Unfortunately this was not the best choice for dinner with 3 hungry kids but there were a few good things, so I’ll start with that. The outside looks very cool and beachy, deck style attached to a surf shop. Nice grassy area on the side for running around with a toddler while waiting for the table. Our hotel was close by so we chose this place out of convenience and the look on the outside. I figured with the name Hooks and the logo as a fish it would be seafood?.. but nope American/ Mexican I suppose you could call it?
30 minutes to get a table which was understandable on a Saturday so I ordered food immediately as we sat down but ended up waiting 40 minutes to get our food! we’re talking burritos, a hotdog with chips/watermelon Service was nowhere to be found the entire wait like maybe to offer chips or something? I was going crazy with a toddler who was hungry. I noticed no tables around me had food and most people were twiddling their thumbs.
Finally food came (what a relief) and got the wrong order for one person. All the food was quite mediocre and $17 for a kids meal? Wow the most expensive I have ever paid at any restaurant. The rice was not real authentic either but parboiled. Lots of complaints I know, but it was pretty disappointing all around and wouldn’t return.
May be nice for a drink at the bar and some chips but if you’re looking for a quick meal with good quality food/service this just ain’t it. Not sure why the slow service..not enough help in the kitchen, inexperience,...
Read moreMy family stopped here for lunch on Saturday 9/6. the food was decent! but the service? truly some kind and special staff. my son is 6 and on the spectrum. I ordered for him the brownie sundae, hold the whipped and chocolate syrup. I should have known better and asked for the ice cream to be separate, but I forgot. we ordered the sundae to be brought out with our meals, however as I know how it works in the kitchen, the dessert staff did not know this, so the brownie sat for a minute. when it was brought out, the ice cream had melted all over the brownie and I was unable to avoid a catastrophe. my son was ready to have a meltdown. so I just bit the bullet, and asked the food runner to please bring me a plain brownie. he immediately understood the assignment, as he asked me if I wanted the brownie warmed up. I said no thank you! but this was a very thoughtful question. the server came over and immediately apologized for not hearing me ask to remove the ice cream and I assure her it was not her fault, but my own. and that I was happy to pay for the extra brownie. they were so kind, and I want them to know how much I truly appreciate their kindness. she did not end up charging me for the extra brownie, and that almost made me cry. the food might not bring me back, but the service absolutely would. thank you so much for allowing this mom to continue her meal to the end,...
Read moreDisappointing. Waited over an hour for a table for 4. Sat down and waited longer than reasonable for our waiter to take our drink order. Chips, pico, guacamole and queso was fresh and really great. Entree food was mediocre (burrito, taco salad, taco salad with chicken, chicken sandwich.). Nothing special, similar to an Applebees. Didn’t order any bar drinks; we asked for a refill on waters after a long while and he only brought 2 and never asked if we needed more for the other 2 people. The live singer was kind of low key and boring; also poor audio quality. I saw a few families leave before their table was called due to the wait, another large group left with to-go boxes due to slow service and hungry, tired toddlers. The parking lot is huge for such a small dining space. Hostess was nice but grossly underestimated the wait time. Holiday week, but had we known it was an hour wait we may have left. Waitstaff didn’t welcome or thank guests with genuine friendliness…a warm welcome and thankful goodbye would have been great. $100 for nothing memorable, flavorful nor delicious. Maybe it has a better bar scene than dining room scene? Looks like a comfortable bar area but the dining tables were small and close together....
