Two years ago, I was fresh out of college, full of hope, and in a relationship I thought would last forever. I won a “free” hotel stay — all I had to do was attend a promotional meeting. That’s how they rope you in. That’s how I got conned. Enter Michael Harty, the smooth-talking salesman who preyed on our love of travel and our naivety. He pitched a dream: “vacation ownership,” luxury getaways, international travel for a fraction of the price, endless availability, and a magical booking portal through RCI that would give us the world. Spoiler alert: NONE of that turned out to be true. Here’s the reality: Their New England stays never have availability, which I was told would be easy to book. The website travel website, RCI, is a dysfunctional nightmare, full of empty promises. In TWO YEARS, I’ve only used it TWICE. Yet I’m throwing $400/month down the drain for absolutely nothing. When my boyfriend and I broke up, I tried to cancel. They said I couldn’t. Period. I tried to split it, as Michael Harty claimed I’d be able to if we broke up. They said I’d have to buy the entire thing out first — over $13,000. Now I’m stuck. A young woman with student loan debt, ambitions to go back to school, and a massive financial burden strapped to my back for NOTHING. They sold me lies. They played on my emotions, my relationship, my dreams. And now I’m paying for their manipulation every single month. I feel sick every time I think about it. The guilt and frustration is overwhelming. This is NOT just a bad purchase — it’s a straight-up scam dressed in resort photos and false promises. If you're reading this, DO NOT FALL FOR IT. No matter how appealing the presentation seems. No matter how convincing the salesperson sounds. It’s all smoke and mirrors. This timeshare company has stolen my money, my peace of mind, and my ability to move forward financially. I wouldn’t wish this...
Read moreDo not trust InnSeason Resorts when they’re doing a “giveaway”. I got a call that I won their “grand prize of a 3-5 night vacation stay” when I entered a giveaway at Apple Harvest in Dover NH, and they even emailed me paperwork stating I am entitled to this vacation without under any obligation to buy anything. There was zero mention of needing to buy a timeshare, the word “timeshare” was never even mentioned in the phone call. I was instructed to attend their “presentation” at 2:30pm sharp at the Falls at Ogunquit, and that we would “love the way we are treated when we’re there”. We arrive early, and aren’t even seen until almost 4pm!! The representative called us over, and of course started trying to push a timeshare on us. I understand the need to advertise, but I was very firm with him and made it very clear we are not interested. I explained that I was there due to the phone call I received about winning “the grand prize of a free vacation.” He looked at me and goes “well you didn’t actually win anything,” and shared with us how much money they make literally just from having us walk in the door!! Approximately $800 altogether. Are you serious? I would not be surprised if InnSeason Resorts called everyone who entered their so-called “giveaway”. I am hard working and work long night shifts at the hospital, and when I initially got the phone call and the emails, of course I was over the moon. But to then be scammed and have my time wasted, was just plain mean of them and I will never ever stay at one of their resorts nor would I recommend them to anyone. I’ll look back on this and laugh, but also remember that if it sounds too good to be true, it...
Read moreI have mixed feelings at the moment as I visited InnSeason for a promotional timeshare event. Knowing the stigma of all timeshares, I was hesitant but willing to listen. Joe was exceptionally kind and thorough when presenting the many potential benefits of becoming a member. He answered all questions and did his best to promote why we could use the service.
He also took us on a tour of one of the suites on site. I would say they have a very clean 90's decore and would be comfortable staying at this hotel.
Sadly, as our time came to an end, Joe introduced us to his manager to discuss possible plans. He seemed personable and genuine, however, upon seeing the expense of all options, we kindly declined as we do not make $10k+ luxury purchases in an afternoon. At this moment, the pleasantries, hospitality and decency evaporated. Joe's manager changed his demeanor, took no time breaking his gaze, abruptly stood up, slamming his hands and said, "Joe, they're all yours." And walked away without saying "Goodbye."
To be treated like an object or revenue stream is signs of a toxic culture. To go further, walking away when you don't make a sale, is hilariously childish. Perhaps we could have discussed it and come to a favorable decision the next day but his behavior was inexcusable.
At this point, time shares and the culture it fosters continues to reinforce it's negative reputation.
In the end, I would consider staying at the hotel but question they're association with RCI and their...
