This review is for the non-VR escape room experience.
Things were going smoothly at first, but we eventually got stuck and asked for a hint. The game master just told us to “read the booklet,” which we had already done. Every hint after that was delayed, unhelpful, or something we had already tried. It was clear she wasn’t actually paying attention to our progress.
The in-room timer stopped working at some point, and we received no updates. Then a random man wandered into our room mid-game, which totally broke the immersion. Soon after, the front desk opened the door and told us our time was up. She didn’t even recognize the man who had walked in.
Afterwards, we waited around to ask for an explanation of what we missed (as most escape rooms do by default, without even having to ask). After 15+ minutes, the game master finally came out and that’s when things got really frustrating.
The game master was incredibly rude, dismissive, and flat-out disrespectful. We explained that we had found one key that didn’t open either of the two locks in the room. She just kept repeating, “There are two keys, two locks, and each key opens a lock” as if we were stupid. She dramatically waved her hands, saying things like “I don’t have time for this” and “I can’t be doing this right now”—in a completely empty place, mind you. Instead of listening, she kept cutting us off and repeating the same thing, without actually listening to us and answering our questions.
Eventually, she ran through a few parts of the solution we asked about, and based on everything she said, it genuinely seemed like the room hadn’t been set up properly. We had already done the things she was describing, and it still didn’t work.
This was easily one of the most poorly run escape room experiences I’ve had. The staff (especially the game master) clearly didn’t care, and the room felt half put together. Would not recommend the non-VR experience at all or the establishment given the behavior of...
Read moreWe arrived in a grumpy mood, I'll admit, because we passed two head shops and a pile of trash to get to this little store front business with tape on the floor to separate stations. But, okay, maybe the VR would overcome these poor first impressions. We had 3:00 pm reservations and showed up at 2:55 and there were 3 groups ahead of us in line. Staff got the first three groups set up, checked us in and told us to sit on the stairs because "everyone showed up at once." 45 minutes later, no one had acknowledged us so I went over and asked if we could get started on an empty ride. Oh, yeah, sure. Again, he says "everyone showed up at once." I asked if everyone who showed up had 3 pm reservations. He said yes. So, um, what did they expect?
My daughter and I first did the race car driving together. I thought we'd compete against each other but in the game we had no awareness of each other's presence. Game was meh.
Daughter then did roller coaster. Building was super hot and i was getting nauseous so i was not feeling adventurous. Daughter stood on a table and said she was surprised the table didn't move. Made the whole thing non-immersive for her. Then we did the hang gliding where we leaned against a strap. As with the race car driving, visuals were not realistic at all. It was like being inside a video game. And they don't come to natural conclusions, they just time out and crash.
Finally, we did the plank, which is one walk across an 8' plank - takes less than a minute. I saw that at the end the staff were pulling people off, into the abyss. I asked the staff member not to pull me off. He said, "I'll try." Huh? So I didn't trust him and I skipped it.
The two of us went through our 4 experiences in less than 30 minutes. I used a city pass and am sorry we chose this. Can't imagine dropping cash for...
