So imagine this. You're at the beach and you want to go swimming. You get your little paddle board and paddle out to sea. Its a nice little time, and all is well. Then the clouds roll in. You think youre fine because you only swam out a few dozen yards, but it starts to rain. Before you can realize a current sweeps you out to the blue. The storm picks up, thunder booms above your head as you are dragged helplessly out to the atlantic. Everyone else has swam back to shore when the rain started and you pray one of them noticed you in the panic. The beach is now barely visible through the downpour. Something grabs your leg. You instictually take a breath before being yanked below the water. Seawater stings your eyes as you try to find the creature clinging your leg in the murky water. You struggle, kicking at the strange dark figure as you are pulled deeper into the abyss. Your body tires and aches from the lack of oxygen, and vision begins to fade. Just before you black out, you think you see a light in the depths... You awake on a cold table, with a sharp pain in your chest. A creature leans over you, a humanoid fish monster which you recognize as the thing that grabbed you. It reaches out with thin fin-like arms and lifts you up. You look around the room. Theres two more of the fish creatures, they seem to have some kind of weaponry, sharp batons fashioned from sea shells. You are pulled off the table and dragged toward the rooms single door. You try to walk but your legs still ache from struggling. The captors toss you through the door. At first, you are relieved to see other humans, but your heart fills with dread when you see they are shackeld to the wall, and their mouths are sewn shut. You try to scream, but realize your mouth is sealed as well. The other captives look at you with pain in their eyes. Something tells you they have been here for a long time. The fish people drag your weak body to the wall, where an empty set of shackles waits. Cold metal clasps around your wrists. With you secured to the wall, the fish people make their way to another captive, a young man, no older than 30. They free his hands from the wall and hoist him to his feet. He begins to struggle, flailing at the creatures, muffled screams come from his wired lips. The fish creatures whack him with their pointy shelled sticks, ripping the flesh from the mans back. He collapses and is dragged to a side room. The door shuts behind them, silencing the muffled screams. You are left alone with the other people, and look into their sad eyes. You all know you will never see that man again. It feels like hours pass, but there is no way to track the time other than your hunger. The fish people return and drag another captive into the other room. This one doesnt bother to resist. Time marches on. The monsters continue bringing people away. Only three of you remain. Then two. One. It must have been at least two days now. You havent slept for a minute. Only a matter of time until you discover what happened to the others. Finally, the three fish people come to remove your shackles. Part of you is relieved to meet your fate. You know not to struggle as you are hoisted to your feet. Suddenly a deafening sound bursts your ears. Water begins flooding through a hole in the wall. You drop to the ground as your captors brandish their clubs. You hear gunshots through your ringing ears and the fish people are riddled with bullets. A team of divers enter through the hole. One grabs you and shoves something in your mouth. You are pulled from the flooding room, and the dive team hoists you to the surface. They lead you on to a waiting ship where a medical team checks your vitals. A well dressed man approaches you, flashing an FBI badge. He asks you to recount what happened. Do you tell him something fishy...
Read moreAmazing beach. We travel a lot and we compare this one to Mayflower Beach in Cape Cod. Of course, water is cold so ocean water activities are limited, but this is Maine, so not subtracting one star for that. Absolutely bring inflatable for kids or teens to go up and down the river.
When tide is going in, the river water is flowing in and kids can ride all the way from mouth of the river at ocean, under bridge, to sand flats, get out in right, then walk through parking lots back. When tide is going our, the flow reverses and they can ride back from last the bridge into the ocean. It’s a lot of fun for them!
The beach is HUGE when tide is out. Almost too large haha looooong walk to the ocean, but gorgeous!
Be there by 9 AM to find parking. We were on a cool not hot day, Saturday, partly clouded, but Labor Day weekend and we took one of the last 5 remaining spots at 9:20 AM. Beach is wonderful. Bring inflatables for the River.
Subtracting one star as it is not possible to get out on main road after you are done with the beach. There are multiple converging roads and no street light. Traffic is at stand still and some have stop sight and others don’t, however, people ignore stop sign because otherwise they will never get out, and that intersection looks like the worst one I have ever seen with all cars in the middle of it congested driving in...
Read moreI have been going to this beach since I was a kid and it still holds a place in my heart. It's great for kids since there are plenty of tidal pools at low tide if you do not feel comfortable bringing them in close to the tide, and the front part of the beach is great for a swim, surf, or walk. The side part of the beach is great for crabbing and fishing and since there is a current there is also great opportunity for paddle-boarding, tubing, and even kayaking. The only thing to watch out for is the tide because it moves in rather quickly and swallows almost the entire front side of the beach. There are also plenty of beach stores and restaurants in case you need to grab a bite, towel, or chair while you are visiting the beach. Parking is also another issue with this beach, in the summer it fills up very quickly and can cost up to $30 so its nice to take a trolley to the beach or even walk if it's possible. Its a short walk to the town and there are also plenty of restaurants and cute...
