This trip had its challenges. Some of it was Marriott's fault, but all of the staff members were more than accommodating. Everyone I interacted with was wonderful.
The bathtub shower was a horrible design mess. Marriott installed glass doors on the tub with the stationary glass next to the tub controls. You had to climb in the tub to turn the water on. There was a door to the toilet & tub that wouldn't even open all the way, no room, but that door needs to be removed. To climb in the tub to turn on the water, you had to close that door to get to the opening of the tub. Mark the maintenance manager explained all to me the next day and adjusted the slider to it's best opening. The night I arrived, the toilet wouldn't stop running, so a maintenance man came in and replaced the toilet's inner parts. The night before I left, the smoke alarm started chirping at 2:30 am and chirped continuously every 30 seconds throughout the night. I contacted the desk around 9:00 and maintenance was tied up for a bit. Around 10:30 am I called again, having had enough of the chirping. Ying, the desk clerk, brought a ladder down and attempted to change the battery herself, but Mark came in and saved the day. I actually stayed an additional night, 2/28 and in the middle of the night when I got up to use the restroom, a huge cockroach was running around my bathroom. Gross! I threw a towel over it and tried to mash it but slept lightly the rest of the night thinking of that creature in my room. When I got up the next morning, he was upside down dead. Other than the most ridiculous design to the bathtub/glass enclosure, everyone I talked to was wonderful and tried very hard to make things right. I was leaving on 3/1, so I didn't mention the cockroach. I have stayed over 700 nights in Marriott properties and have never encountered this many issues in a week's time. That design of the glass tub doors apparently is a problem for guests, housekeeping, etc. Too small an area, should put a curtain back, take off that door to the toilet/tub tiny room or use a sliding glass door that...
Read moreThis was hands-down the best experience I have ever had at a hotel. My sister and I came in in the middle of the week to be with my grandmother who was living out her last days in a hotel down the road. I talked to the front-desk and they were so friendly I ended up telling them about my situation. They immediately lowered our room rate - from an already competitive price. Further, we had dogs with us and they were very understanding, explaining to just let them know when we left with the dogs for housekeeping to come.
My grandmother lasted longer than we thought, and we found that we were gonna be staying longer than we thought. Unfortunately, it was Parent's Weekend at U of A so TownePlace didn't have any rooms available for the weekend, so the front desk told us they would check at neighboring hotels for any availability.
The next morning at breakfast, they found us and told us they'd switched some things around, and we could stay IN OUR ROOM, through the weekend, AT THE SAME RATE. Mind you, for Parent's Weekend the rate jumped to $200/night, so we were staying for less than half the price.
Needless to say, by now we had worked up quite a rapport with the staff, who were simply wonderful. After my grandmother passed, I mentioned it to the front desk. The next we found roses left under our name.
More simply, the rooms are clean and while on the small side, fit three of us and our two dogs just fine. The complimentary breakfast is completely adequate for what it is. But the staff is what sets this hotel apart. One night we were swimming when closing time came, and the night guard let us have an extra half hour (just showing that it wasn't one staff-person, the goodwill is present throughout).
On a side note, Ashley, you are an angel. Thanks so much for helping to make an unbearable stay just a bit...
Read moreWe were scheduled for a 5 night stay to visit family. Hubby got sick and it was a 18 or 19 night stay with him in the hospital for 6 nights in the middle of all that time. We had to change rooms due to the extension and they were most accommodating - giving us an ADA room that he needed post hospital. The staff was so amazingly helpful, friendly, kind, understanding and went out of their way to make everything a little easier. He came out of the hospital on an almost salt free diet, so having the full kitchen was a HUGE help. I was able to get a full hot breakfast from the hotel each morning then prepare lunch and dinner in the room and stay in the diet restriction. If we had to eat out, this would have been impossible. We appreciate so so so many things about this hotel, the management and the staff. For instance: plentiful pillows!!, Hot breakfast with variety, coffee 24/7, fresh fruit 24/7, fresh cooked cookies each afternoon !!!, great housekeeping staff, comfortable beds, comfortable lounge chairs at the pool, a beautiful pool, and last but not least - padded carpet in the rooms. Also we felt very safe there, which I really appreciated while he was in the hospital as I was coming back late each evening. Christina, Andrew and Jason are great and wonderful, and we wish to commend them all for having an excellent facility and being so...
