My siblings and I decided to have an anniversary celebration for our parents but at the time we had not chosen a venue. Someone suggested we visit the Sparrow Grove Manor. When I called I was delighted to speak to Kathy Behtz who is a co-owner and business partner with Kristen Sckmitke. By the end of our tour we knew instantly we had found the perfect venue. We loved that the Manor had a Southern Charm with a twist of modern flair, a large area in the back of the home with exquisite landscaping and plenty of room for outdoor entertaining( also a great location for an outdoor wedding), suites upstairs for out of town family to stay the night and walk to historic downtown Monroe, and to top it all off with location, location, location. The Manor and the outdoor space met and exceeded all of our wants and needs.|Kathy asked several questions specific as to our thoughts, wants and wishes for the celebration. She made sure she had the exact information she needed to turn our vision into reality. Due to our delay in planning along with our limited experience in hosting a larger gathering Kathy and Kristen stepped up and put their expertise in planning and hospitality into action. We catered the reception ourselves but we were missing the “wow” factor as our guests entered the foyer, that is other than the fabulous entrance and decor of the Sparrow Grove Manor, of course. Kathy knew just what we needed and allowed us to pay them to prepare a grazing table for the open front dining room. It was such a fabulous display so much so that many of our guests asked who did the catering. They also decorated the inside and outside of the Manor where we would be celebrating with beautiful flowers and decor that complimented the setting.|My parents were in awe as they entered the entrance of the Manor to such beauty with many friends and family members in attendance to greet them on their special day. They had an incredible time visiting with guests, eating, exploring the home and dancing amongst friends and family in the moonlit sky all while relishing in the many toasts given in honor of them. As the dancing stopped, the celebration came to a close and the last guest had left our parents told us “thank you” for hosting their anniversary celebration at such “a” beautiful and memorable “place”. They also thanked us for allowing them the opportunity “to make” many “special” and endearing “memories “ with great friends and family while celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary. They said they would cherish these memories for a lifetime, thus, the name , A Place to Make Memories”, came into being. |It took nine months for me to write this review because I knew once I started writing about their spectacular day I would have a difficult time bringing it to an end. My siblings and I love our parents in such a special way that we are way beyond thankful to God for allowing us to honor our parents at a place and time they will...
Read moreSparrow Grove Manor is located in beautiful downtown Monroe, Georgia. It is an easy walk from our church, First Baptist Church Monroe, where the wedding took place. There is plenty of parking in the back of the Manor. The owners went out of their way to make my son and my new daughter-in-law's reception beautiful and meaningful. Everything they did was done well. The inside of the former home is gorgeous. There is a room that is large enough for a small reception, or in our case, refreshments before the meal. There are several rooms downstairs for people to gather in, as well as a couple of porches. There are either three or four stories to the house. I lost count. There were a lot of steps! Lol! The top floor is where the bride gets ready. I was surprisingly impressed with this room. It had a wall of mirrors, with lights for each mirror, and outlets along the wall. There is a separate bathroom and bedroom attached. There is a sitting area , a nice oval mirror for seeing your complete outfit, a dress rack, and a counter for putting extra things on. There was plenty of room for all of us. Getting ready and putting on our makeup beside each other made the experience more fun. There is a large paned window that looks out over the backyard, where there are various types of flowers and trees and well groomed landscape. A large cushioned bench is in front of the window. It would make for cute pictures. My granddaughters (for girls) loved it. Each floor has bedrooms that can be used for wedding guests to get ready in. Bathrooms are located along each floor also. There is a kitchen for caterers to use. In the back, there is a large concrete area that was perfect for the reception and dancing. It is equipped for setting up a sound board for a DJ if one is wanted. It was large enough for our estimated 150 people. Overall, this was a special and...
Read moreThe ownership, Kristen, exudes the Southern Hospitality that one would expect in such a stately property. The rooms, all with private bath, are modern and beautifully appointed. The grounds are beautifully manicured and tidy. Housekeeping maintains this property and all four of it's rooms/suites in pristine condition. You will not find cleaner accommodations anywhere. Once you sleep on one of their mattresses, you will not want to leave without it. Comfort is an understatement. Coffee and tea stations are in each room and are much appreciated. In the main area, there is a room where complimentary drinks, yogurt, snacks, coffee and tea stations are all displayed and available for guests throughout their stay. They are stocked daily. Staff is not on site, but Kristen is a phone call away and responds quickly if needed. Because staff is not on site, staying here is more private, like the comfort of home, only grander. If you crave comfort and quiet in elegant surroundings, this is your place. Restaurants and shops are close to the property so you won't have to venture far. Highly, Highly Recommend...
