Unforgettable Lobster and Unmatched Kindness in Maine Our summer trip to Maine wouldn’t have been complete without a stop at The Lobster Pound, and it turned out to be one of our favorite dining experiences of the season. The whole setup is such a fun experience—my daughter loved being able to choose her own lobster straight from the tanks and have it prepared fresh. The lobster pasta was overflowing with tender, perfectly cooked chunks of lobster—no skimping here! I ordered the white fish, and it was easily one of the best seafood dishes I’ve had in years: light, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. What really makes this place shine, though, is the people. On our drive home to New Jersey, we realized my daughter had left her Beats headphones behind. One quick call later, and the team not only tracked them down but also mailed them back to us at no charge. That kind of thoughtfulness and care is rare, and we were so grateful—it turned a small disaster into another reason to rave about this spot. The wait wasn’t bad at all, and while you do wait, you can soak in the outdoor lobster-picking scene, which makes the time pass quickly. Between the fresh, delicious food, the warm atmosphere, and their incredible kindness, The Lobster Pound is the kind of place you’ll remember long after your trip ends. Maine was beautiful, but this meal (and the people who made it special) was the highlight.

We happened upon this gem purely by happenstance after staying within walking distance and having it recommend by the owner of our hotel. Prior to going I had read the negative reviews as I often focus on. Our first observation was that the parking lot was full on a Monday night off-season. I had noted that a couple of reviewers had suggested that the lobster bisque was bland and that was where we started our meal. The bisque was delightful. I had the lobster pie and the entire meal was very good. Other reviewers had noted that the vegetables were almost raw and over spiced. They weren’t heavily cooked but the way people actually service fresh vegetables nowadays and definitely not over spiced. Being an old fashioned clean your plate kind of guy I had no problem finishing the task and my barometer for exceptional food is the mashed potatoes. They were great and I could have finished a double helping. It’s hard to question whether the reviews from last year may have been due to different ownership but judging from the big crowd I would doubt there ever was a change in ownership or management style. I’ll add a picture of my check for reference. We are planning to come back tomorrow so I can try the non-seafood meatloaf dinner.

We decided to stop in Ogunquit on our way back home from a road trip to check out the town and to have dinner. PROS: Very busy, but did get seating almost right away, waitress was nice, clam chowder was good and the mixed drink was good.....but entree wise, maybe we should have just stuck to the steamed lobster! CONS: ordered a cheeseburger (for my 11 year old) asked for medium and that came out cooked well done. Another entree was baked Haddock with a Ritz Cracker topping, the topping was soggy...no crunchiness to it and it made bites with it have a sweet flavor (I know, this would be personal preference). I ordered the lobster roll (which I've ordered damn near everyday...in Provincetown MA, Bar Harbor ME and now Ogunquit). I like the classic style, but this was caked with mayo. You didn't taste any celery, or much of the lobster, all you tasted was mayo. The outside of the roll itself was very crunchy, while the inside was very soggy because of all the mayo. The sides it came with was coleslaw (good) and potato chips. Unfortunately for $38, I got a mayo roll, coleslaw and bagged chips.

