Updated review: Kyle, the manager, texted me first thing the next day and apologized for my experience. He offered to comp me another pound of crawfish if I could make it back that way; it worked out because I had to go retrieve the kids. I asked for Dynamite spice this time, and it kicked up the flavor and taste. Kyle explained that because it's the start of the crawfish season, the crawfish are small, and they have no control over the batches, but that later batches will be bigger. To ensure my satisfaction, the cooks hand picked some larger crawfish; it was definitely appreciated as I actually enjoyed this batch (especially with the dynamite). More than anything, the customer service is top notch. I'd give the crawfish 4 stars, Kyle and team 5 stars all day long, atmosphere 3; overall, I'd say the Mesquite location is a 4. Previous Review: Ratings got me again!!!! As of the time I ordered my meal and left this review, this establishment has a rating of 4.8.
It's crawfish season, and I've been craving me some mud bugs! I was excited to see a place near my mom's with such a great rating. I placed the online order (1 order of crawfish in garlic butter and medium spice, 1 snow crab cluster same sauce, Cajun fries, and a purplios ube milk tea with boba and lychee). The seasoning and flavor was okay.....not bad enough to complain about or good enough to leave a positive review for either; I've had worse from a flavor/seasoning perspective.
However, these are the smallest batch of crawfish I've ever had; that's saying something because I've not eaten at the Boiling Crab in over 12 years because my last two dine in visits, I felt as if they were giving all the non-Asian diners small crawfish and all the Asian diners that came before and after my group were getting large crawfish. For this meal, the value just isn't there. Not only were they overpriced, but they simply weren't worth the effort I had to exert to peel and eat them. When it comes to crawfish, I consume everything but the exoskeleton, eyes, and whiskers; there wasn't enough anything anywhere to feel satiated. I'm still craving crawfish after wasting $30 on these.
I believe in second chances, but there are other places near me that are much better. I'd go back to H.E.B. (poorly seasoned but fresh and sizable) before I try this place again. My wife enjoyed her Snow Crab, but wishes she had gotten the Lychee we were charged for in her boba; she has a Google account and can leave her own review. As for me, a rating of 2 is being very generous!!
See the photos attached. There are 3 crawfish on the lid for the condiment cup; I could have gotten a fourth on there if I wanted to be funny, just laid it across the back. I hope you literally get...
Read moreI placed an order via Uber because I read the reviews, had a taste for some catfish and decided to try them out. Also, Uber was offering 30% off of the bill. So, I couldn't pass that up.
When I try out a new place, I order 3-4 entrees in order to get a feel for the food. I ordered a order of lemon pepper wings, the catfish dinner, crispy chicken fried rice and popcorn shrimp dinner.
Ok, the misses. The popcorn shrimp was a disappointment because the value was poor. You get maybe 10 or so popcorn shrimp, some fries and two small hard hushpuppies. For the price of $10.50, I was expecting a bit more. Now, don't get me wrong, the shrimp had a nice coating and taste. The fries were hard? They weren't cold and tasted fine but were hard. I probably wouldn't get this again. It is probably the perfect portion for a child.
The lemon pepper wings did not lack in season, in fact had a tad bit too much. They were fresh and a nice size. I would get again but give them special instructions to season lightly.
The catfish dinner also left me a bit perplexed due to the creative butchering of the fish. What appears to be a 3 piece dinner, was actually one whole filet and a whole filet cut into 2 pieces. If you are going to advertise something as 2 or 3 piece, I expect just that, not one filet cut up to give the appearance of additional pieces. For $16,50, I expected 3 whole filets, period. The fish did have a nice flavor and was served again with those fries that I didn't care for.
The real winner was the crispy chicken fried rice. Now, when I opened the container I was concerned because the rice looked dry. However, when I tasted it, it was delicious. It is not greasy and had a nice flavor, a bit different than what I'm use to with fried rice. You get several cut up crispy chicken pieces on top that were crunchy and delicious. For $16.00, this to me was the best value...
Read moreWe drove by there a couple times. We said we were going to try it and we did. We were lured there by the online menu of so many tempting dishes, Jumbo, oysters, Cajun food only to find a very stripped down version of the menu. We were disappointed but tried The Pew Pew bag with snow crab , shrimp and skimpy vegetables. I was really sorry to see that snow crab is so thin that after all the work to try to crack it open you get more meat in a couple of pieces of shrimp. Never again I won't be Fooled Again. The shrimp was on point though, tasty and large sized. The egg rolls were those little small ones nothing special. I guess the place is all right if you like that kind of thing. I would like to find the other place that has the full menu. I see now why they call this Express. I would say that we probably wouldn't go back again but the next day we call them to see if they had pho and they did. So we went picked up two orders to try because that is one of our favorites. It wasn't as good as some of the other places I have reviewed. A little skimpier on the noodles then I like. The beef seem like it was tough and the meatballs had no flavor. Broth was okay but not hearty like some other favorite restaurants. However at the end of the day we're glad to find a place we can get pho because we're trying to eat healthier. I don't know how they will do there because there seems to be crab places popping up everywhere. I I think they will have to expand their offerings if they...
