This store has amazing work from many different artists. Just don't ask who they are!! I was planning to purchase a glass sculpture, and I asked who the artist was. Apparently, it is a huge faux pas to ask for any information about the art you are looking to buy! I was met with a sneer, and a look of disgust. "They are from Canada." He then abruptly turned and walked into the back room, muttering, "we never post our artists." Came back, let me know the name, and as I thanked him, I was met with a very terse "yeah." The takeaway here is that if you are wearing jeans and a hoodie on a rainy, cool day, don't go in here! If you don't actually look like you have the money to buy things here, I guess you must not. (Spoiler: I do. And it's really sketchy to not credit the artists). So now, instead of patronizing a small local business, I'm going directly to the artist. Thanks for the etiquette lesson... I guess?
Edited following reply: how absolute DARE I use my phone to jot down the name of the artist that I was interested in learning more about!! Would a pad and paper been more acceptable to you?
Also, you brought up the first rude employee... I decided to give her a pass, as she appeared to be working at the jewelry area, and might know more about that part of the store. But... I have literally gotten better service at a Walmart asking where the vaccuum cleaners are located. Since she didn't volunteer the information, I asked someone else. I hope the artists that sell their pieces in your store know about your reluctance to credit them...
Read moreGreat looking store. Great products at a wide range of prices. I would love to shop here. So why the 1 star review? The absolute worst employees I've encountered at a retail location in a very long time. I'm including Target, etc when I say this. The first employee we encountered was sarcastic and voiced the fact that she didn't want to be there and didn't care what time they closed because she was out at 6. The 2nd employee we encountered (possibly a manager or owner as she was teaching another employee stock) was asked a simple question about some coasters we were considering purchasing. The woman did not even look in our direction but instead gave a very short and terse answer and proceeded in what she was doing prior to us approaching, without any offer of further assistance. Unfortunate as at this point I had approximately $300 worth of items I was planning on purchasing and because of the extremely poor customer service...
Read moreThis is a very unique shop. An artist owns the shop and sells other works from artists all over. When I've looked I've only ever seen things that are made in the USA. The art comes in the form of beautiful jewelry, which I have a nice collection of now; cleverly worded / tongue in cheek coasters, wooden signs, etc. Metal work, blown glass, statement piece watches, etc. I have been going there for years and have greatly appreciated the help and second opinions from the staff there. Definitely not a place for food / beverage and make sure to allow yourself plenty of time to look and laugh at all the fun things. I get lots of compliments on my modern and edgy choices from here. Definitely not junk. I've bumped into another of their stores in Freeport and Portland. They are each a bit different....
