I had high hopes for this place to become my regular spot in Manhattan. As someone with 10 years of experience in the massage industry and owning my own studio, I understand the challenges of managing clients and communication.
I called the place to book a Thai massage and clearly communicated my needs, specifically asking for a therapist who is strong and experienced. Unfortunately, the therapist I wanted to go with was not available, so I went with the owner's recommendation.
During the massage, I undressed and laid under the sheets. The therapist began with low pressure on my feet and then moved to my back with more compressions. However, after 10 minutes, she attempted to stretch my scapula unsuccessfully and kept asking me if I was okay every 2 minutes.
Realizing that the Thai massage wasn't going as expected, with the therapist seemingly only doing light strokes on my back, I asked if we could switch to a Swedish massage instead. She obliged, and proceeded to rub cream on my back, but again, there was no pressure or proper muscle engagement. The strokes felt short and fast.
In an effort to be polite, I explained that I work with my hands and need more pressure on my hands and arms. While she did try to accommodate my request, there was a lack of technique and skill. After 15 minutes, I decided to end the massage and spoke with the owner. I politely expressed my disappointment, suggesting that they shouldn't advertise Thai massage if they are not proficient in the technique. The owner argued that they needed to assess my body before starting the stretching, which is a valid point, but the technique and pressure were simply not there.I was trying to give the therapist a tip for the time and the owner was rude and told me to take my...
Read moreI made an appointment here today, based on the great reviews. I requested a 1 hour foot massage. The lady on the phone was quick to tell me it was $135 an hour. Okay, fine, I agreed - felt a little pricey, but I was excited about the good reviews, and I really needed a foot rub.
When you arrive, their signage directing you to "leave a 20% tip" is very front-and-center. Fine, I thought.
But after about 10 minutes, I just asked the lady to stop. She was just rubbing lotion on my feet in a fast motion, with very little actual rubbing. And she was using some kind of wooden tool in a very fast motion that didn't feel good and wasn't relaxing at all.
I just said this isn't working for me. They wanted to charge me for half an hour, and I felt that was not appropriate. They didn't make me pay, and I left.
I'm really surprised by the good reviews for this place. I had a very bad experience for what would have been $170 for an hour for a foot rub with tip. Maybe it was a one-off experience, I don't know. But I definitely do not recommend this place. Felt like the woman I got had no actual experience...
Read moreOn a whim, I booked a last minute appointment with Nuch so that I could get some small relief for ongoing pain from recovering from a frozen shoulder and chronic back pain.
Instead, I have found my new favorite place to get a bonafide quality Thai massage in the City from a wonderfully warm person who really spent time to understand where I had pain and needed extra attention. I left with significantly less pain and less knots in my back than I can honestly even remember.
Both Pim and Nuch are really kind and professional - I am planning on bringing back my daughters and other family members who could use with a massage that is relaxing, wholesome, and healthy! Really great atmosphere and a good price.
I’m booking another appointment right now. Don’t hesitate - think of this as something you’re doing for...
