I'm conflicted in writing this review because the owner is a very nice person and the rooms and pool areas are delightful, but I think it is mis-advertised in some respects. There is no bar, as they have applied for a liquor license (posted on March 4). I can't understand how people have written reviews about having bar service. I also feel this complex is being managed more like a VRBO or large Airbnb than a true hotel. Outside of the limited check-in hours, there are no staff on site. If you have any kind of issue you may be out of luck. I had a problem with my HVAC and the phone numbers provided just went to voicemail and my call was not returned. Eventually I found another guest at the pool area who had David's personal number. After about 45 minutes he did arrive to help me and it was a simple fix. His explanation for not answering the other phone calls was "he was at dinner". Two guests spoke to me in the parking lot the next morning and said they were surprised that when they checked in at 6 pm that they were greeted with "oh you're lucky we were still here". Apparently they have online check-in procedures but you can see what I mean this isn't really being run as a hotel. There are 9 or 10 parking spaces for the 9 rooms, but you may be out of luck if you go out to dinner and come back, as there are no parking tags or other warnings that the spots are reserved. I had to illegally park across the street until a spot opened up. Lastly, they are simply not ready for prime time yet. The morning of my check out I was awakened by the sound of jackhammering and sawcutting at 7:41 am as several workers were excavating near the entrance and by the pool. Certainly the owner knew this work was scheduled and could have advised the guests of this activity. There was a complimentary continental breakfast provided but the area was not opened up until 8:35 am, very strange and it was just some breakfast bars and Keurig coffee. It's clear David has poured his excellent design knowledge into the rooms but he needs to get more serious about the service and having staff available, or list it as an Airbnb. The place has great appeal if these issues...
Read moreIf you're looking for a place to stay that's more than just a bed for the night, then you've got to check out The Velvet Rope Hotel in Palm Springs. This place isn't just a hotel, it's a whole vibe, and it's quickly becoming the hottest place to grab a drink or stay in Palm Springs.
Now, I've stayed in a bunch of boutique hotels, but nothing compares to The Velvet Rope. This place is the cat's pajamas, no joke.
I was lucky enough to score a night in their ritzy presidential suite (apparently Marilyn Monroe and JFK used to sneak off here). As soon as I walked in, it was like stepping into a time machine back to the glamorous days of old Hollywood.
A king-sized bed with a fancy gold and green headboard, a bathroom decked out in stylish black and white tiles, and a living room with a lush green velvet couch that's just begging you to lounge on it.
I can't remember the last time I had so much fun just staying at a hotel. I'm still buzzing with excitement and can't stop raving about my experience.
David Rios is the creative genius who also dreamt up the fabulous Trixie Motel. They're filming a documentary about his work and Mount of detail that went into building the Velvet Rope. Every inch of this hotel oozes his unique style and sophistication.
I'm already planning my next visit. I'm thinking of booking the Lucille Ball room for a friend and hosting a little shindig there. Whether it's at the swanky bar or one of the other seven equally jaw-dropping rooms, it's guaranteed to be an unforgettable night.
I highly recommend this place for an enchanting and luxurious night. Whether you want a delicious cocktail in a perfectly designed setting or to rekindle a relationship, it's the perfect place to impress, indulge, and show admiration for that special someone...
