So a little history of myself before I get into the review; I come from a physical therapy background, I worked as an aide for a little over 3 years in one of Long Islands busiest offices. Before that, I went to trade schools to become a mechanic and an electrician right out of high school so no prior college experience. Let me tell you, I was honestly hesitant about enrolling into this school; if youâre from NY then itâs your nature to be skeptical about everything đ. BUT! This place is the real deal, everything they promise they deliver and then some. I graduated in Dec 22â and it took me a little while to truly gather my thoughts and come up with the right words to describe my experience at focus. If youâre serious about joining the wild world that is the fitness industry then this THE PLACE to go and learn. Their curriculum is fast paced but definitely manageable to grasp if youâre dedicated and this is what you TRULY WANT. Iâm passionate about this field, I can honestly say I live and breath this life, I spend my free time researching and reading articles just for fun (get a life Cristian, am I right?). The instructors and owners also have shown me that this is their life as well, this what they live for, this is their calling so I knew I had found a home where I truly belong. Anybody can come in and leave with more than they had hoped to get, the course is very in depth, well structured and up to date backed by literature. My class consisted of all different walks of life, we had a few college graduates with their B.S., a few veterans whoâve proudly served our country, a few students not even from this country, models, cooks, you name it. Any and everybody belongs here no matter where theyâre from, as long as this what your true passion is. The instructors were AMAZING, I canât even put into words what theyâve done for me and my fellow classmates. I had the honor of having Michelle, Felix and Caroline as my instructors and they are all experts in the field, theyâre passionate about teaching, theyâre patient and they all have one quality about them that I lovedâŚthey cared. The school definitely prepares their students to be the best personal trainer they can be. From their in depth kinesiology course to learning proper exercise form in the weight room, they go above and beyond to make sure everyone is trained and prepared to work in gyms, hotels, PT offices, clinics, etc. I went into the school with a fixed way of programming/ training and they broke me out of my ignorances. They made the burning passion in my belly (shout out to Michelle) even hotter and now I look at exercises, I read articles and watch seminars in a different light. Focus not only gave me a great education with fantastic instructors and staff, they gave me a home, a family, a place where I belong. They turned our group of fitness enthusiasts into a family of Mislifts (trademark pending). Thank you Focus for everything, Iâm not exaggerating when I say Focus really changed my life. They gave me direction with guidance and if youâre passionate about fitness, sports science, medical exercise or anything that falls under exerciseâŚthis...

In other words: the Master Trainer course at FPTI was an amazing experience that not only prepared me to enter a competitive and exciting field, but it also opened doors and created networks that would otherwise have been difficult to come by.
Let's face it, the personal training industry is growing at a very fast rate. In order to separate yourself from an increasingly saturated field of trainers and fitness professionals you NEED the skills and knowledge to stand out from the crowd. Focus Personal Training Institute is the answer. The challenging and comprehensive 700-hour Master's Course covers virtually every single component of achieving success in the personal training industry. The classes are small, intimate and focused on preparing each student for the challenges of becoming elite fitness professionals.
None of this could have been achieved without the dedicated faculty and support staff at Focus. The instructors at Focus are made up of some of the industry's leading experts.Their passion for personal training and exercise science is surpassed only by their passion to teach and pass on the wealth of knowledge they have accumulated through years of involvement in the fitness industry.
I am extremely thankful for the time and dedication that FPTI spent on my behalf. I would not be where I am today without their help, support and guidance. I could have been a trainer by just getting certified and called it a day. But I didn't want to be just "a trainer", I wanted to be an OUTSTANDING trainer. That is why I chose Focus.
As a plus, FPTI is a nationally accredited institute of higher learning and they are covered under the Post 9/11 GI Bill! If you are a Veteran, like me, and you have education benefits under the GI Bill they can be used to attend Focus Personal Training Institute. Tuition, housing and books are covered under the GI Bill!
The bottom line is this: if you are serious about being a fitness professional in New York City, or wherever for that matter, you would be remiss not to at least visit Focus, speak with Joe and Gabe and discuss whether FPTI would be a good fit for you as you embark on your journey to become a trainer.

Read moreI signed up for a tour at a gym but did not tell them I was a student at FOCUS. If I'm being honest I wanted to test out the brand name. You all have said great things about the school, but I wanted to see it for myself and indeed I did. I signed up for the tour, set the date, and off I went. As I was leaving school on Tuesday, a few classmates walked in the same direction as I do in order to catch the train. I didn't turn to go to the train, I told them I was heading to check out Equinox and they asked if they could tag along. I asked the contact at Equinox who was to be my tour guide if that was ok and she gave me the thumbs up. In our uniforms, we made our way uptown to Equinox on 53rd.
Once we arrived at Equinox we signed in to the club with our FOCUS uniforms on. We arrived early to account for time to sign in. When we finished signing in we were told our tour guide Emily was on the tail end of another tour so she wasn't available yet. We were in no rush, so we stepped outside to sit on the bench and wait for our tour to begin. Literally less than five minutes after we sat down, right outside, the General Manager of that gym (who just so happened to be at the front desk when we came in) came out to us saying something along the lines of, "I saw you all are from FOCUS from your T-shirts and when you said you were doing the tour with Emily I found that odd because you're FOCUS students. I instead asked the head Personal Trainer to come down and give you guys the tour. I think that'd be a better fit!" From that alone, you can imagine our shock and excitement!!
We did not walk into the gym flaunting our FOCUS shirts nor did we say anything to them regarding FOCUS. The GM saw our shirts and personally came out to us in order to hand us off to her head Personal Trainer for the tour. I'll be completely honest, at the beginning, I thought you all were hyping up the FOCUS brand and thought to myself, been there done that. Another school really trying to sell their elevator pitch until... the unexpected happened. This moment was all the proof I needed. When you all say FOCUS is legit, FOCUS is a well-known name in the industry, FOCUS is the place to be, all I have to say from this day on is a line from the Big Band Theory said by Seldon Cooper, "Believe because...
