Just want to start this review off by saying the rating is based on the actual hotel and not the front desk staff. The front desk staff was trying to help but with the many issues the hotel had during my stay nothing was fixed.
Before you plan your next Peoria trip and need a hotel avoid the Wingate by Wyndham hotel! Please read my review and see the pictures provided why not too.
We stayed for a five day four night stay at the Wingate for a baseball tournament with our baseball team. Once we checked in the issues started happening. The room I stayed in was 201 which was a king size suite room that had a king size bed, a pull out full size bed and a decent sized area for additional seating.
The first thing we see going down the hall on the second floor are room with broken key locks off the doors which wasn’t a good sign. Plus the ceiling had many areas of tiles hanging due to excessive water damage. Please see included pictures.
Unfortunately, we found out quick that our card reader lock for our room 201 would automatically demagnetize the cards after a few uses. We found this out after trying to unload the vehicle to go back and fourth to the room. After talking to the front desk they knew of that specific room having lock issues but issued new cards every time. In our stay we needed over 6 sets of new keys which was a pain after going up to the second floor and walking to the other side of the hotel from the entrance and finding out they weren’t working. This was a sign of not having a secured room.
The next issue we had in our room from checking in was we had two heating/ac unit registers to control our large rooms temperature. The one unit in the general seating area by the pull out bed barely worked for a few minutes of the day and the other unit next to the king bed was broke with pieces hanging from the bottom. So I thought it was a thermostat issue but found out that the thermostat was broke as well. After finding this out I contacted the front desk. The front desk said their maintenance person just had a baby and they don’t know when he will be back. I mentioned that this property was operated with four other hotels in the general area being part of Wyndham and the front desk said they could see if another maintenance person from another property would come and fix it. Unfortunately, this wasn’t fixed my entire stay. That meant our room was hot which made the entire stay uncomfortable. The front desks solution was a box fan. That box fan was moldy, discolored due to smoking and had tons of dust on the blades. This was a Kmart fan trying to control the temperature of an entire room which wasn’t the answer
The next issue was the full sized pull out bed. When the bed was pulled out there were actually springs going through the mattress pad which made this bed unusable. Plus there was wrappers and garbage from the previous people that stayed in the room prior to us under the couch which was disgusting.
After mentioning these multiple issues to the front desk they tried to move my room but the hotel was booked. They mentioned a third floor room which was a smaller room may be opening sooner but would be the same price. That was unacceptable.
The most disgusting part of the stay was my sons teammates family stayed a few rooms down from us on the second floor. After the first night they were bitten with bed bugs on their face, parts of their neck and arms. After this was mentioned to the front desk they had a pest company come out to confirm they were actual bed bugs. How disgusting.
Lastly the hotel never had a manger talk to me regarding my horrible stay due to my rooms many issues but had no problem charging me full price for a stay that was very unpleasant and disgusting. We are very disappointed with this hotel especially carrying a...
Read moreUpon arrival the hotel was very clean and smelt of being sanitized which was a great feeling with the covid-19 pandemic currently. Staff was nice, nothing extraordinary. As we went into the room it was super hot.. I looked at the thermostat which said 79 degrees. We then decided to put on the air conditioning in the room with the couch (wall unit) and change the thermostat on the wall to 70 degrees. We left as we were there for my daughters softball tournament. Arriving back at the hotel after my daughters games we realized they wall unit had water just pouring out onto my daughters bag which contained all of her belongings and the floor. I proceeded to make my way down to the front where I explained to the receptionist what took place. Thinking to myself now I have to wash and dry all of my daughters belongings as she needs her uniform for an 8:00amgame. The receptionist was nice, but was puzzled as to what she could do and her response is where I was upset. I was told that one, the washer was broken, two, I could NOT have the air conditioning on in that room and that I should open a window. (It’s January and snowing??) She never came to check on the leak nor did she seem like it was much of a concern, she checked to see if there was another room for us to move to but we would have to DOWNGRADE in size, never staying we would be credited or how much a downgraded room would be, I quickly responded with that’s not possible as I needed what we had or more options for sleeping arrangements! I was told that I could use the dryer (but would have to pay for it, I ended up stating that I had no cash in me ans I shouldn’t be responsible for having to dry my daughters clothes, she quickly gave me 4 quarters.) and that I could put a bucket under the leak and that the maintenance tech was gone for the weekend but would get him in on Saturday to look at the room, as we were staying two nights. That night my daughter who slept in the room, was extremely hot as we did not open a window in the middle of January (which there was no window in that room to begin with) and she had to listen to a steady drip into a bucket the whole night. Non the less she was not able to sleep very well at all. Saturday.... we left for games in the morning and as we arrived back at the hotel, a maintenance tech NEVER came to look at the wall unit or to check on the leak. The receptionist also never checked with us on the leak or if there was ever another room for us to move into. All in all, I paid $500 for a weekend stay and was not satisfied at all!!!! I was also not satisfied with how the situation was handled! I will...
Read moreAbsolutely horrible. This is our 'go to' hotel on our trips to see family in Indianapolis. It is a halfway point and have always had a great experience. This time, however, we did not. One of the attractions to this location is the complimentary reception. We always looked forward to the reception time after our long drive. This time, however, there was not a reception due to 'supply issues'. What does that even mean? Had we of known there was not going to be a reception, we would have stayed somewhere else. The hotel, also, this time was very dirty. Maybe it was just the room we were placed in but it was disgusting. The fixtures were rusty, the shower curtain was torn, the bottom of the bathroom door was painted a different color. I started the shower before I got into it and the tub started filling up with water as it was not draining properly. I waited for it to drain before I got into the shower just to see a bunch of hair floating on the water. After about 10 minutes, the tub finally drained and I started the shower up again. By the time I got done, the tub was almost completely full again! There were tiny bottles of shampoo which are NOT enough for two people. The breakfast was not good, at all, this time. There was not a good selection of pastries like there normally was and the workers were not friendly or of 'higher standards' that you would think would work at and represent a hotel. They did not care about their appearances and all they wanted to do was walk around and talk on their phones. This is no longer our 'go to' hotel. We will stay elsewhere as this hotel has gone downhill in the 6 months since we were last there. In response to the comment from the hotel: Housekeeping cannot fix the damaged, repainted door. Housekeeping cannot fix the rusted fixtures. Housekeeping cannot unclog a tub or fix a shower curtain. As far as the reception, it would be nice to indicate this on the bookings so that people, like us, who look forward to it know ahead of time. This way they can change to a different hotel, if desired. There were several men in the lobby expecting the reception. This location has many good ole blue collar workers that stay here and this is the highlight...
