We came to Newport Oregon from Boise Idaho for our 16th Anniversary. WOW.!! What a blast! If u are in the area u must come down to the marina. We walked around for probably 3 hours. There are several piers that you can download to. We loved walking on the piers (Marina) & checking out all the GIGANTIC Fishing vessels. Its absolutely beautiful here. There are so many lil stores, restaurants, coffee shops to see. If u are a seafood lover, this IS the place to go. The seafood come right out of the Pacific ocean. Literally from ocean to table. Its a wonderful place to buy souvenirs!! We went to many businesses on the marina. They also have a Ripley believe it or not museum there as well. We did not tour the museum but a lot of folks were raving about it as they were waiting the building. Also the big & beautiful Yaquina Bay Bridge is super cool! Definitely worth going! We probably could have stayed out on the marina for another 3 hours, there's that many things to see &...

There's a wax museum, Ripley's Believe it or Not, and an Undersea Gardens. The Rogue brewery is across the water, as is the Aquarium and the Hatfield Marine Science Center. But seriously: eat at Mo's and try the chowder, the beer battered halibut fish and chips, the chicken linguine alfredo, the fish tacos, and the marionberry cobbler....
Read moreWe found this part of Newport to be underwhelming compared with expectations. The sea lions were super fun to watch for a bit but many of the shops are outdated with kitschy gifts, one featured nothing but stuffed alpacas....uncertain how this can stay in business? To be fair some lovely local art was featured in a few of the galleries. You just get the sense the neighborhood is past its prime and needs a refresh. Ripley's is a case in point that I remember from my childhood and was fine not being reminded of again. Also, w working fish pier doesn't have to reek of rancid fish for 5 straight blocks. Much prefer the cute Nye Beach area to this...
