I have had mostly good experiences with Hampton Inns, but this stay has me questioning whether I will stay in any Hilton properties in the future. Hamptons have been my go-to for business travel to smaller cities because previously they have been consistent and a good value.||Upon arrival in room 331, I noticed an odd smell - somewhat like burning plastic or some weird cleaning chemical. I figured maybe a previous guest had some sort of mishap with the coffee maker or something. Over the next 2 days, I suffered from massive headaches that spoiled my Tucson visit. ||When I returned to my room the afternoon after the second night, the smell in the room was considerably present, and I made the connection that perhaps this is what was making me sick. I called down to the front desk and spoke with the manager on duty about it. She came up and observed the smell in the room - at first telling me that the AC unit "makes that smell when it's hot outside and working really hard." She then told me that she was going to check the room next door. I thought perhaps she was checking to see about moving me next door. Instead, when we went into that room (329) the acrid fumes were overpowering. She stated that the problem was the AC unit in THAT room, and that the fumes were coming into my room under the door that connected the two.||I asked to be moved to another room, far away from 329/331. I was moved to 308, on the other side of the hotel. That room was fine, and I had no issues with feeling a headache/sick the final night/morning of checkout. This gives me concern about what exactly I may have been breathing in the other room. ||Upon checkout, I told the other manager on duty about my experience. I told her about the potential fire/health hazard that might be happening. She apologized and said she would "add some points" to my account. I didn't know what to say to that. A coupon???||The next day I received an email survey from Hilton, and related my experience/concerns. It was the weekend, so I could not call Hilton corporate to talk to someone about it. I received an email response, saying that Hilton was aware that someone at the hotel had been in touch with me about the situation, and they hope I was satisfied with the resolution. What?? I emailed back, saying that I had NOT been contacted, and that I wanted to talk to someone about it. The reply that I received was basically "we're sorry about the bad smell. Here are some Hilton points." This left me feeling that the company was really diminishing my concerns, and giving me a paltry discount toward spending more with them in the future was just not the right way to handle it. I called this morning and asked to speak with someone in the CEO's office, and was given an email address. I am following up with that.||So, my piece of advice that I will take myself in the future - if you smell something odd in your hotel room, ask to move to another room immediately.||Aside from this experience, the hotel itself is a somewhat dated property. The rooms are clean but old fashioned. The lobby and breakfast area are fine and what you would expect from a Hampton. The hotel sits between another hotel and a gas station/dairy queen. When I stopped at the gas station there were two homeless men gathering scrap metal in the parking lot.||In retrospect, I wish I'd booked a room at one of the nearby...
Read moreI was looking for a decent hotel at a relatively reasonable rate in town. Me and the girl I was seeing wanted to spend a quiet night together somewhere away from our surroundings. The circumstances at the time called for such measures. Hampton inn came up on travelocity with the best rates given the high reviews. And my girl lives at Casas Adobes which was literally down the street. Perfect! Oracle at this time is being paved and I'm driving a motorcycle with a female on the back. Needless to say it's a challenge. But everything is relatively close by. Groceries, a couple restaurants, Dairy Queen etc. I arrived and the lady at the front desk was courteous. Checked on and went to my room on the top floor. It was okay, being that the discounted rate came to about $145, not terrible but not great. A small room with a desk and Queen size bed. Right away I noticed the lighting was dim with all the lights on, but there wasn't enough to illuminate the area, just 2 dimly lit lamps. Bathroom was nice! A decent size room that had a shower and a bath tub. Everything appeared very clean and it was very quiet throughout the stay. I the morning were given a free breakfast. It was self serve, eggs, bacon, sausage and home fries. Several types of juices and coffee. It was pretty good. Check out came and off we went. So overall in very satisfyed. I think $145 as a discount for a room of that size was a bit on the high side. The lighting definitely needs a little attention I think, parking was no problem, I always found a spot right near the entrance. I recommend this place to anyone! Try getting a better deal though :)
