We arrived a few minutes before the 7am opening and waited on a bench outside. We were greeted at the door by a "CASH ONLY-ATM INSIDE" sign and should have left then. We felt pressured and rushed by our less than personable waiter to order. This was a process made SO much more difficult by the glaring lack of a kids menu despite the fact that every other table had children present!! You have highchairs but no kids menu! Some of us in our party drink coffee like it is our job ....however our coffee was disgustingly strong and bitter, no amount of creamer could fix it. Doing our best to order for two young girls in our party we ordered each girl an english muffin with a side of bacon. The english muffins were brought to the table on one single plate and we had to request a second plate so each child could have their own breakfast. A breakfast burrito was to have included a side of sour cream and salsa but it only arrived with salsa. The menu stated 'homemade muffins'. When we inquired about muffin flavors the only muffin choice was blueberry. We ordered one and despite it not saying so, it arrived sliced and deeply grilled and greasy. Another person's food was not brought to table at all and was an afterthought by the waiter only after he realized he had nothing to set down in front of my husband. When he finally did come back with his plate he was literally singing, no apology or here you go sorry for the wait. AND it was not even correct, despite having ordered over-hard eggs he was given scrambled eggs that looked as if they had been sitting out in the cold for 15 minutes! Some things were dripping in butter, others were bone dry. The home fries were soggy and limp, the bacon was inconsistent and raw in spots. We haven't been to "The Egg & I" in years and as far as I am concerned they can change their name to "The Egg & Anybody Else But Me" !! A few more centuries will have to elapse before we forget and try again! Do yourself, your family and your wallet a favor and just go to Dunkin'...
Read moreWe came in Saturday before main season started. We were seated right away. We placed our order for 2 adults and 2 kids at 11am. We got coffee (no refills), was not offered water after our ordered juice cups were empty. At 11.25 I asked our server about our food and he just leaned over to look at the kitchen through the door window if our order is done. He said " we are very busy!" which was not true. I want to mention that he came over to me around 11.15am to ask what was our son's order of 2 pancakes +bacon +toast. He seem to scramble around and ran into kitchen. Now almost 15more min later there were actually few empty tables at the dinner as it was close to 11.30. Server disappeared into kitchen and it took him about 5 more minutes when he came back with all of our food. He didn't bother to give us 4 sets of silverware. I took a pair from table next to us. we did have food but only 2 pairs of tableware for 4 people and I was not willing to wait for our server to bring us utensils. Food was delicious! Alaskan Benedict and also hash was super tasty. I had to ask "host" that seated us for water. He promptly brought it for us. This youNg man aka the host saved the day for me. Our main server was very unfocused and didn't care how long was our wait. He also didn't care to explain why it took that long to receive our order when the dinner was half empty. I won't be...
Read moreI recently dined at The Egg & I in Ogunquit, Maine, and I can confidently say it was a delightful experience from start to finish. The moment I walked in, the warm and welcoming atmosphere set the tone for what was to come.
First and foremost, let's talk about the food. The hash was simply out of this world – perfectly seasoned and cooked to crispy perfection. The pancakes were light, fluffy, and topped with just the right amount of syrup. Every bite was a heavenly delight for my taste buds. It's clear that the chefs here take immense pride in their craft, and it truly shows in every dish.
But what truly sets The Egg & I apart is the exceptional customer service. The staff was attentive, friendly, and went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was memorable. our coffee cups stayed full through our dining experience.
Whether you're a local looking for your new breakfast spot or a tourist exploring Ogunquit, The Egg a & I is an absolute gem that deserves a visit. The combination of phenomenal food and top-notch service easily earns it a well-deserved 5-star rating. I can't wait to return and savor more of their...
