Let's dig in... •Host looks up gives eye contact looks back down at his device and paper work. I proceeded with a Greeting of "Hello, may I seat myself?", he then grimaces & states he must seat me at a table. I'm a literal party of one, I preferred the bar. The initial snubish interaction at the door had my🚩flag up. Members Only•There were 9 ppl to be exact that looked like me🚩, bc I counted: 1 tok-worker, 3 were in the whrighte company to be there, 3 were 55+, then me & the drawing of a melinated jazz player...made 9 in total. •I seated myself bc the host never moved to seat me, I waited, the bartender doesn't come to greet me or hand my a menu🚩....so I return to the host to ask for one and he tells the bar will provide one🚩. • I get back to my seat & asked the barkeep for the menu, which he doesn't hesitate to bring. Honestly his demeanor saved my whole experience. He was attentive to my order. He fixed me up with a yummy pineapple margarita. The food doesn't take long to come out & it looks fresh & pic perfect.• Here's where we run into a gigantic problem... when I notice my salad is a bit more shiner than it should be. So, I pluck the piece of metal out of my salad & examine it & call the bartender to explain that I don't believe that was part of what I ordered.🚩🚩The fries came out the deep fryer, the salad/cold cuts/cheese came out of cold bins or plastic bags like the bread. So, how did a crunched up piece of metal find it's way onto my plate in salad that had dressing, yet the metal itself was dry??•I get my new plate of food that I thoroughly inspect with each bite now, bc I can no longer trust that my health or life is of any concern to this 4.4 star establishment. After a major health crisis/life threatening injury was avoided, due to my own vigilance upon the inspection of an ill properly prepped/served dish.I must note the new sandwich I received after the metal was taken away, was much more larger in size than my previous. 🚩So was under serving me the normal portion size that I paid for the 1st time an over sight as well, along with the an unwanted piece of death metal?? I finished up my meal & gave the bar keep well over the 30% of $5 & change, bc he saved the day for me several times over in less than 60mins.• I proceed to buy a baked good bc baked goods give me life & this Orange Pie thingy was looking interestingly yummy. I get to the register & stated I would like to buy a slice of orange pie. The guy behind the counter literally grabs at my bag to see my receipt, bc he assumed I was try get a free baked good.🚩 I reiterated that I wanted to buy a slice, like I stated when I approached the counter. You could literally see the gears turning & click when he realized he didn't actually listen to me, he just went abt was treating me a certain way from the start. He apologized & got into job mode. We exchanged pleasantries, & this young man looked me in my eyes & asked if I needed anything else. I responded " Yes, my pie"🚩 1st he premeditated I was trying to steal a baked good, then proceeded to invaded my personal belongs to check my receipt. He straight stuck his hand into my take home bag to retrieve my receipt with out asking me, bc I placed it on the countertop momentarily while waiting. Gladly excepted my $$, treated me respectfully once he realized I wasn't to out to steal an over priced pie slice. Finally, not even give me the pie I paid for & was ready for me to go.🚩•In 2024, if you can't see past my melanin you shouldn't want/get my $$. How have we not surpassed this stereotypical mindset where places still act in this manner as a whole unit. They either trained or allowed to respond in that manner, period. I'm in the health field, hold a NYC Food Handlers Card, a member of R.O.C, & am certified in Culinary, in which hospitality is definitely a major part of 3 of those avenues. I never understand, why ppl act like $green$ comes in any other colors or that humans come in different treatable shades. I'd spend my $$ elsewhere. Be wary if you dine alone, it's "Members...
Read moreOur spontaneous dinner at Carnegie Diner turned out to be one of the most memorable experiences we’ve had as a group! We were a party of 32—yes, 32!—We came all the way from California to celebrating our children’s concert at Carnegie Hall. When we first arrived, we were understandably met with a bit of chaos. The manager seemed overwhelmed by our large group, and it took some time to find seating for everyone. I’ll admit, I was worried the night might turn into a disaster because of his reaction, and I even suggested we leave. But then, Ellie happened, a sweet and tiny ray of sunshine, completely turned our evening around. Her kindness and warmth were unmatched, and she handled our massive group with such grace and efficiency. She made us feel so welcome, and her recommendations were spot-on. I had the pastrami Reuben with sweet potato fries, and I can honestly say it was the best pastrami I’ve had in years—thank you, Ellie! My husband and the seven children i was in charge to supervise in our group with multiple allergies and dietary restrictions also had an incredible experience, thanks to her attentiveness and care.
The dinner experience was so magical that we even went back before closing to ensure the gratuity was included. After discussing it with my husband, we all agreed that Ellie deserved so much more for her incredible service, so we added an extra $50. But even that didn’t feel like enough. We were so impressed by her kindness, efficiency, and the way she made sure everyone was safe and happy. She truly made our experience unforgettable.
Unfortunately, when we stopped by again today before exploring the city, we asked for Ellie but she wasn’t there. We’ll be back in May for another concert at Carnegie Hall, and we’re already looking forward to seeing her again (and that amazing pastrami!). Ellie, if you’re reading this, I hope you know how valued and appreciated you are. Our entire group of 32 was blown away by your sweetness and professionalism. I hope Carnegie Diner knows how lucky they are to have you. You are valued, appreciated, and seen—not just by us, but by everyone whose lives you touch. Thank you for making our night so special. You deserve all the recognition...
