Feeling so embarrassed I ever put a client up in this hotel now that I have stayed there myself. This is the most overpriced, uncomfortable stay I had ever experienced in all my years of travel. Moxy says they are "doing things differently".... no, they are getting away with terrible rooms, poor service, and insane upcharges.
Starting off with my biggest issue: sacrificing functionality for aesthetics. A reasonable person can expect a few things when staying in a $700/night hotel room. First, I should be able to expect a place to store my clothing. Except at the Moxy, they "do things differently" by not having a wardrobe at all. I was attending a gala so had several long dresses with me. There was no where to store them. There is picture railing at waist height with little pegs to hang things on. But of course, I can't hang a long dress at that height. You can't even hang a SHORT dress at that height. So there simply was no solution for where to hang my clothing. When I asked the front desk, they basically shrugged and said sorry. There is also no place to put your suitcase. So it was just on the floor during my stay and I had to continue to haul it on the bed to be able to look through my clothes. How hard is it to include a suitcase stand in every room? Surely the "vibe" would not suffer TOO terribly.
Next, I assume the aesthetics is dictating this disaster of a bathroom. No shower curtain? No glass to block the water from getting everywhere? Am I supposed to just have a wet bathroom the entire trip? Gross. I did my absolute best to not spray water everywhere.. but you know what would be a better solution? Just having a shower curtain in the room. Theres already a curtain rod installed, so it would be so simple! Again, I asked the front desk for one.. they assured one would be brought up. It never arrived after being there for 3 days. .. actually this leads me to another point. If you all just had NORMAL clothes hangers.. I could have hung my long dresses off the already installed shower curtain rod. But of course... aesthetics would dictate the hangers have leather loops instead of hooks. Naturally!
And lastly and probably most importantly, there is a glass door leading to the bathroom. Okay whatever, thats weird.. but fine. I can deal. But if you are going to have floor to ceiling windows in the bathroom, then you need to install blackout curtains in there as well. I was woken up every morning at 5 am with the sun blasting in my face through the bathroom.
Ope, one last thing.. and this is really telling of how utterly stupid this design is. The "floor length mirror" is hung so low and is so short that you cant even see your own face. I'm not tall by any means and I couldn't even see half of my body. So dumb, I can't imagine thinking that was a good idea.
All this to say, whoever designed this hotel is a moron.. and probably a man. Theres no amount of "vibe" that will be worth sacrificing BASIC...

We stayed at the Moxy for a week and we will never again. We booked a deluxe double with a view. The view is nice if the neighbor is not looking in at you.
There is no hotel lobby. The staff was unfriendly from the minute we checked in. Checking us in was an inconvenience for them. The entrance inside to the elevators was dark, small and very not welcoming. When we went to our room the hallway was dirty with trash and debris. It looked like it hadn't been vacuumed in a while.
The room is extremely tiny with no ability to really move or sit anywhere besides the bed. The beds were very small. A full size bed is not large enough for two 6 feet tall adults so our feet dangled off the bed. The bathroom sink is slanted so my make up and hair dryer slip off. There is no shelf to put anything other than a toothbrush and toothpaste on. Hair brushes and all electronics slid off due to the tilt.
The destination fee was a rip off because they didn't have the amenities to support guests with coffee or drinks. It was a charge of an extra 30$ per day for nothing. You could use at the cafe if it was open with limited goods and poor quality.
The shower is for men and lacking a shower head for women. There was no exhaust fan in the bathroom so the room was filled with humidity and the bathroom constantly wet.
There is no closet or dresser for clothes. The minuscule night stand between the two double beds had a mound top not a flat top so if you try to charge your phone it falls off onto the floor! Ridiculous design for a table with phone chargers above it.
The room was so small we couldn't open our suitcases on the floor and had to put it on our bed. The room was so small that when the suitcases stand next to the wall you couldn't walk to the bathroom from the bed. There is no where to sit except the bed. They offer a folding table and weird stool that hangs on the wall. Which is useless because you cannot sit in the stool no can you sit at the table properly. Where it fits in the room is a wonder to me because it does not fit between the beds nor by the window or door making it impossible to work from the room.
The minute the neighbors showered the plumbing was so loud it sounded like they were in your room. Even in our own room the shower was extremely loud at times.
They offer housekeeping every other day, but on the day they had to clean they would consistently forget the bath mat and necessary towels. Then we would have to call which was a great inconvenience to them.
Overall the stay was awful! We will never stay here again. This is a Marriott property and I am incredibly disappointed as a long term...
ย ย ย Read moreI don't know what it is but all the girls working at the front desk could barely open their mouths to speak to us. They were all unfriendly and just stared at us as we walked by in the morning and night. At check in, they didn't tell us what their hotel had to offer nor did they tell us which part of their hotel was opened and closed during this time. On the other hand, the men at the hotel were much friendlier. They greeted us each time they saw us and was very helpful when we asked them a question.
The hotel is at a very convenient location and we were able to get to the Subway quickly. The room with the double bunk bed was better than I thought it would be. My entire family of 4 loved the bunk beds. We thought the room was going to not have enough spaces for all of us to store our clothes, backpacks, purses, toiletry bags, and luggage but there were plenty of cubby holes, drawers and pegs to hang our items. As all bathrooms are small at hotels in NYC, this bathroom was actually spacious. The shower had a rain showerhead with strong pressure...which is what we liked. There was 1 trash can in the bathroom that was on the small side and each day we filled up that trash can quickly. In fact, it was overflowing and we had to use another plastic shopping bag that we had to use as a trash bag. Housekeeping only came every 4 days so we consistently had to ask them to empty our trash can every day.
We paid EXTRA for a package deal that included the room and a continental breakfast for 2. What we got was a boxed grab and go breakfast that consisted of an orange, yogurt and a Danish one day and a tiny juice box, a corn muffin and a yogurt another day. To me, this was hardly a "continental" breakfast. These were side items that I would normally put in my kids' lunch boxes for school. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand that we are in a Pandemic and the grab and go boxes are the way to go...but don't false advertise it and make me pay extra for side items that are thrown together! Call it what it is! This is NOT considered a "continental breakfast". PLUS...when we got there, we found out that this "continental breakfast" was FREE to ALL of their guests!! So essentially, we paid more for a package that was free to all of their guests anyway!! Definitely false advertisement of their room packages.
Would I stay here again? Probably not. The rooms are nice but the customer service was...