I would give a negative star review if I could, due to character limits I’ll give the shortened version. Party of 5 one of which is 16 months old, told 25 minute wait brought in and sent back out to wait some more bc we have a toddler needing a high chair, they were notified about the need for the high chair when we checked the party in. Our server comes to our table to get drink orders she is very kind, when she brings the first couple of drinks out I place the order for my 16 month old pasta with a meatball. The rest of the drinks finally arrive and we’ve been sat about 25 minutes now we add a dozen steamers as an app and place our orders. Another 25 minutes pass out server brings us some warm rolls and butter thankfully bc no pasta to be found. My lobster comes out another 15 minutes after this, nothing else just my lobster from outside. Still no pasta another almost 20 minutes pass and the rest of my meal and everyone BUT my toddlers food comes out. I ask for a shift lead or someone to come talk with me to fix it, never even giving my poor waitress any grief bc that’s just unnecessary as someone dining out imo. Manager comes over, I start by saying I’m just trying to figure out what the hell’s happened here she immediately takes this demeaning and condescending tone with me telling me to calm down or we can talk by the front door of the dining floor. I asked her why she’s talking to me like that I don’t need to be spoken to like I’m a child I asked for you to be here so I can speak to you and you already are not letting me speak let me speak. She just apologizes for the delay like girl delay? I just got my kids pasta 3 minutes before you came over here my lobsters been here about a half hour now is cold and I just got my sides and one is wrong she says they ran out of green beans and this is what they had I asked why we weren’t asked if we wanted this as a substitute or if we wanted a different side. Just sorry that happened she’s brand new, now I’m actually upset bc if she’s brand new why did you guys seat her 7 tables including mine of parties of 4-6?? That’s terrible management and for you to come over here and have an attitude with me cause I’m bothered that yall messed up is wild. After speaking with that crass manager I legitimately was fighting tears at the table excused myself to the bathroom to cry and came back out. My grandmas stuffed sole was undercooked, my lobster had to be reheated none of us wanted the veggies they substituted for the green beans they ran out of and didn’t ask us if we wanted that or something else. It seems like this manager was more worried about shutting us up and taking as little off the bill as possible, girl we weren’t pressed about the $8 kids pasta or any other prices of anything just wanted decent service. At this same price point there’s at least 4 other places on the same strip that do the same foods just as well and don’t wanna damn near bully you over their mistakes. Spend your money literally anywhere else; to my server I hope you quit your job and get a better one with better management you deserve a perfectly made coffee every time you order one. To the manager I hope you have a flat tire every important event you need to get to, you deserve it. Learn to handle people who don’t care about money being taken off the bill but just wanted a good meal with their family properly. At first while waiting I was telling a few friends of mine we should come here, now idk that I’ll ever return. That manager should be let go and if not yall need to retrain her bc her customer service is horrendous, ill spend the next month at minimum telling everyone of my nail clients and anyone else I chat with how horrible this place was. As a former server upper management and ownership should be ashamed to employ this...

Disappointing Experience and Unacceptable Behavior from Manager I rarely write negative reviews, but my recent visit to Ogunquit Lobster Pound left me deeply disappointed and frustrated. From the moment I walked in, the manager Taylors treatment was unprofessional and rude. I was with my well-trained service dog, who remained calm and behaved throughout the meal. Despite explaining that he is a service animal, the manager immediately became hostile when she asked to pet him. Things escalated quickly after that. The manager repeatedly accused me of feeding my dog at the table and claimed he was bothering other customers—neither of which were true. My dog is very well-behaved, and we've had no issues dining with him at other establishments. It was clear that I was being unfairly targeted, and it felt like discrimination, particularly because I don't have a visible disability. This kind of treatment is not only wrong but illegal. To make matters worse, there were kids running around the restaurant like it was a playground, causing far more disruption than my service dog ever could. Despite this, the manager focused her attention solely on harassing me about my dog, which only made the situation more uncomfortable. I’ve eaten at far finer establishments than Ogunquit Lobster Pound, and I’ve never encountered such hostility or poor treatment. This was, without a doubt, the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. My boyfriend and I dine out several times a week, and this experience completely ruined what should have been an enjoyable evening. I sincerely hope the management at Ogunquit Lobster Pound takes this issue seriously and reevaluates how they treat customers with service animals. I would strongly advise anyone with a disability...

A True Maine Classic – An Unforgettable Lobster Experience!

If you’re looking for authentic Maine flavor, outstanding service, and a dining experience that feels both classic and personal, look no further than this incredible lobster restaurant. From the moment you walk in, you’re greeted by warm smiles and the kind of hospitality you only get at a true local favorite—and that starts at the top with Bill, the owner. He treats every guest like family, and it shows in every detail of the place.

The restaurant has a vintage maritime décor that brings you straight back to old coastal Maine—weathered wood, nautical accents, and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere that feels both nostalgic and genuine. It’s the kind of place where stories are told and memories are made.

Now let’s talk lobster—because this is where they truly shine. You actually get to choose your own lobster from their fresh tanks, and moments later it’s steamed to perfection and served exactly the way it should be—sweet, tender, and unbelievably fresh. Every bite reminds you why Maine is famous for this stuff. The sides and accompaniments were top-notch as well, but the lobster steals the show as it should.

The service is outstanding—attentive without being intrusive, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. You can tell they take pride in what they do, and it makes the entire meal that much more enjoyable.

If you want authentic Maine done right, this place is a must-visit. Traditional, delicious, honest—and run by someone who truly cares. Bill and his team have created something special here. I’ll absolutely be...
