I wanted to love Pacific Grove Inn. As a frequent visitor to Pacific Grove, having stayed in several other inns and B&Bs, this one had fallen under my radar until now. I wish now that it had remained so. The Issues: We were assigned a suite in the Tuttle House-the little house behind the main one. That in itself did not give us concern, as several other inns use multiple ‘homes’ for their B&B business. Knowing what I know now, however, would definitely give me pause. The only positives we could find were the location and the fact that it was clean and the housekeepers were awesome!
The concerning issues:
*The property is very poorly maintained. There are stains and some holes in the walls, and unprepared visible water damage (mold?) in the bathroom.
*Simple easy to fix items have been long neglected. Caulk is worn and missing around the sink, water mineral stains are around the fixtures, and the towel bar is missing but one of the two bar holders still hangs there on the wall for whatever reason.
*there are missing tiles in the bathroom
*You literally hear everything in all the other rooms. Every conversation, sneeze, cough, toilet flush…you get the picture.
*They have put great energy into revamping the main house and if you are “lucky” to have a room there you are treated to wine and cheese in the afternoon and a full breakfast in the morning. Those staying in the Tuttle House, were explicitly told we were not included in this by the host.
*Can we talk about the bathtub/bathmat situation? The tub is short…like toddler short. The bathmat is about 6 feet long. It has to be wadded up to be used. It’s understandable you may have an old tub/shower situation, but get a dang bathmat that fits the tub for goodness sake. This was a ridiculous way to save a buck, and gave the impression of not caring.
Parking is a nightmare! We were in a small car- still a tight squeeze. This was made even more challenging by large trucks who squeezed in. At times we had to park on the street as there was no spot left. Perhaps consider a way to provide at least one parking spot per room, especially given the time constraints for street parking.
The ad says you will have access to a microwave and refrigerator in the main house. This is a small dorm style fridge in the office, not a ‘real’ refrigerator. Access to the main kitchen is often limited due to their breakfast/wine hours so not really something to count on. If the plan is to use a dorm fridge anyway, I’d suggest they invest in one and a small microwave per room in the other house.
Again we are frequent visitors to Pacific Grove and have stayed in several inns and B&Bs there. This will be a one and done...

I ordered the single room with my partner online and so we went to the front of the door and no one was there but camera with a ringer and telephone. We rung the door after some back and forth we eventually left and we're unable to enter the building.
When I rang the door someone on the speaker answered and told me to pick up the phone that was next to the camera and wait for a call. After getting the call with the front door phone I was to confirm my registration with the Inn by giving the information I submitted online, I was able to confirm my name but there was a mix up with the phone number and for some reason the phone number I registered didn't show on their end so they said they needed to look at my credit card through the virtual camera at the front (I paid online with my credit card). At first I was hesitant and asked if I could show someone in person at the property what I saw on my phone, (that being the registration for the inn). However no one was there and so I offered to show my Photo ID instead to the camera to verify who I am to offer them a bit more security and also because I didn't want to just waive my credit card around a camera, but they said they couldn't do that to let me in. Eventually I showed them my credit card only showing the last four digits of the card and my finger covering the rest of the digits, I did this because on their end they can see the last four digits so I thought it would be enough. Once I did this though they said I needed to remove my finger covering the rest of the credit card numbers, which I found really weird considering how I was able to confirm my name which matched on their end from the website registration and I was able to confirm the last four digits of my credit card information matching the website, with my card also showing the same the name as the website registration, but the only thing that didn't match was the phone number and I felt really uncomfortable with the idea of just showing my entire credit card information on camera. Eventually I asked the person on the phone if I could have a refund and they said yes I could because it was within the 48 hour cancellation time frame but as I went to cancel my registration it said it would be non refundable. So the person on the phone either lied to me or was unaware of this which lead me to distrust the inn even more. We Ultimately a really bothersome and unwelcoming experience and felt very scam like, would...
Read moreFirst of all: location is brilliant! Right next to Pacific Grove City Hall and police department. Wide quiet streets. Deers walking freely around the neighborhood. 20 min walk to Aquarium, Cannery Row, 10 min walk to the ocean and beautiful Lovers' Point and many different cousines (from breakfast to late dinners). We spent weekend there in the middle of the summer. And our main goal was visiting Aquarium with kids. This hotel location fit great. We arrived around 10pm and realized that parking spots were extremely narrow. There were only 2 spots available at the far end of the parking. I saw some cars parked on the street. Most likely drivers didn't risk to park there. But we could squeeze in safely. The spots are so narrow that you can't open the door even for 1 car. But we weren't going to take our car that weekend so it was easier to park it and didn't move anymore. The check in process was not very comfortable. Definitely, welcoming alive person could make it much smoother. We and kid were tired and I'd prefer to go to bed instead of calling and waiting for all instructions by phone. Fortunately they emailed detailes like passwords and so. The Victorian styled hall is amazing. Like big dining room with fireplace and furniture with that antique spirit. Definitely worth to make some pictures. Finally we got our room details. It was a basement room with standart windows on ground level. We expected 3 beds but actually got 3 rooms in one. They could definitely fit a small kitchen there but there were no kitchen amenities inside. But guests may use refrigirator and microwave in the common area near the entrance door. The room was equipped by AC and we did notice portable air ones. But just didn't pay attention. There was 68F inside and only in the morning we understood that AC didn't work. Like constantly. Nobody informed us. And only in the morning after I messaged staff they told us to use portable instead. The room was a little bit outdated with squeaky noisy beds but clean. Ask about beds if you are planning romantic nights. LOL. The thing I didn't like was refillable locked toiletries in the bathroom. Indifidual ones would be much healthier from hygienic point. Overall still pretty good impression. At least, good balance between location and price. But only 4 stars for heaters and...
