A real winner has arrived in Monroe, and its superpower is amazing food, well-prepared dishes, and excellent customer service and efficiency from staff.
We finally visited the next installment of Local Republic fame ( For the uninitiated- Big Brother is Local Republic, Middle Brother is Strange Taco, both Lawrenceville) meet the "New Kid," LR Burger in the evolving streets of Monroe.
Atmosphere- the industrial, modern vibe of these restaurants always wow upon walking in. And the WOW is the delicious smells that hit you as you walk in, which kicks up sight of decor. The greeting on the left hand wall simply says, EAT. I love the feel as this restaurant-like the original LR, now Strange Taco- was also converted from an old filling station. You walk in, queue up at the counter (it works at Strange Taco so keep the formula going), order from the paper menu which includes a mix of burgers, salads, shakes, & cocktails (check out the adult slushies). Draft beers on the wall next to the register. Order, pay, and if getting water/fountain drinks you will get your cups and receipt, and a table number. Find your seat, and settle in. The front room to the right is a little more echo and bounces sound. We stayed in the entrance room near register and found it to be quite quiet considering the concrete and metal in the dining room.
Food- winner. The variety on the menu is simple - many types of burgers, hot dogs, salads for the non-burger eater, kids menu, and beverages. For LR fans, there are quite a few old favorites including the Patrick Swayze, The Sink, and Mr. Jones. And plenty of good options like The Mother Clucker, 2 kinds of Vegetarian burgers, and a variety of Different ones. We went for familiar, Mary Had a Little Lamb and the Shrimp and Grits. We split an order of natural cut fries, and ordered up one cocktail and a vanilla shake. The choices were perfect. The lamb burger included thin ground lamb patties with pickled onions and tzatziki sauce. The Shrimp and Grits had a true shrimp patty made out of shrimp with a fried grit cake and smothered in the best andouille roux I have tasted. We both agreed this one was worth it- and I would order it again! The shake was lovely at 3.50 and the cocktail reasonable at 8. The food won me over. EVERYTHING was cooked perfectly and all delivered fast and fresh. We only sat for a few minutes before all was delivered to the table.
Service- on point. This can sometimes go either way but from cashier, servers, managers, and crew, everyone was smiling and happy to be there. Customer service won here.
Overall for a new restaurant just opened in the last few weeks, food and service are excelling and Monroe is being treated to value and faster food. Well...
Read moreThey get 1 star because the service was good. Staff were polite and the food came without much of a wait. It is TOO EXPENSIVE. $63 for 4 burgers, fries, and drinks. $40 bucks would have been good maybe $50 if the food was out of this world, but $63 is insane for a normal family dinner.
The MENU is LIMITED. I understand not having a 5 page menu in a burger joint, but at least have the meat options, cheese options, and toppings listed. Not 1 person in our party wanted a burger listed on their menu except me and it was difficult searching other burgers for things they may or may not have. So we had a hard time to order so actually sat down and came back up to the line to do it once we got it sorted. Burgers should not be that DIFFICULT to order.
NOT KID-FRIENDLY Oh and did I see cuss words on the menu and I have kids. Why? My 10 year-old son was like "Mom, they are using cuss words on one of the burgers. I am not getting that! Are you really going to spend your money here if they are cussing? (He knows me. BUT my fiance was starving and we were all sitting trying to figure things out and he said we are staying and eating!!!!!" I wasn't pleased that alcohol was featured so prominently either.
The fries were just horrible. They were dark, probably due to the oil being not good because they tasted a bit offish as well. They were definitely overcooked and greasy. So they smelled bad, looked bad, and tasted bad. The fry sauce, however, was awesome.
The burgers, I mean all 4 double stacked, were DRY. Menu says all will be cooked medium well unless otherwise stated. Maybe they don't know what medium well is... IDK but ALL THE BURGERS were OVERCOOKED, THIN, SMALL, and DRY AS A BONE. The buns were nice but small. Who are they trying to feed? Not 2 tweens and a grown man.
This was my 2nd visit and I tried it again because I rarely go some place once and discount it. The first time it tasted nasty but I didn't pay. This time my fiance paid and my family left hungry and grumpy.
We will not be going back to LR Burger in Monroe. We recommend that you don't waste your time or money either. Sorry LR but y'all need to step it up big time if you want to stay...
Read moreThis restaurant has been on my radar for a while now, and I decided to order take out from LR Burger yesterday. Upon arrival, I saw there were a few family types and a couple dining on the patio outside. Visually, the restaurant appeared clean and the nice lady taking my order was pleasant and courteous. My to-go order was at 12:45 p.m. for a cheeseburger, with provolone, bacon, lettuce, tomato, onions with french fries and a soda combo meal for a total of $13.88.
I could see how this place can fit a niche in Monroe for high-quality burgers and therefore justify premium pricing, but this burger patty itself was an inedible. This is because it was not just merely a small portion of having being over-salted to taste, but it was a complete over-saturation of sodium beyond healthy human consumption. I have worked in the restaurant industry and can appreciate how a cook may have forgotten they previously apply salt to a given item being cooked, but this was far more than double (or even quadruple) the amount of salt which may be considered heavily salted. It was honestly and truly, as I previously mentioned, salted the to the point of truly being beyond safe human consumption.
The way I've always been in the past (including my time providing reviews through this Google account), is to remain mute for any given restaurant which I'm displeased, but yet merely and simply discontinue business my business there. Over the past decade, I think there's only been two or three restaurants that fit this example. LR Burger warrants such a scathing review public review in this case because it is seems to be beyond a simple mistake.
A little bit of trivia for you, in ancient China, it was common to commit suicide by eating a pound of salt. So much salt is definitely not palatable and I hope management looks into...
