I recently had the pleasure of staying at The Charles Pacific Grove, and I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for the wonderful experience. Your inn truly is a magical place along the California coast. From the moment I arrived, I felt incredibly welcomed. The rainbow heart sticker on the door, followed by Ian's warm greeting before I even entered my access code, immediately set a comfortable and inviting tone. Ian and Kiersten were exceptional hosts throughout my stay, making me feel right at home. Their recommendations for local activities and dining were invaluable, and the evening hors d'oeuvres and refreshments were a delightful touch. In the mornings, their friendly smiles and the wonderful breakfast spread were the perfect start to each day. I also had the distinct pleasure of meeting Charles, the visionary behind The Charles Pacific Grove. Our conversation about the inspiration behind the inn and its welcoming ethos was truly impactful, especially given the current climate. His commitment to creating an inclusive guest experience, coupled with his deep roots in Pacific Grove and extensive design background, is evident in every detail of the inn. It was inspiring to see someone so engaged and actively contributing to a changing world, and I truly admire his approach to creating a comforting and beautiful space. The Charles Pacific Grove has set a new standard for hospitality, and I believe major hotel chains should take note. The level of service and the welcoming atmosphere you've created are truly exceptional.

We absolutely adored this bed and breakfast! The old fashion theme and decor was warm and cozy throughout. I loved how the common areas matched our bedroom as well. We appreciated the complimentary breakfast (the quiche was DELICIOUS) and we also enjoyed the afternoon cheese and wine. We had the basement room #100 and it was quite spacious and for those who have kids it even had a cute bunk bed. The benefit of the basement room as well is it kept cool throughout our entire stay even when it was 80 degrees outside the thermostat said it was 66-68. The only thing I do not know is I think there isn’t any sort of AC in the rooms as the thermostat itself didn’t work however it was cool enough that it we didnt even need AC (end of September). The area itself is very safe and right by a police station so if you have a luxury vehicle and need to use street parking then I wouldn’t stress too much about it. The parking lot during the week was pretty open for the most part. There was only one night where we needed to use street parking because we came back late and there was no issues with it. The area is also walkable to the lovers point area and there were a ton of food options. Very easy to get around overall. We really enjoyed our stay and will keep this place in mind for future mid-week weekends!

It’s safe to say The Charles has ruined me for any other hotel/stay because it was just that incredible. It was by chance that we booked this stay during their grand opening weekend, and I’m so glad we did. We were immediately welcomed in and treated with such respect. The aesthetic of the property was immaculate, the history was intriguing and the overall experience was one I will cherish forever. Meeting Charles, the designer (and Sophie!), was so special. Hearing him speak about the property, what it means to him and how it is truly meant to be a safe and inclusive space for all was inspiring. Ian and Kirsten, the innkeepers, were so sweet and offered exceptional service. This unique experience included breakfast, an afternoon social, fresh baked cookies in the evening and an unforgettable environment. From the curtains to the woodwork, the artwork on the walls, to every curated piece of decor and beyond, everything was intentional and meant to enhance your experience. The only thing that would have made this stay more enjoyable was if we could have stayed longer! We will definitely be back!

I truly had high hopes for this new bed and breakfast in lovely Pacific Grove. The pictures and reviews are what made my decision to stay here, however, I was very disappointed in our experience. Let me preface that we frequent bed and breakfast inns because of the warmth, intimate and welcoming nature of the establishments. During our stay, they just hired a new innkeeper who was not friendly, helpful, nor welcoming at all. I observed her to be on her phone more times than not. When I asked if I could have some bottled water, she said "We don't carry that". Then I pulled out my phone and pointed out on the website that the Acqua Panna Artisan Water should be complimentary. She immediately grabbed my phone out of my hands, without my permission btw, and started reading the amenities back to me out loud and then followed with "nope we still don't have any". Wow!!! I couldn't believe how rude she was. Ok, well I then asked for some coffee because we were told upon check in that coffee would be available at 7am. It was 7:20am, but still no coffee and that we would have to wait until 8am. I further tried to have idle chit chat with her about the home, location, etc.., but again, she kept looking at her phone uninterested in me and the other guests loitering around the living room. Dear owners, I urge you to please train your new innkeepers to be more engaging, polite, and more helpful with your guests. Your B&B has potential and it saddens me to write this review, however, I feel strongly to let others know of our poor experience. Other problems we encountered - few tight parking spaces; loud nonstop music at night filtering downstairs so loud it bothered our sleep; peeling wallpaper in shower (King room); bathroom soap dispensers not working ( I gave up and just opened them and did my best); cookies at night need to cool down before serving because they were all stuck together as if they were hastily made. Some tips - as lovely as the vases/antiques are on the dining room table, they're in the way of conversation when others are eating. Also, a printout of the history of the mansion would be nice. Again, we loved the decor of the mansion, kudos to the designer! However, you need to hire the right people to interface and welcome your guests properly. That truly is the bottom line no matter how beautiful your place is - it's how you...
