Spa Isbell — Local services in New Orleans

I chose this salon for their stellar reviews and while I didn’t have the experience I thought I would the way they handled the problem today is earning them 5 stars.

I live almost 2 hours away from New Orleans but I was looking for a couples massage and no one near me was offering them. Let me go further in saying for me a couples massage is two beds side by side in one room with 2 massage therapists working at the same time. Apparently other people think it’s 2 different rooms at the same time which to me is just 2 massages but now that is clear! I was happy to discover 3 salons in New Orleans could accommodate us.

I chose this one bc they had a great track record and the salon is charming and has that special touch of New Orleans in the old mansion converted to salon.

While I did have to call and speak to the owner on my own, once I told her how unhappy I was to have arrived and discovered that the couples massages were actually just 2 massages in adjoining rooms she went out of her way to make amends.

The time we drive out and back was invaluable to me and I could have stayed in town for two massages but both massage therapists were EXCELLENT! I have lower back issues and he has neck and shoulder issues and this was his first massage but luckily he has now been converted and plans to get them regularly.

I got three services. Facial, massage, and manicure. The facial and the massage were fine. I have no complaints about the esthetician or the masseuse. (Though, during my massage I could hear people on the balcony gossiping about one thing or another, which was super annoying.) The manicurist was obviously frustrated by the fact that I had gels on my nails, and also wanted a gel manicure. She complained about having to remove my gel, and was gossiping about other small businesses in the city. She actually outright lied about another nail spa in town, saying how the work they did damaged people's nails. When in reality, I'm lucky I even have any nails left to talk about thanks to this lady!! She was totally wrong about that other business, which I know because I happened to have been a customer there for at least 7 years now. I told her she was wrong about their technique for removing gels. She then proceeded to use an emery board to shave down the surface of my nails, all while hardly shaping my nails at all (the next day, I shaped them myself). She shaved down the surface of my nails so thin that when I put my hands into the UV light, they felt like they were burning. My nails have never been this thin and flimsy before, and I am actually in pain doing normal things now, such as getting items out of my pockets, doing my office work, and fussing with my purse. i debated writing a review because I often like to chalk up negative experiences with someone having a bad day ( and everyone has bad days). My experience was not just terrible, it was disgusting. When I saw the reviews posted on yelp I had high hopes that I would be able to get a hair style that I was looking for. Boy was I wrong. First they over booked the lady I was seeing, and she had to mention it to me maybe 6 times, which in turn due to my tight time line I ended up blow drying my own hair. I was in the chair and she started to finally curl my hair, she was not only unfriendly when I tried to make conversation she was unresponsive and damn rude. When she did speak I felt uncomfortable with her constant back handed comments. She complained my hair was to fine and difficult to work with, (I actually have thick hair), and like why didn't' you suggest something that would work on my hair instead of making me feel bad. Knowing i was so upset she maybe sprayed me in the face and body with hairspray 17 times with no apologies, it was clear she wasn't trying to spray my hair!
