My family has been coming here for over 25 years. My wife and I have carried the tradition on over the past 8 or 9. We've always had the greatest time! The place was never fancy, however, it was always clean and the staff was accommodating and friendly. The trouble started two years ago when one of our kayaks was stolen right from the property. I should have locked it but it's not typical that Kayaks are stoled from resorts in Ogunquit Maine. We wrote that experience off as a one time bad thing. No big deal. Fast forward to this year... We checked in on a Monday and after dinner we went to use the outdoor hot tub. It was not open. I went to ask the manager and he made a cringing face and said " it's closed for some reason, a pump I think??" That was disappointing though it was our first night, so we didn't let it get us down. He said it would be fixed the next day. We didn't attempt to use it the next day as we were busy doing other things. On Wednesday, it was very hot, we went to the beach all day and left early to spend little time at the pool. We got back to our room, grabbed some towels and went to the pool. We jumped in and swam for 20 minutes until another guest came up and said " you guys can't be in there, they told us to get out earlier because the PH is off and it's not safe." My wife almost screamed. We got out and I went into the office and was told the pool was closed. NO SIGN WHATSOEVER!!! I was very angry and told the guy to go put a sign out there before some other poor people jump in and potentially get sick. Remember....NO SIGN!!! The guy fumbled around trying to call the manager/owner and couldn't reach him. I met the manager in the lobby the next day only to have him act very defensive, to the point of getting loud with me. He's lucky I didn;t call the health department right there. Though our years of fun there prevented me from doing that. He said the guy was " too busy " to put the sign out. ( Meanwhile the day this happened the guy was sitting at the counter doing nothing at all. ) I let him know that this was extremely unacceptable and that we expected to be compensated for not being able to use the pool or hot tub during our stay. He could care less and offered nothing. Upon checkout a few days later, his wife says to me, " Ian, if you're going to come here next year only for the pool, we might not have it open after Labor Day " Come here just for the pool? That statement is what caused me to write this. Do this person think my wife and I drive to the coast of Maine to sit in a pool? Like there aren't pools anywhere else? We merely wanted to take a swim a few times over the course of our stay. The pool and hot tub are both advertised as open and available, yet we couldn't use them for a majority of they stay. ( The pool never, the hot tub the last night. ) However upon getting in the hot tub, we realized all the bubbles gathering on top were literally brown. We jumped right out, took showers, and left the next day after the ridiculous conversation with the female owner/manager. She has always been so nice but to insult a LONG TIME customer with the statement about coming to their hotel just for the pool, we're done. ANY decent business owner would have refunded us at least a nights stay or offered a discount. Even a discount for another stay. ANYTHING would have been better than what we got. NOTHING. The room had no book with phone numbers or local things to do. Do the right thing when you own a business. They could have given us a small discount and admitted they were in the wrong. We still would have went back. Unfortunately, they will NEVER see us again. Which is really a shame, as I have memories of staying here as a kid and having a blast. SUCH A...
Read moreI stayed at Ogunquit Tides on July 12, 2025, after booking and paying for a King room. When we arrived, we were given a room with two Queen beds instead. Later that night, the toilet began making an extremely loud, jackhammer-like noise for about 30secs- a couple mins. I have stomach issues and needed to use the bathroom multiple times, which made sleep nearly impossible for me and my partner due to the increasingly loud and extended noise which could be heard from all parts of the hotel room. I called the front desk for help, but no one answered—likely because we were told the office had closed at 11pm.
The next morning, I went to the office at 9:45am to request a refund. The senior manager, Nagina refused and said, “I will not be giving your money back. The reason I’m not giving your money back is because the rates are so low.” I explained that we did not receive the room we booked, and after showing her video evidence of the noise, she still refused a refund, insisting no one had ever complained about this before. She told me to email her the video, which I did. I also tried to show her the multiple other videos I have on my phone. She offered to have maintenance check the issue but again said there would be no refund.
My mother called shortly after and asked to speak with Nagina. Someone was put on the line and refused to give her name despite repeated requests, eventually saying her name was Lisa. She bizarrely claimed the loud noise in the video was coming from my car, not the toilet—despite the video clearly being filmed inside the bathroom. When questioned, “Lisa” accused my mom of putting words in her mouth and “Lisa” hung up on her.
We waited until 11:10am—no one from maintenance ever showed up. So far, no follow-up call or email came from the hotel, despite a promise to contact me.
The overall experience was unprofessional, dismissive, and unacceptable. We didn’t receive the room we paid for, were kept up all night by a maintenance issue, and were met with an extremely unprofessional response when we asked for basic accountability. I would not recommend...
