Experience was only "meh". Took my sister-in-laws in for glass blowing as they had never done it before. I've been to other studios and to be honest, this one fell flat. I understand the restrictions for Covid are somewhat limiting, but I've been to other studios since Covid hit and they were a lot more hands on. We did not get to do any of the blowing (which I have done safely since Covid in other studios) and most of the process was handled by the instructor. We had to wear masks the entire time while the instructor did not, at all, and neither did the person that was in training and working right next to us. Also, they had us wear gloves, which I've never done in other studios before, but didn't tell us they were not sanitized at all until we were done and taking them off. Would have been nice to know before hand and given the choice to wear them or not. The instructor did not wear any at any time, so I'm not sure why we had to. We all made small bowls and even though we requested the same exact thing but different colors, we ended up with 3 different bowls - shapes and sizes. One bowl was nicely shaped. The second bowl turned out ok but that was after my sister-in-law was insistent that the instructor continue to work on it so it wasn't uneven and lopsided. After being asked several times if it was ok, my sister-in-law finally agreed to it being done and it turned out "ok". Mine was the worst and I'm really sorry I didn't insist on the instructor working on it more. As the instructor and "artist", I relied her on expertise to help produce a quality item. I'm a little surprised she would let the piece go out the door with stores stamp on the bottom. The picture probably doesn't show how misshaped the bowl is, but it is definitely lopsided and has air bubbles (not sure if that is normal as none of my other pieces have them). They were ok, just make sure to speak up and insist on fixing things when they don't seem right (even though you're not...
Read moreI had so much fun here.
I'm from out of town and was looking for things to do and was glass blowing which was super exciting because I'd always wanted to try. I looked at a couple places but was turned off by the websites or the shops being dark and hard to navigate until I found Oregon Coast Glassworks.
Their website was light, easy to navigate and had some great reviews which was promising. Even better was the shop lived up to those descriptions. It was light and open (half the shop was windows), and the staff were super friendly. There was a lot of variety of glass to buy but I was really enthusiastic about getting to blow my own glass, and my enthusiasm was matched by the people there. The person teaching me how was super patient and very thorough in explaining everything to me before she had me do it and would have us repeat steps to get things perfect and make sure I was happy with what we were making. She answered all my questions and seemed to really enjoy her job.
Overall I was really happy and would go back and clearly want to recommend it to as many...
Read moreI came here to make a large heart that sits on a stand and I ended up with a small heart that was too small to sit on the stand. It literally looked like a paper weight. I tried to tell the person helping me make the glass art that I wanted it bigger and apparently she ignored me. Then they tried to charge me the price listed for the large heart shape instead of the paper weight price. I confronted the person taking my payment about this and they only removed $10 from my bill which still ended up costing more than the paperweight price. I was also informed while they were taking my payment that they didn't make the size I wanted anymore. I was not informed about that before I arrived at the shop. And if that was the case why would you not charge me the paper weight size. I didn't argue - I figured they were probably desperate for the money. I'm not from the area but I'm not coming back nor would I advise anyone else because of...
