Everything met expectations on our arrival. The location is excellent, within walking distance of the Marginal Way, Perkins Cove, Ogunquit Center and lots of good restaurants if you like to walk as much as we do. The main building of the historic Inn is impressive and the staff was helpful during check-in and our room was as expected thanks to our previous conversations with Ashley. We selected a room in the Shorebirds building mainly because of the private balcony and we were happy with it. The welcome set-up with artistically folded towels and flower petals was a very nice touch.
We got a chance to check out an upgraded room in the main building and appreciated the historic vibe there and beautiful appointments. We'll probably select an upper floor room at the Inn on our next trip. The continental breakfast included during our stay was pretty good with hard-boiled eggs, cereals, yogurts, fresh fruit, coffee, tea, juices and fresh muffins and breads. We took advantage of the breakfast most mornings. The gentleman that took care of the breakfast room was a real sweetheart and did a great job.
The lobby was a great space for hanging out or enjoying breakfast and the wrap-around porch was beautiful for the same purposes. Parking was an issue on some evenings when the property was full, but we always found a space. We didn't have a chance to use the pool or fire pit during our stay, but others were having a great time and the pool area was very well maintained every morning.
We really enjoyed our stay and there were only a few minor issues. There is limited availability of staff after hours to resolve housekeeping and other questions but those that responded gave us options to pick up towels, etc. There was some evidence of wear and tear around the property, like some trim and decking needing fresh paint, all very minor, issue but worth a mention.
Our highlight was the welcoming spirit and the thoughtful care we received from Ashley, the assistant manager, who made us feel like family every day. What a difference she makes! She's a great host and a very authentic and caring person. We'll remember her...
Read moreLocation is absolutely the best in the heart of town. Close access to marginal way, short walk to beach, shops and restaurants. The hotel is historically beautiful. However it is clearly poorly managed. Room was adequate at best. Fairly quiet. Wonky wifi service, bed was OK. Linens on the bed were low budget. Bathroom was ridiculous. Our room had a broken cracked cruddy old toilet seat. I've seen better in campground bathhouses. Shower water pressure was poor, shower had no lighting so you showered in the dark. Towels and washcloths were stained and worn looking. Bathroom floor was a cheap pergo floor, poorly installed at that. Chipped paint all over. Carpeting in room, halls, stairwell was stained all over. In our room there was a painting on the wall partially behind the dresser. Mini fridge door would hit the sloped floor so it could not be opened fully. Dresser had drink ring stains and spills on the glass top. The exterior of the property could be beautiful, but was poorly maintained. Parking was odd, poorly marked and poorly lit for evening navigating. This place touts itself as a premium hotel. It could be but not the way it's run. Staff were not very eager to help, if you could find someone. I walked by the front desk several times hearing a nonstop ringing phone. The attendant was out on the porch on a dinner break. If you enjoy feeling welcomed and spoiled a bit, look elsewhere. The staff make you feel invisible or worse like youre bothering them. The location can't be beat. Everything else here is low budget. Actually, we have stayed at many other places in town which were less expensive and run far better. Even their own sister hotel, a bit farther out of town was far superior in the care and staff friendliness. Maybe they can get some proper staffing and or management to correct the list of issues. Just because they're adjacent to luxury resorts in the prime location doesn't mean they can just assume they're premium. They've got a lot of work to do if they want people...
Read moreThis hotel has many things you should know in advance. We asked for a refund to leave the day we got there it was so bad upon getting to the room and was told that only managers can do that but no manager available, EVER any time we or Expedia contacted them. Let's start with the floors are so slanted you will be dizzy. Our bed was in a slant, the head part was down lower you had to use pillows to prop you up to be level. The floors had stains on the carpet, the couch had dirt spots on it, the sink was never cleaned while we was there, the wash clothes were not replaced a few days. There was maid service they simply made the bed, took the trash out and folded our towels back on rack. The first day our door was left open by the maid! The walls are so paper thin you hear everything anyone says in the rooms next to you or in hallway. There is a large gap on the bottom of the door because the floor is so slanted. The man next to us called all 10 grand kids while we was there and he had trouble with his lock. How do we know you ask, because we heard everything! When people above you walk its sounds like they are stomping. The blinds don't keep the light out so if the noises don't wake you by 530 the sun starts to. I'm an earlier riser thankfully but would have liked to slept in a bit past 6. The ac only works sometimes, even after they say it was fixed. The filter in the ac was so unbelievably dirt. And only know after posting a not glowing review have we heard from a manager and they said they show record we was offered a refund if we checked out. Never was that conveyed to us or Expedia. In fact each time we asked we was told no refunds must speak to manager, that never...
