This place is a joke. If you're looking for nothing more than a dirty bed to rest your head while you fall asleep to the sweet smells of mold and cigarettes, then you've struck gold. But for anyone else with a sliver of decency, stay far away from this dump. When I booked this property, I was optimistic. I've never booked a motel before, but bookings were limited in the area we wanted, so Up Midtown was one of my only choices. The photos online with Expedia led me to believe that we'd have a decent experience as far as room design & cleanliness. Boy was I wrong. Parking was almost non existent, and a massive tractor trailer was blocking the parking lot by being parked on the street/curb. When we walked in to the room, we knew instantly we were not going to be staying. It smelled of 100 cigarettes. Smoke coated the walls and you could see the discoloration from the original paint color. The appliances in the room were covered in dirt and looked like they hadn't been cleaned in ages. The floors were covered with dirt. Burn holes in the linen on the beds. Black smudging near the electrical switches (god knows what that was about). No one in our party was remotely close to being ok with feeling comfortable or staying the night, let alone two. $400 for two nights.... I wouldn't have payed more than $50 total. The photos online show a clean, well kept, well decorated room interior. What we got was far from it. Front desk informed me that my refund would be handled through Expedia. Well, Expedia notified me that "after multiple attempts to reach the property manager, we regret to inform you that they (the property manager) will not authorize a refund." Seriously? So its the hotel's decision on whether or not to refund and not the third-party I booked with, like the front desk assured me? $400 charge and we were on the property less than 10 minutes before deciding to get as far away as possible... 1 star is too much for this place. Do yourself the favor and spend the extra $30 a night to stay literally anywhere else...
Read moreWe absolutely love staying here—this is our third year coming for Art Basel! The price is incredibly affordable, and the location couldn’t be better.
Having a Target and Trader Joe’s nearby is super convenient for stocking up on snacks and essentials to keep in the fridge. If you’re in the mood to eat out, there are plenty of great restaurants within walking distance. One of our favorite things about this place is how close it is to Wynwood—we enjoy walking over there to explore the Art Fairs.
I’ve read other reviews mentioning issues with getting deposits back, but in all three years we’ve stayed here, we’ve never had a single problem. Our deposit has always been refunded within two days, so I’m not sure what issues other guests may have experienced.
The only downside we’ve noticed is that the shower curtains are too short for the walk-in showers. Each year, we end up requesting extra towels from the front desk because water tends to spill onto the bathroom floor.
Aside from that minor inconvenience, this place is a fantastic value for the money. Of course, there will always be people who nitpick or find something to complain about, but I’m here to say that Up Midtown is a great choice. I would definitely recommend it and look forward to...
Read moreMy experience here has been awful. I live in Houston TX, my business partner and I flew into Miami today on a business trip. We arrived at the hotel during late hours due to business meeting starting at 1:30 and check in not until 3:00 p.m. so we have to handle business first and come to the hotel after. Upon arriving to the we were told which room was available, I was so tired from the flight in and not being able to check into the hotel prior. All I wanted to do was take a hot shower, unfortunately there was no hot water. We asked for help the guy who checked the Zen came into the room and told us that the water was perfect as I'm feeling the water ice cold. I then told him we would like a different room adding that the beds were dirty and disgusting, not to mention the TV don't either. It is now 2:00 a.m. in the morning we are two black women in a hotel room with the door open while we wait for help. We were told that we can cancel our reservation and go find somewhere else again it is 2:00 a.m. and we have brought all our belongings into this room, we have no form of transportation, and no idea where else to go, cancellation fee will not be paid right away. This really sucks I wish I would NOT have booked this...
