We stayed for two nights at the Manhattan Club and very much enjoyed our time. We booked this room through Bluegreen, but there seemed to be other owners though RCI or other businesses in this building. Our room said executive suite and when we checked in they called it a junior executive suite. We corrected them at check in and they just said yes, it is the same thing. I don't know if is or is not. The description of the room pretty much matched what we got. The bed was nice and comfortable. The room included a small sink, dishwasher, and under the counter refrigerator. along with a microwave and some dishes. I should have counted how many plates and silverware settings it had but my memory is that it had 4 plates, bowls etc. The dishwasher was really nice because we did make our own breakfast and lunches in the room to save a little money. For dinner we went to a souvlaki grill that was just down the street. I highly recommend it. It was really good food. They asked if we had a reservation because they were packed. Literally you are sitting RIGHT next to the person at the next party. We did not have a reservation but they got us seated in about 15 minutes. One word about the pull out couch. It definitely will only fit ONE person. Luckily we didn't need it but thought we would pull it out for future reference. It is a single bed pull out. I don't really think even two kids could fit. Maybe if they really got along well and didn't roll around, but it was definitely only for one adult. The little sitting area was a little cramped with the TV over at the side, so watching TV would have been very uncomfortable. There was so much to see we didn't watch any TV, but if you were planning on a movie or something it would not have been very comfortable to watch TV at the side of the couch. The Manhattan Club is about a block from Central Park. We entered right at the end or beginning (not sure which one it is - I heard someone say it was the south end) of Central Park at 59th street. It was very close by. We had an amazing time walking all through Central Park, it is very diversified with lakes, boats, tennis, baseball, merry-go-rounds, play areas. I would highly recommend the "Ramble". It is just little paths going through trees with lots of birds. Our second day we walked to the MOMA which a couple of blocks away. Great experience. Then we walked a little further to St Peter's Cathedral. Check on the times they are closed with their church services before you go. We then walked to Grand Central Station and then over to Times Square. It was an amazing day. The Manhattan club has a pretty nice work out room and lounge on the 26th floor. They do offer a breakfast for about $22 per person in the lounge. We were OK with some cereal and milk in our room. The staff were friendly and helpful. We did valet park our car for $35 a day. You cannot get your car out unless you are going to pay again. We really did not need to get it out because the Manhattan club was very centrally located. There were subway...
Read moreI'm in a quandary about the number of stars, being the front desk was very nice as was maintenance.
I requested no housekeeping for the duration of my week long stay, twice, each time when housekeeping called to see when I would like housekeeping. I returned a short while ago and found housekeeping in my room. They stole 3 soda cans, 2 water bottles which I had plans for, took the plastic bowls I was using and took the plastic drinking glasses I was using and rearranged my very small kitchen space. The theory of towels on the rack will be used again is NOT understood by the non American speaking staff. I am in a timeshare room so expected no housekeeping but more importantly want no housekeeping. The housekeeping staff decides what is 'garbage' so hide whatever you might want to use again or it will be stolen. Yes stolen, as in you have not put it in the garbage so it is your property, which they have taken from your counter or table in your room and removed it, stole.
All eating utinsils in the room are plastic. Cheap plastic drinking glasses, cheap plastic coffee cups, cheap plastic eating utinsils, cheap plastic bowls, cheap plastic plates and some cheap plastic microwavable takeout containers. Oh, there was a bottle of dish soap to wash your cheap plastic kitchen ware.
There is an okay size refrigerator, coffeemaker, bar sink and microwave, and did I mention the cheap plastic eatingware, corkscrew and churchkey can opener combo. Nothing to open a plastic package. You can purchase the $8 Fiji water, which they will replenish because of the $45/day facility charge.
There is an approximately $45 per day facility charge, according to guest services part of which is to change the sheets on any sofa bed or cot that you might request at the tune of approximately $40 for your stay. There is a fitness center also included. A continental breakfast can be purchased for approximately $30, imagine your typical hotel continental breakfast, there is a bar that serves very limited food.
My room is on the 2nd floor. It looks out over the HVAC system. I cannot see the sky. There are buildings, I'm looking out my window essentially into the middle of the block, tall buildings on all three sides, my side the 4th is 26 floors.
The location of resort is the best. It's between Broadway and 7th Ave, on 56th St. If you're going to the theatre it's perfect.
Keep the Room Occupied sign on your door if you don't want housekeeping to bother you. Oh, when it falls off the lever handle of the door, oh well. I guess they'll decide because on the otherside it says you want housekeeping which because of the color ink and size of type I didn't see. Who doesn't want to broadcast to whomever is roaming the hallway that your room is empty?
Oh, and remember there are cameras everywhere according to the resort...
Read moreVery upset by our stay and the poor customer service on behalf of the Manhattan Club staff. From the moment we checked in, we were unhappy. Our car pulled up with several bags and large luggageâalthough there is a bell hop outside, he stood there and watched as we unloaded our own bags and brought them inside ourselves; he didnât even so much as offer a luggage cart. There was no one in line at the front desk, yet we stood there and waited for someone to greet, or even acknowledge us as we looked at 5 staff members behind the front desk all talking to each other and messing with one single computer. I can understand if they were experiencing computer issues, but did it require all 5 staff members and not one of them could even look up to at least say, âweâll be with you in just a minute.â
Finally, Vana gestured us forward. My husband handed her his ID to check in and she claimed she couldnât find our reservation asking us, âwell, when did you book the reservation?â When did we book the reservation??? Months agoâhow do we know and how will that help you find out reservation more so than just typing in our name, email, or phone number? She finally found out reservationâand handed us our keys without apologizing for the inconvenience.
Our room was fineâuntil we laid down to go to sleep. DO NOT ALLOW THEM TO PUT YOU IN ROOM 2223âor any room that ends in â23â for that matterâIt is right next to the elevators and all night long we could hear the elevators going up and down. Literally, the elevator shaft is 3 feet from the headboard of your bed and you can hear everything from the mechanisms of the elevator to people talking and coming in and out with their luggage. We did not sleep at all.
My husband went down around noon today to request another room. They obliged, but then downgraded us to a room that was smaller and did not have an updated bathroom like our original room. We went back down and declined the Room explaining we were not going to pay for a nice room but be downsized and downgraded. The front desk gave my husband another room keyâbefore we moved all our belongings for a third time, he went and looked at the roomâagain, it was smaller and did not have the upgrades that we had in our initial room near the elevators.
The last option they gave us was to completely check out, leave our bags with the bell desk, and wait 4 hours to see if they MIGHT have another room available tonight that was either better or of equal standard to room 2223. The hotel is sold out so we obviously arenât going to take the riskâso now we are stuck in a room where all we can hear are the elevators and every guest checking inâfar louder and noisier than the streets of New York outside our window!
We will not return to this hotel and I absolutely would not recommend...
