This was the value option this trip but even it was expensive for what it was. I wanted a pool but didn’t want to spend a fortune. The outside hot tub has great jets & the pool was refreshing. Friends always stay here & we’d been in their room so we knew what to expect. We upgraded to the Jacuzzi suite & it was nice to relax in the hot tub after a long day & night at the beach. ||||Most staff had masks under their chins or hanging from an ear. Other than us, I didn’t see another guest with a mask. The front desk staff did pull their masks on correctly when we approached. While that was a polite gesture, it’s useless. ||||The property is showing its age. Maybe they didn’t have good cashflow due to Covid but there are little things that need addressing . . .chipped paint, rusty gates, dinged walls, stained carpet, sagging furniture etc. It’s not bad but you don’t have to look hard to see imperfections. Even when you first arrive the fountain out front is no longer working. You have to call the front desk if you want your room serviced; it’s not automatic anymore but they always supplied more or clean towels when asked. ||||The bed was incredibly comfortable. You get a variety of pillow densities so everyone should find something they like. The very clean sheets were also soft but the towels can be scratchy. The blackout drapes work well. We were on the side of the hotel that faces the entrance to the I-76 so it was a bit noisy on Sunday night. The blackout drapes did help to muffle the noise. The toiletries were lovely; I really liked the citrus, mint lotion. The toilet gives you flushing options for more or less water. We tried to use the less water option but it was a very noisy air driven flush. Still it was nice that the hotel cared about the environment. ||||There is only 1 ice machine on the 1st floor, so that was annoying. They have a "market place" in the lobby which is more like some shelves. They discontinued the water dispenser in the lobby; now you have to buy over priced bottled water. Don’t do it – there a 3 markets, including a 7-11, within a couple of hundred yards. ||||Breakfast was more of a pre-Covid affair which I found disconcerting. There were too many unmasked people breathing on my food. I realize it’s a space issue but the hotel would have better served their guests to make it a buffet separated by plexiglass where staff doles out the western omelets & bacon, as well as makes the toast & the waffles. Stopping the water in the lobby but doing this...
Read moreWe booked the “presidential suite”, we arrived around 5pm, check in was easy, as soon as we walk into our room there was cleaning equipment straight in. the middle of the floor, it was opened up as if it was middle of use and there was cleaning solution left open bottle, the room had a very off putting smell not sure if it was because of the chemicals left out or what. After lugging equipment and solution to the hallway, we checked the mini fridge which was not working and had leaked water from being thawed, the carpet was still damp from either the fridge or the carpet cleaner. We went to wash our hair before going out and we did not realize we were completely out of shampoo, the bottle didn’t have anything in it so we had to go down again after asking about the fridge and equipment left behind to ask for shampoo and they just handed us little bottles instead of replacing the one on the wall. the bathroom was not well cleaned, the toilet had stuff left over on it, a hair left on the seat, there was a hair dangling from the hair blow dryer, then we go to put away clothing in the drawers where there was more hair. The next morning we woke up to be shocked that the sheets had slipped revealing a large brown stain on the mattress, i was not even searching for this it was just so obvious. All of this combined just felt like careless cleaning job they didn’t even finish cleaning, left stuff behind. The room was very very noisy as it’s next to the highway, the hot tub takes so long to fill, the tvs are completely outdated, we could not use any applications, we could not airplay youtube or anything, cannot see the tv from hot tub, so we wanted to listen to music, they don’t pay for the music channels, the channels kept going out saying “weather related” and the weather was perfect, we even went for a walk. we literally were watching a movie and it happened and by the time the tv came back on the movie was finished… we wanted to get a water and their “market” for a smart water was $7 which, take it as you will but for that condition of a hotel and lack of care, cmon now. The breakfast was pretty garage unless you want a muffin or waffle: the eggs were pretty bland, the sausage felt like i was biting into a sponge, the juices were okay, and i went down straight at 6:35 so i can’t say i even waited to long to get...
Read moreStaff service is very lacking at this Hotel. Very laid back and not welcoming to guests. Most of the time we would see the staff sitting just behind the front desk, off to the left side. Not there to greet guests and make us feel welcome. When you get on/off the elevator the door to the back office was almost always open and this is where we would again see the staff sitting down & not acting in a professional manner. I was given keys to the room that did not work, went down to the FD to exchange the keys and it truly felt like I was being a burden to the gal at the FD, no apology. I just wanted to be able to access the room that I had paid for. Once finally in the room it looked good at first inspection. My daughter went to the FD to get additional towels & conditioner; she also came back perturbed that she was made to feel that she was bothering the FD. The FD is there to help provide the "Commitment to Service" to all guests. This is lacking at this Hotel. We spent most of the day out exploring Oceanside. The next day we ate breakfast in the very cramped, poorly laid out breakfast area. The sign on the wall said that you were not allowed to take the food outside of that room. I would have loved to been able to enjoy the food in a setting less chaotic, like my room. I found a Harvest Peach yogurt and once I opened it, it was berry instead. I tried to bring it to the Breakfast Hosts attention yet she did not speak English so I went to the FD instead. I tried to let the FD know yet they seemed very uninterested & not a big deal. I would have assumed that the food vendor could have been notified of the mix up in packaging, once again showing us the poor customer service at this Choice Hotel. My son & I stripped the bedding and also placed the used towels in a pile for the housekeepers. They are in general over worked and underpaid so I like to teach my children to help them out. I then was horrified to see the condition of the bedding. Both queen beds were stained very bad! I also noted that the bedding was not flipped as to Choice standards. Each bed is set to flip every quarter; Jan Feb Mar, April May June, July Aug Sept & Oct Nov Dec. My whole family was just grossed out as to the condition of the beds that we slept on. Wish that I had seen them before we laid...
