I have lived here since 2008 and cannot believe that, I just discovered that there is a diner here. My 10-year-old daughter, and I decided to check it out.
We had grilled cheese, fries, chicken tenders, and biscuits and gravy. We just weren’t crazy about the food. It was like the oil haven’t been changed or wasn’t fresh for the fried foods and the biscuits and gravy just tasted bland. We unfortunately weren’t satisfied with the food really at all. I’m very surprised considering I’ve seen this place recently absolutely packed in the morning so I figured it was a really awesome local Beach diner spot. It could’ve been a bad day though, but I don’t feel like wasting more money to give this place another shot because literally everything we had we was not good not just one item or two. It’s a shame. I really wanted to like this place and support local business.
The inside could be decorated more for character, and to enhance the atmosphere of the diner. It’s just kind of plain and nothing special. We didn’t notice any merch for sale like T-shirts either.
The service was all right, or waitress was really friendly. The couple servers that we talk to were very friendly, helpful, welcoming and worked quickly. We didn’t complain about the food quality to them.
This restaurant has some dinner hours, but they didn’t mention which days of the week that they open at five for dinner. I noticed they had homemade beef stroganoff, which my daughter, and I might come in to check out one evening.
If we decide to try here again particularly for dinner, I will update the review. I want to love this place and give them a five...
Read moreI was looking for a quick breakfast place and trip advisor suggested this place. Walking in I could tell it was a bit unorganized but we sat. It took 3 servers to approach my table before taking the order. The male manager actually gave us our drinks but tossed a straw at my husband and said he couldnt take our order because he had to get another table first. Then he took forever laughing and being overly nice to them. So then server 3 took the order. I noticed looking around the manager was more pleasant to who HE THOUGHT were locals. We also own property on the beach but due to my husband being dark and me being light skin he probably assumed we didn't. We grew up in CT and we never have these issues there but often experience it in Virginia and it's sad. Especially when I am a serial review poster. 3 servers and not one asked how the food was or offered me more coffee. I had to ask for it. Nobody took our empty dishes or brought a check. I had to ask for it. I left $2 tip to make a point not because I didn't want to leave more but the point was "I recognize your poor service but I'm not cheap so I left you something". Fyi this place is very small and has no more than 15 tables so the reason for the lack of service wasn't due to being busy. There was another interracial couple and 1 black family there. These three tables from what I saw were all treated like us. I am 100% white so not playing any "race card". I call it like I see it. This place is under new ownership and if you want to support a place like this esp when the male manager is the owner (I was told by a neighbor) be my guest. I most...
Read moreI had some high hopes going to this diner. I think those hopes went out the window when I had to sit in a church pew in the waiting room. It wasn’t too too bad. They were probably from Holy Trinity being out in here in Ocean View, Norfolk. And I think I can safely say that any meal especially breakfast is only as good as you make it for yourself. Every place you eat has their spin on things you eat. It can be good and it can be bad. And being a diner, I would’ve expected a little more grease. But that’s just me. I was waiting for a friend, since this was his idea. He had told me 9AM on Sunday, let’s get some breakfast. I get to the OV Diner at 9:30 and he doesn’t show up until like 10:30. That’s another story to be told. So I’d ordered some grit cakes with sausage gravy on top; 2 eggs over-easy with home fries and a slab of corned beef hash. Grit cakes sounded good but seemed to get lost in the mix of sausage gravy. Not a bad thing, but it just seemed to disappear. I think I’ve only had good home fries the way I’d liked and it was in Richmond. These home fries were just small red potatoes cut into fourths and barely any char at all. Yeah, I’d just looked at pics on their facebook page and they seemed cooked through all the way in pics. I didn’t eat a lot as I’d saved the rest for later. I was hoping to get one of the donuts I’d seen on their facebook page. I mean, that’s what brought me in in the first place. The food was alright. Would I go back? I don’t know. It’s only a breakfast/lunch place.
My friend got a Greek omlette. It looked pretty good and he said he liked...
