If You Loved the Blackbird Hotel, Wait Till You See Her Sister: The Garden District Hotel #neworleans #hiddengems #frenchquarter #gems #dark #hotel #hotelvibes #blackbird #gardendistrict #pool If you loved the moody, mysterious vibe of the Blackbird Hotel, let us introduce you to her sister—the Garden District Hotel. Tucked away on St. Charles Avenue in the heart of the historic Garden District, this boutique hotel blends Southern charm with dark, romantic elegance. Designed by the same team behind the Blackbird, this property carries a similar aesthetic—think vintage character, dramatic details, and cozy, curated spaces—but with a slightly softer, more serene twist. Inside, you’ll find plush Revival New York bedding, Samsung Smart TVs, and sleek bathrooms stocked with Sodashi luxury toiletries. But what really sets this spot apart is what’s coming soon: a heated saltwater pool and the first-ever swim-up bar in New Orleans. It’s not open yet, but it’s already becoming a hot topic among locals and travelers alike. I stopped by to check it out before the rest of y’all catch on, because that’s what I do. Follow me for more hidden gems, local secrets, and cool spots you won’t find on the usual travel guides.

This is literally the coolest microwedding gem in the Garden District of New Orleans. 😍 The staff was amazing, the venue was stunning, and the couple was magical. 10/10 would recommend! đŸ™ŒđŸŸ #weddingday #weddingtiktok #neworleanswedding #weddingofficiant #elopementideas

Wow is all I can say. I can’t wait to come back after everything is finished!

The pool was relaxing, the water was cold and perfect. Once the swim up bar and kitchen are open this place is going to be somewhere you’ll never want to leave. Perfect for a staycation!!!

The lobby bar is wonderful - the vibe is classy, classic, and welcoming. The decor is beautiful and thoughtful. There are electrical outlets AND drunk octopi at the bar seats and the seats are COMFORTABLE AF. the ambiance is top notch - chefs kiss

The bed was so comfortable! We stayed in the loft king balcony and the balcony was nice to sit on at night and listen to the sounds of the neighborhood. There’s a thin spiral staircase up to a sofa and tv which would be great for a third traveler. The mini bar was impressive and for the bougie cocktail fanatic they even have cocktail garnishments to buy and add to your in room drinks. There was even a $400 bottle of Dom which had us giggling out loud, and wondering WHO would buy that 😂😂😂 (not us!!) and we tipped our hats to whomever is the first to do so đŸŸđŸ„‚

I literally have no real complaints about this place, though. My only issues with our room were so minor I hate to mention but do only to warn you to prepare. These are both a “me” problem, but it might help someone else to be aware of:

  1. the handrail for the spiral staircase was mere inches from the bed and it was unforgiving, sharp metal that HURT when I bumped it at night! 😂 I wrapped a towel around it after that. I wouldn’t want a smaller bed in the room so maybe something soft over the rail would be in order. Us big booty folks have to look out for each other. 2) the temperature display on the mini fridge was SO BRIGHT - it illuminated the whole room. It probably could have kept me from bumping the handrail but I was shielding my eyes 😂 I put a dark cloth over it and that helped some but it was a lot of light - even more than came in through the slits in the blinds by the balcony. If light pollution in your room is an issue for you, bring a sleep mask!

The best part of it all were the people - Sharon and her thoughtfulness was a highlight. Our first night we ordered pizza and Sharon brought our pizza out to us by the pool! A manager brought us paper plates and napkins, too! Wow!! Just awesome. If you’re looking for a place where you can disconnect for a few days, this is it. Especially once the pool bar, kitchen, spa, and pickle ball courts (?!) are finished. Thank y’all for a much needed gorgeous two days. We will see you again real soon

PS this place doesn’t scream “kid friendly” to me, it’s more of a place for adults - if you’re considering traveling with small children this isn’t really that kind of vibe at all. The pool is all four feet deep with hard edges and rockscape. It’s perfect for a romantic weekend getaway, solo travelers, friends trip, bachelor/ette...

The pool and its staff are extremely unhelpful and rather rude. I witnessed unattended children and staff would not address the issue. Free daycare for one mother who looked like she could care less if her child was in the arms of any stranger the child chose, with little supervision from the mother. No flotation device or life vest. Child was under 3 and could not swim well. When this was brought to staff attention, I quote “It’s not my problem’” If a child dies or is abducted, it would quickly be the hotels problem. The pool rules clearly state children must be accompanied by an adult at all times of under a certain age. I did not come to a pool, spend money just to watch and be hanged on by a child that isn’t mine. Second issue is over serving. I also witnessed a woman passed out on the bathroom floor of the pool area and staff was not concerned or offered any water, food, coffee, Uber, nothing to assist in the situation. The staff is younger and maybe they need life experience. However, they need additional training in dealing with the public and potential issues that happen when dealing with the public. The waitstaff do not offer any condiments when food is served and bartenders do not stock those items for guest. When I asked the wait staff, they were rude and look you up and down while walking off without any verbal acknowledgment. Two different pool guys did this to me on two separate occasions/visits and another guest commented the same things happening to them. After the rude walk off and no acknowledgment, I went to the bartender to ask for these things and he said I had to ask waitstaff, as he does not carry those behind the bar. Also, two bartenders for a busy shift is inadequate for the size of the location. I have managed multiple places, if staff acted in this way, they would be quickly removed from my staff roster. Better management is needed. Higher quality staff is...

The hotel itself was beautiful, but that’s about it. I wasn’t staying here, but I did book a yoga class that advertised access to the pool after the class & we could buy a pool pass at 11:00 if we wanted to stay longer. After yoga I got in the pool & was told I needed a pass & they don’t offer that anymore. My thing is , obviously we’re all here because it’s a part of what we were offered we didn’t just collectively decide to come to your pool without a pass. If it was offered to me allow me to get the hour that I technically paid for by way of booking with the yoga instructor & handle any discrepancies with her directly. The hotel staff was SO rude about it!!! I planned on buying a drink & food at 11 when the bar opened & yes, even a pool pass if I wanted to stay longer. I had no issue with getting the pass after the hour, but they were so adamant about having a pool pass as if I wasn’t planning on spending money there or as if I didn’t already spend money to be there. Pool pass or not, the person you allowed to host this event offered it so your issue is not with me. One of the guys who worked there told one of the ladies “I’m not doing this today” & walked off whenever she tried to explain what was happening. Very dismissive! One of the workers followed me through the hotel after I changed my bathing suite saying I needed to exit out the way I came in even though I was literally On my way out of the door already. So nasty & rude. It was a miscommunication clearly but you don’t handle people that way regardless if I was a guest or not I planned to be & I planned on coming back but never again!! & the “swim up bar” they advertise , it...
