. Shocked, I robotically stripped down the bed bringing her the sheets and towels. She then had the gall to ask me to bring her my trash! Fuming, I did and as I pulled the trash bag out I discovered that the inside of the trash can obviously hadn't been cleaned before my moving into the room. There were food particles and crumbs stuck on the sides and bottom of the trash bin to boot! I was ||completely overwhelmed by her request and just thought well I guess this goes along with the standard that this studio suite of hotels offers. |||| I am truly disappointed that Westgate properties has an association with such a poorly run chain of extended stay properties as this one. It was a huge letdown from the Westgate experiences my family has enjoyed in the past. In my opinion, HomeTown Suites, Dallas, Mesquite, is a bad scar on the Westgate name. HomeTown Studios by Red Roof Inn, is a poor representation of the Westgate name. I would have left the next morning, but of course the are no refunds or cancellations offered. I am hoping that Westgate will honor their name and make this horrible experience into a happy one. I am counting down the days of my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreRating 2 stars as it could be a whole lot worse. That being said, as far as hotels go this place was so unbelievably substandard. I used to think there was a bare minimum of quality and hospitality at every hotel but I guess this place just has a different idea of those things.
Firstly, like everyone has said, yes there are roaches. The worst kind too: German Cockroaches. If you stay here I recommend you keep your clothes and tech sealed up tight in some sort of container because these roaches absolutely will take a trip back with you and infest your home. As someone who has personally purged a German Cockroach infestation from my own home, I have some advice for HomeTowne staff: talk to the pest control person you're dealing with and make sure they are using a mixture of Alpine WSG and Gentrol if they aren't already. To the guests wanting to stay here, maybe consider bringing your own Alpine/Gentrol mixture. It's pet and child friendly, mostly odorless, and is extremely effective at eliminating roaches, as well as making them sterile to prevent them from breeding further.
Second major complaint is the lack of room service. There just... Isn't any? Despite a magnet on the fridge in the room clearly stating daily trash pick up, no one ever comes by. Furthermore, you actually have to bring your bedsheets down to them yourself, AND go pick them back up yourself. You also have to go ask them for more toilet paper yourself. I'm not so entitled to be THAT burdened by the idea of doing any of that I just thought that was one of the bare minimum things of hotel service. I'm just shocked that there was absolutely zero room service. Again, despite advertising otherwise.
Third major thing was that weeks before we got here, we upgraded our room to queen size beds, but when we got here, we were told they don't have any and didn't really do anything about it. We had to share two full size beds between four people.
Finally some minor, yet still bothersome, frustrating, or inconvenient issues we all had were:
The room smelled. Best described as a bag of onions. Bed and sheets started to smell pretty bad within a couple days too. My partner has a sensitive nose and it was nauseating her just lying in bed. We suspect it's because there's no ventilation in these rooms at all.
The HDMI inputs on the TV were like... Removed?? They were just straight up gone. The holes were there and labeled but they were just empty holes. You could see the tv circuitry through them. We brought our Nintendo Switches but couldn't connect them to the tv as a result.
Of the two wall lamps between the beds, only one of them had a light bulb and its lamp shade was also broken like it had been violently punched.
Another thing I thought was bare minimum hospitality was the room coming with a coffee pot (and a safe for that matter). We were kind of surprised to discover our room did not come with one and that the hotel does not provide one. We had to buy our own.
Aside from the possibility of our clothes getting infested by the roaches, we didn't unpack our clothes into the provided dressers because they looked weathered and dirty. Not a big deal to us to dig through our luggage but could be annoying for some people.
Neighbors were noisy, especially upstairs and the kids. I was on the second floor and had kids running back and forth on the walkway dribbling basketballs and screaming. Sometimes all the way into 8 or 9 at night.
After it's all said and done I guess it really just boils down to a "you get what you pay for" situation. 2-star hotel with roaches and no room service is gonna run you about $50-$60 a night depending on where you book. Just put back a little extra for somewhere better honestly.
One positive thing I can say about this place is at least there were no bed bugs. š¤·
Also the room comes with a kitchenette with a stove, but unsurprisingly no kitchenware to effectively make use of the stove, so pack your own pots and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy company booked 10 rooms in Home Towne Studios Hotel for 6 weeks paying per week. When my workers arrived, the hotel was very dirty and trash was everywhere. We called the hotel and informed them our people were unhappy and we would be making other arraignments. My workers left after the 3rd night and the hotel said because they did not have 24 hours notice, they would be charging the 4th night. We agreed even though that was not the case, and our people moved to another hotel. However the hotel charged my credit card for 7 nights. They overcharged my account more than $2,000. When my logistics director called them , the regional manager Hector Quesada asked us to wait 48 hours and they would refund the money back to my card. After 48 hours and no refund , my logistics director called and inquired and again was asked to extend for another 48 hours. That phone call was on Thursday. On Wednesday of the following week the money still wasn't posted. So, I called him and introduced myself as the owner. I asked him why the money was still not refunded after giving them 48 hours twice, I told him I am going to dispute the charges with my credit card company. ||||This man became so aggressive and started to yell at me, he kept asking who I was with very rude tone, he told me I need to apologies to him for threats that I am going to dispute these charges. He told me I needed to talk to my boss, even though obviously the logistics director works for me, I again explained that I was the owner. Obviously he didn't believe me. So he call my logistics department and asked them, who is that angry women. Ooops that women is the company owner. He stated that if we disputed the charge than he would do the same, even though we were only asking for what he stated he would do. After speaking with the logistics dept. he called back twice, hopefully to apologize since he found out I was actually the owner. This hotel and this manager are most unprofessional and rude people I have dealt with and I warn you so that you do not make the same mistake, just stay somewhere else and save yourself the...
