David’s Tavern and Grill — Restaurant in Monroe

This is my second and last time coming here. The first time was a few months ago while visiting family. It was great. The food and service was by far the best in Monroe. Just came back the other day, it was absolutely dead inside but we still waited over an hour for our food, which was wrong and undercooked. No apology from anyone other than our server who looked embarrassed to be working there. I asked what was going on since the last time I came and I was told that they changed management. Very disappointed. The people I met last time that were the new owners(or managers) were on it. They were talking to guests, hustling around. Now it's like a ghost town. New owner or manager was there and they were told our food was messed up but she avoided us. Plus, they have changed the menu and hours....whack. They are now not open for brunch or breakfast on weekends and half the stuff on their menu they don't even have anymore. Should have known by the lack of customers that it wouldn't be good. My wife and I tried this place for the first time last night for dinner. We ordered the salmon and caprese grilled cheese sandwich, along with a few drinks and dessert. Overall the food and service were really good. Especially the salmon and its side potatoes and vegetables, delicious. Though rounding up to five stars is still appropriate, I could take off a quarter or half star for the sandwich. It comes with provolone and spinach instead of mozzarella and sweet basil. Maybe it’s their take, but it’s a bit lacking. The cheese was thin and not well melted, almost like a microwave slight melt where it just glistens. A crusty bread, like ciabatta, would do wonders too. So the value wasn’t really there on the sandwich. Also the atmosphere was nice and fun, but dimming the lights just slightly when it gets dark outside would go along way to help the tavern vibe. Overall a good spot that...

Was told 20 min wait, which is no big deal for Friday night in Monroe. Went to the bar, service was fast at the bar. Waited our 20 min and were seated. Sat at our seat across from the hostess for 25 minutes without ever seeing a server. The people who sat down after us had placed their order, but yet no server in sight for us. After sitting for 30 min (it was timed) we realized we were seated in no man’s land, we contacted the hostess about our server. She polity replied “I’ll find one”. Watching her speak will all the waitresses, all shaking their heads, she never returned. After 5 more min and no one showing up we turned in our menus and left. They got a beer and an ol fashion out of us and that’s all they will be getting from us. Maybe the 20 minute wait should have been an omen when everywhere else was 1 1/2...
