Absolutely a perfect experience at the Bay Inn during two separate stays in one vacation. I flew into Norfolk and met a lifelong friend for a weeks visit. We spent the first few nights in Norfolk at the Bay Inn, checked out for two scheduled nights close to specific activities she wanted to do and show me as a VA resident. Then, we returned to the Bay Inn as per schedule to end our visit before she had to head back to work in Richmond. My last night, which is tonight as I type feels safe, comfortable and pleasant as a single female tourist here at the Inn.
I was the one whom originally found and suggested this particular motel to start our visit based on months of watching the reviews of multiple travel sites. Almost every review was positive which is rare. The few that had low scores always had a logical response from the on-site owner that made me sure I had found the perfect place to stay. In a discussion with he and his wife he mentioned that the people staying at his private owner - operated hotel are essentially staying in his back yard so to speak since they live on property. Thus, he expects and requires respectful and dignified behavior from his guest. I loved that comment because in turn it assured me that my stay was going to be safe and serene.
My reading the many positive reviews and trusting my instinct really paid off with this stay. At first appearance I knew the neighborhood was lovely and beautifully landscaped which was a great start for this quaint motel perfectly positioned across the street from a private beach among a lovely high end neighborhood.
The room was beautifully renovated as described in review after review. Gray tile floor and walls in the bathroom with gray wood flooring in the bedroom with updated furniture and tv. Since there were two of us my friend and I had rented the only two bed unit which had plenty of room for two ladies with lots of bags.
The courtyard is picturesque with beautifully trimmed flowering trees. There is plenty of Adirondack chairs and cute little patio tables to sit and relax with a book or visit in the courtyard.
My friend that is a quasi local being a Virginia resident is planning to make this her weekend getaway spot with her Husband or daughter to enjoy the beach inexpensively, but yet with a lovely area and room.
Without doubt I am positive my choice for the Bay Inn over a corporate chain where the employees tend not to care without the personal investment was the best choice. When I first called to inquire about the accommodations I ended up laughing and feeling as if I was talking with a friend. Now after staying here I still feel the same and look forward to the...
Read moreI recently transfered to Norfolk and followed by an immediate deployment and returned recently. I noticed Bay Inn on Booking and decided to put eyes on the area prior to booking due to the high rating seemingly not matching the cost of the rooms. I drove through the front parking lot to the back parking lot and parked at approximately 1100. I wanted to verify it wasn't a motel with shady characters or unkept. I did notice a white male who walked up to the hotel door while I drove by, his body language was off putting but I didn't think much of it. Being satisfied with the cleanliness of the property, the layout and environment I continued the process of making reservations on Booking. Before I could finish I was approached by a man and rolled down my window. He was immediately hostile and rude. His first words were "can I help you"? I said no I'm good. He then told me I'm on private property and I needed to leave. I told him I'm trying to rent a room online right now. He yelled about me being parked in the back and not the front, pointed to the guest parking and explained it like I couldn't read. Yelled about some other stuff including it not being 1500 yet. I yelled I'm just trying to rent a room. I asked if he was the manager, he told me to get off his property, I asked if he was the owner, he told me to get off his property. I said well obviously im not gonna be staying here, he said no youre not. Then he decided to call the police, as African American male I am not ignorant as to how that tends to end. I also don't have the luxury of being able to explain to my Command that the reason I had a negative interaction with law enforcement is because I wanted more information about an individual and company to be able to file a complaint after the person has told me to leave "private property". As a potential customer, the only place I've been treated this way is France. Out of the 6 countries I've gone to its the only one I've experienced prejudice so deep; that not only are they refusing service and by extention my money, but they would rather me not step foot in their business. I'll spend my money somewhere else, and If Nick is the actual owner he can provide his services however he sees fit. Nonetheless it's good to be home during...
Read more01/14/25 Tuesday 08:17am in fairness to Mr. Nick and to save myself from embarrassing him any further I did not record our conversation but I asked him a simple question about the mounting reviews of accounts and accusations of “Racism” by most of his Rejected Black Customers as I addressed them to him as Black Customers keeping my self knowledge of whom and what They really are or Indigenous or Originals of this USA or Turtle Island. Mr. Nicks ‘response’ to me was if I wanted to stay there to check in and if I don’t want to stay there to not check in and I asked him a second time about his treatment of black people and he replied with the same animosity as he did the first time and then he hung up the phone. By the way the first person to answer the phone sounded like an Indian Sister from India and when I asked her for a manager she instantly had animosity in her voice and said that she was a manager and then I asked her could I speak with Mr. Nick and then I heard some talking in the background and then he spoke to me over the phone and that was the outcome. I simply asked him an unbiased question of why all these Black people where accusing Him of being Racist and that I wanted His honest response to my question to give Him the ‘Benefit Of Doubt’ to disprove them with any ambiguity that may have occurred on their part but after I spoke with Him Myself I would have to say that their is no ‘Ambiguity’ on their part and that for the best interest of all Americans and Decent People in the World everywhere find better places to stay that represent the best of the Human Race!
Please Note and understand that 2 or more peoples Animosity is not representative of the Majority of Race’s or Country’s of other people these individuals are only “Reflective” of ‘Themselves’ and We all hope and pray that these Family Members of ‘Ours’ the Human Race improve for the better remember we still love you we just don’t want to be you hahahaha have...
