Mostly disappointed. The only thing this place had that kept it from getting a no star rating was a good view & a comfortable bed. This is the first time in five years my wife and I have had the money to do something spectacular so I decided to book a "resort" room with the expectation of using a hot tub, pool, and dine in a nice restraunt on site.
The cost of my reservation for two nights came close to $270. I booked the room with the expectation of being able to use it's many amenities. 24 hours prior to checking in I received a call from the resort stating that the use of the pool would not be an option for at least three days and then was asked if I wanted to cancel! It was at this time I asked of the hot tubs were still available, and even though I did not get a clear answer, I decided to keep the reservation. I mean where was I going to book last minute anyways?
When we arrived to the resort, at check-in it was confirmed that use of hot tubs was out of the question. Not only that but the restraunt on site was closed for the winter!
Trying to stay positive, my wife and I dropped off some stuff in the room and decided to go for a walk around the "resort." We did not find any ice machines near our building, nor could we see where to find the sauna. So on our way out to town we stopped into the lobby and found that the sauna was also unavailable, and that the closest ice machine on the map was near building F, which is just a "little ways" from our building C.
Ok icing on the cake, on the first night my wife decides to go get some ice. After about 30 minutes she returns to tell me that she had to walk up a steep hill at least a 1/4 mile just to find out the machine did not work! After finding this out, she trekked her way down to the lobby, at which time the attendant did assist her by giving her some ice, but also explained that it was against the rules!
So after all this, on the last night of our stay, I decided to talk to someone who might be able to offer some sort of compensation. I spoke with the gentleman at the front and explained to him that I picked this place for what it had to offer, and what it offers we can't have. At first he asked if I had received a call informing me of the pool closure. I told him that, yes I received that call, however, it was 24 hours before I was to check in. Not only that but no one stated that other amenities were affected by the closure, and what was I going to do, there was no way I would have found a decent place to stay within my budget on such short notice.
The gentleman agreed and gave me 20% off for the inconvenience. We also got a couple free DVD rentals. However, the DVD player only played in black and white!
We should of been offered a discount at the moment of receiving the call about the pool, I shouldn't have had to ask. They need more working ice machines. Better advertising of their restraunt hours. Last but not least, better attention to detail in regards to the room. None of the lights in the room had matching light bulbs, some were daylight and others were soft white. The TV had horrible contrast, like it was going out and the DVD player only played in black and white.
We are simple folk. We don't need much to impress, but if we buy something with our hard earned money we do expect it to at least fulfill what it advertises. We will not be going back to this "resort" next...
Read moreI rented one of the King condo suites with a sofa bed. This one is on the water and has a fantastic view of the harbor from its deck. When we first got here, we walked into the room and it was 80° in the room. Run hot all the time and so that was very uncomfortable for us. Right off the bat. We looked for an air conditioner, but there is not one. They do provide room fans. We were really disappointed right away that there was no air conditioning because that does seem to be a standard in any other hotel that you would commonly stay in. Even motel 6 has air conditioning. When I called the front desk to ask about the air conditioning, I was simply told That the building was 70 years old after all and had no air conditioning. The answer could have been better after I had traveled 12 and 1/2 hours to get here and was met up with a very overly warm room. Now, having said all that. I had read a few of the reviews and did not agree with some of the comments that were made. I have not had any black come up on my white socks from the carpets. They are clean. They provided a small bottle of dish soap to do dishes. I read one comment that said they did not have dish soap. I'm sure if they had asked for it, they would have been provided it. It may have just simply been missed when being set up. Another mention there was no coffee in the room but there is a lot of coffee in the kitchen in this room. Again, I'm sure if they asked for it, they would have been provided it. The bathroom is very spacious and I loved the shower. You do have to be careful about keeping the curtain on the other side of the lip because otherwise the water will go out onto the bathroom floor. I loved the touch lamps in The bedroom. There is an overhead fan that keeps the air moving and the room nice and cool. There is also a very nice window in the bedroom to keep it cool. There could be more open accessibility in the main room to open windows. Because it gets really hot in the main room without some way to move the air or bring the cool air from outside in. The kitchen seemed really clean. I love that the TV didn't have just your generic local stations. It's a Smart TV and I was able to sign into my accounts with Netflix and prime and felt like I was at home. Just have to make sure that you log off afterwards. It was noted that the bathroom fan was not strong enough to keep the bathroom cool. Other than that, the bathroom was very clean 🙂 The bathroom was stocked with facial cleaning wipes, soap, and there were shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel dispensers in the shower. Shower head was not weak, but it wasn't one of those. Beautifully strong flows either. So it just kind of depends on the kind of person you are and how you like your showers. I saw a lot of comments come in about the pool and hot tub. I had seen on the website 8 months ago when I started looking into this place to stay that the pool and hot tub had a planned maintenance period in May and June. If these people were not paying attention to the website, then they were probably disappointed but need to be better at doing their research. The gentleman was very nice when we checked in. It does have a restaurant attached to the hotel, but it can be on the pricey side. This hotel is along the most charming waterfront down in the...
Read moreNot at all happy. When I made the reservation I forgot to ask for the Veterans discount so I asked for it at checkin and was told they were applying it to the bill. Also when I made the reservation I asked for a room with no or limited stairs because my husband are both somewhat handicapped and have trouble navigating the stairs. I was told that the room we were getting would have 3-4 stairs. When we arrived and proceeded to our room it had 13 stairs. I immediately went back to ask for a different room, there were none available so we had to stay in the room for the night and they would move us the next day for the second and third night. They also offered someone to help us get the bags up and down the stairs. We were also offered another discount to compensate us for our inconvenience. All sounded fine so the next day we checked with them on moving to the new room. We did get assistance with the move. The new room, however, was not pleasant. It was much darker had an awful sulphur smell and not as pretty a view. We had to keep the window open at night because of the smell and it was very noisy from people coming and going and talking loudly as they made their way up the stairs (not the hotel's fault). The first morning in the second room someone got up at 5 AM and took a half hour shower then tromped around for a while before leaving and loudly conversing with a friend. The next morning was not much better with people getting noisy around 7. We checked out and went on our way early so we would not have to endure the stench any longer. When I got home I checked on the bill and found that it was for the entire amount of the original reservation over $600. No discounts for Veterans or for inconvenience. After 5 calls trying to speak with the manager and having to leave messages I finally was able to talk with her. In the meantime I discovered that I had received a mere $14 discount for the inconvenience. This was not really the 15% I expected. When I received my final two bills which I had to request be sent to me. I could see where the discounts had been applied but not that they had made any difference in the cost of the rooms. Now, after all those issues I also need to mention that the hotel is in need of maintenance as well. The sliding door to the bathroom sticks and apparently has for quite some time because of the large grooves in the door itself from rubbing against the walls. There are cobwebs on the windows and dead bugs on the outside. Litter was left lying on the ground around the rooms for the full time we were there. The ice machines were empty. The easy chair in the second room we occupied was broken and almost fell over when sat in. There was duct tape in some places for repairs. This used to be a high level place to stay. It is not any more! Oh and finally, the state was under a mask mandate and the man who helped us move had a mask but it was not on properly. When I mentioned it he said " Oh, I don't believe in that I think it is all just publicity stuff!" So apparently this hotel does not care about Vets or the health of their clients. Glad I brought my own...
