Had another wonderful stay at this lovely Inn. My wife and I arrived early after a trip down from N. California. We were told it was fine to eat lunch in the dining room by Leah. Upon finishing, we let her know we were checking in. She was warm and friendly. She let us know our room would be ready in about twenty minutes if we would like to wait, or we could go, and we would receive a text when the room was ready. We waited and when the room was ready, we got everything and got checked in. |Upon, getting settled in, I did notice a stain on the rug that I wanted the desk to be aware of due to the incidentals charge that all hotels take. I was greeted by Ivy who was warm and friendly and very apologetic. I showed her a picture of the stain and she apologized again and asked if I would send the picture to the text I would receive asking about my stay so far. I did. I then received a call from Ivy offering to upgrade our room to a different room that offered more amenities. We declined, because we really liked the room we had. |She was really going out of her way to make things right, for a small stain that didn't really hinder the experience of the stay. |The room was nice. The bed was comfortable, the lamps had outlets in them for plugs but not charging stations like USB's that I noticed. This did not bother me as I forgot mine anyway and had to go buy one. The tv was good size and the room was quiet.|The room was right outside the dining and check-in area. I thought this might be a problem when it came to noise. However, the room has a double door entrance. Once the first door closes and then the second, you really don't hear anything. It was very pleasant.|The bathroom is very nice, but some may find it a little outdated. There were a couple of cracked tiles. However, everything works, and you got a very hot shower, which is not something you get all the time at hotels. |The room had a little sitting area right off the room that was private and allowed you to see the front of the goings on Lighthouse. It is perfect for people watching and still be far enough back to be private.|Breakfast was another hit at the Gosby. Day one was Crepes with Blueberry topping and a scrumptious filling, quiche, three different cereals, breads and bagels, homemade mucel, fruit, and more.|Day two, was and egg scramble with cheese and pancakes. Then there were the many of the items from day one which are the staples. But they change out items like various breakfast cakes for breads or muffins. |Pana was always running in and out refilling everything as it was running out. So don't worry about not getting your fill. This is a staff that knows how to run a kitchen and keep gusts happy.|Also, if you have dietary restrictions or special needs like my wife does. Let them know. They will assist you as best as they can. My wife had egg white scrambles with no butter or oil. They were happy to make it for her. |All day long, you can enjoy flavored waters, diet Coke, Coke, or Sprite and cookies, from the refrigerator in the dining room.|In the evening the Wine and cheese with some fruit is wonderful. There was also salami on the tray to compliment the cheese. Also, the cookies. Yum!|There are many interesting places to see around Pacific Grove. The Natural History Museum is a favorite of ours. The antique stores and galleries. The town itself however does keep interesting hours. Sundays, shops open late and close early, if open at all. Weekdays, there is not a lot open late. |Cannery Row is not a very far walk away and the walk along Ocean Avenue is wonderful. Here you can enjoy the more tourist adventure you are looking for. |There is the Monterey Bay Aquarium, and the historical Doc Ricketts lab. The Antique mall is another interesting place to check out.|The Gosby puts you in a unique location to do many things and we find is still affordable luxury. |I just hope it can stay that way. We really love this inn...

Read moreMy husband and 17 month old son stayed at the Gosby House Inn for two nights while visiting the Monterey/Carmel coast for a wedding. We stayed in Flora's Room (#14) which is right next to the office. While the room was small, it still fit a pack and play for our toddler with room for us to move around. Since the room was on the cozy side, we really didn't want to spend that much time in the room since we felt cramped after awhile. The bed was only okay and both my husband and I didn't sleep well the first night (after removing the heavy blanket, we slept better the following night.) My son slept fine in his pack and play. We also brought our own white noise machine as other reviews complained about noise in that room, but it seemed fine (compared to the room that is right next to the kitchen and dining area.)
The main incident that really soured our experience with the Gosby House Inn was on our first morning at breakfast. Everything was going fine and the management gave us a booster seat so that our son could sit at the table. Once that chair was secure, I started making myself and my son plate of food. As I gathered my food, the management came up to me and spoke in a hushed tone saying "We are so sorry but a guest has complained about your son so perhaps you can eat breakfast in your room." I was taken aback as my son WASN'T CRYING, WASN'T MELTING DOWN nor was he even shouting. He was just talking normal baby talk. We relented and ate our breakfast in our room. Once I was able to gather myself and realize what happened, I was extremely upset. First at the RUDE entitled customer who couldn't even confront me personally and had to get the management involved. And secondly, I was very upset at the management, even though they seemed visibly uncomfortable at having to tell my family to leave the dining room and apologized for the situation. At the end of the day, they still sided with the rude customer and let that grumpy woman have her way. The rest of the weekend I felt completely unwelcome at the inn, eyeing everyone and wondering if they were the ones who hated children.
The next morning, the management told us that the rude guest was still there so we opted to feed our son in our room yet again to avoid conflict. BUT while my husband and I took turns eating in the dining room, I noticed another family with two children, one a few months older than my son, dining in the breakfast area. This child was making just as much noise if not more than my son the previous morning. But no one told them to leave.
The whole situation left me disappointed with my experience at Gosby House Inn. Yes, the management offered an olive branch in the form of a teddy bear for my son, but the damage had already been done. For all it's historic charm and great location within Pacific Grove, we will not be returning...
