I stay in this hotel for 5-nights and had a decent experience. This hotel is also a dual-brand property together with SpringHill Suites. My review below:||1. Location: Honestly, it's perfectly located. Close to Metro station that can take you anywhere around New York. Close to the premise also has many shops and restaurants. CVS, McDonalds, and Starbucks just around the corner which very convenient. Walking around is also a pleasant since the neighborhood is pretty much a flower market, so you'll pass blooming plants and flowers whenever you walk outside. ||2. Lobby/Reception: The lobby and reception area is always... ALWAYS busy. I can't complain much because it's still holiday season. Checking-in took a bit of time because a lot of guests also had late-checkout so many of rooms were not ready. I decided to leave our luggaeg and explore the city then I came back later around 5-6pm but unfortunately the room was still not ready. Luckily Walter managed to fix the issue and he even upgraded me to a studio room with a ridiculously massive balcony. The other associates at the reception Amira also very helpful when I had to check-out and check-in again as I had back-to-back reservation, they even allowed me to stay in the same room. ||3. Room: The room itself, well, it's New York, so it's very small. However, as I have mentioned previously, the balcony is ridiculosly bigger than the room itself. I end up not using the balcony much because it's super cold, but this would be very useful during summer. Back to the room, it's small and I'm not a fan of the layout. However, it's comfy and clean. I struggled a bit where to place suitcases, but managed to do a bit of hack by using the a couple of chair as a luggage rack. The bathroom itself is small but surprisingly has enough space to put my stuff, the floating storage above the toilet is very helpful. The room has some sort of mini kitchen, but I can't imagine for cooking in a tight space. Room is quiet, but unfortunately since the corner room is close to the emergency stairs where a lot of people using it to go down for breakfast (as elevator is busy in the morning), the emergency door slams like every 5-10 minutes. The management could've done something with the emergency door. Housekeeping is not everyday, but the housekeeping team did a very good job each time they cleaned up the room. ||4. Other aspects: Like many other hotels that breakfast is included in the room rate, breakfast situation is chaotic as usual. Seating is limited to 15-20 minutes which is understandable, but unfortunately not every guests followed this. Food option is decent but could've tasted better (skip the coffee if you can!). You also able to bring the food upstairs and eat the room if the breakfast situation is too chaotic. Few days later, I've decided having breakfast somewhere else, there are some alternatives close to the hotels, even McDonalds have breakfast menu that doesn't cost much. ||Overall, despite a few downsides like the room layout, emergency door slams, and breakfast situation. I'd still consider to stay in this hotel because of the location and...
Read moreThe room was great. It surpassed our expectations. It was very clean, properly maintained. Confy mattress and pillows. Large TV in front of the bed. Very clean bathroom, with good quality towels and shower gel and shampoo. The kitchenette was also useful and had everything we needed for some quick meals. There was no sofa or desk though. Maybe it's available in other rooms. We didn't need it though.
The location is great. Several metro stations are close by. The street is very lively, full of plants and flower shops. It's a nice environment during the day when all the plants are exposed outdoors. The street can feel a bit dirty though at night, when the shops are closed, but nothing to be too worried about.
All the staff were incredibly professional, helpful, and friendly, from the front desk, to the ushers and team who managed the breakfast area. At the reception lobby you can also find a convenience area where you can buy beverages, snacks, and some medicine items. Coffee and tea are also available at anytime, and for free.
Breakfast is decent, there are several bagels and breads, eggs boiled and fried or omelets, bacon, potatoes, fruits, cereals, and individual packages of jams, cheese, and sauces. It could be improved if they also served some vegetables, like cucumbers and tomatoes. Otherwise it was very tasty and fresh to start the day. You'll read a lot of complaints here about bad breakfast, lack of food, waiting in line a long time. But that was not our experience. The staff always did an amazing job to manage the breakfast crowds. Yes, the area is kind of small for such a large hotel, but I also think you are not supposed to sit there for 1 hour. Breakfast is served 7h to 10h on weekends, and 6h30 to 10h Mon-Fri. Depending on when you go, you might have to wait in line until you are seated. But there was never a shortage of food, and we never waited more than 5min.
The elevators are large and very fast. The only downside is that during breakfast rush hour the waiting time is long. But stairs are also available to be used. I also read a lot of complaints about this, but most I think are overrated.
What could be improved: Only nit picking here as everything was very good. The room was a bit small, there was barely any space for 2 pieces of luggage. Also it could be improved by having some hooks to hang jackets by the door, and a separate holder for shoes.
We had no hot water for 2 or 3 days. Several rooms were affected. The staff promptly resolved it by allowing us to take a shower in another room. And there was some compensation on the final bill.
We stayed for 10 days, so we were able to experience the ups and downs throughout the week. Overall, we were very satisfied and would definitely return and...

We traveled over 30 hours from Australia and had booked a stay at TownePlace Suites by Marriott in Chelsea. Upon check-in, we went to our room, and within seconds of opening the door, we detected a strong, unpleasant odor—similar to vomit or something putrid—so we had to leave immediately. We returned to the reception, where we informed the staff member who had just given us the keys. They recognized the room and promptly offered to switch us to another. We moved to a different room, went out for dinner, and upon returning, discovered the air conditioning wasn't working.
Given that it was early July in the middle of summer with temperatures over 100 degrees, this was particularly problematic. We contacted maintenance, who came and "fixed" the AC, but by 2 a.m., we were still sweating through the night because the issue hadn't been resolved. The next morning, exhausted and frustrated, we asked for another room change—something I’ve never requested before, as we are easygoing travelers. This was also my 30th birthday, and we had been so excited for this trip, but our experience at Marriott Chelsea TownePlace Suites turned into a nightmare.
They agreed to move us again, acknowledging the ongoing issues with the air conditioning, however, the staff became rude. Later that day, we headed out, but upon returning, we discovered that our room door had been wedged open, which we knew we didn't do as we double checked it when we left! Our bags had been opened and our backpack had been moved to the other side of the room. We then noticed that the shower drain was clogged, and brown water was gurgling from it. We checked out early the next morning.
During checkout, I was understandably upset after two sleepless nights and staying in subpar conditions despite paying AUD $600 per night. While explaining our situation, a staff member named Frantz laughed at me and my husband, which I found extremely unprofessional. The woman behind the counter then covered his name badge, and I made sure to note his name to file a complaint.
Overall, our experience was extremely disappointing—horrific service, unprofessional staff, and a series of unresolved issues that took over a month of international calls to get our money refunded. Our stay at Marriott TownePlace Chelsea was truly disheartening. If you value your money, dignity, and memories, I strongly advise against staying here.
And Frantz, if you are reading this - enjoy being on minimum wage for the rest of your life (that is if you can manage to keep a...
