The only reason they got one star is because the room looked nice and the lady at the front desk was nice. But as for the room looks can be deceiving. I chose this motel because I thought it would be a step above some of the cheaper ones in the area because it was a national brand. I made a huge mistake. When I walked in there was horrendous stench. it smelled like something dies in there. I then walked to the sink and was greeted by a roach. I called to the front desk and explained how horrible the room smelled. The employee stated that the hotel was booked and that she could bring some air freshener. She came and sprayed the room and noticed that the smell came back within seconds of spraying. She asked if I wanted to keep the sir freshener in the room to spray again. I was booked here for a couple nights and I was in a bind so I could not change motels otherwise I would have. I walked around the room trying to figure out what the smell was and everything ....literally everything smelled. The curtains, the piece of carpet in front of the door, the sheets, the air conditioner, the walls. the sheets had someone else's hair on them as well and the towels had makeup stains. There was no way I could stay there in these conditions. I went to Walmart and bought a sheet set to cover the bed and the pillow cases, luckily I had a blanket that I had for the airplane. I purchased extra strength carpet powder, Lysol disinfectant spray and Clorox wipes. I came back and drenched the piece of carpet with powder, and used almost a whole can spraying the curtains, the bed, the ac and the furniture with Lysol and wiped everything down with Clorox wipe. You could still smell the stench under the clean smell but it was more tolerable at this point. I even bought my own towels from walmart because theirs were dirty. Later that night I went into the bathroom and was greeted by another roach, woke up in the morning and was greeted by yet another roach. The only good thing in the morning all of my cleaning efforts seemed to have started paying off and the smell started to go away a little more. I emailed guest relations and they emailed back basically saying sorry and that was it. I have not heard from them since. I recently began a job where I will be traveling a lot and I thought Motel 6 would be a good go to motel. But after what I have seen I'm not so sure about that. This was a terrible situation for me... I literally wanted to cry because I had to stay there, I felt so uneasy and uncomfortable. And it actually made me feel unsafe as well...it made me wonder what type of people were staying in a motel like this and what kind of neighborhood was I in that this was acceptable. I actually had to sleep with the light on because I was so uneasy with the accommodations. and on top of all that . I spend $50 at Walmart on sheets and cleaning supplies trying to rectify the situation. I have never in my life had to clean a room or buy sheets just to...
Read more3 stars because it was actually very clean. I wanted to give less, but when traveling, staying in a clean place beats all else. Don't get room 253 though!!!
Now why I wanted to give less: I paid $109 after taxes and stuff during peak travel season when it seems they were almost completely booked. For $20 more I could have gone to many other places which likely would have been much better. But we went with the slightly cheaper option because Motel 6's haven't been that bad for us in the past. So negatives: Probably for safety, they closed the lobby so you had to go through a small side room to get in. This was annoying as there were other people checking in and I had to squeeze by them. The hallways smell of smoke. But my room didn't, so I didn't care as much. The rest are because of our room. Don't get room 253. Ask for a different one!!!
For starters, it was tiny. Like a studio apartment for hotel rooms. Next time we will get the two queen sized bed room which cost the same but has more space.
Next, it was a queen sized bed. Our reservation said king size. It matters cause my wife hogs the blankets and the more there is, the more chance I get to sleep with a blanket.
Next, our window faces the roof. More specifically, the stupid sign that lights up at night. Even with the curtain drawn, the room lights up blue at night a bit.
Next, the AC vent is broken so it keeps pointing at the bed when I try to move it. I had to wedge some paper there to point away.
Next, when I checked for bed bugs (which there weren't any), I saw the mattress was stained red on one corner. They flipped it so that side was down, but still. That's gross.
Next, there is no shampoo. That's a motel 6 for yeah, but for the price we paid this time, maybe they could provide some?
Next, only one out of four outlets actually worked.
Next, the shower curtain was kinda dirty looking. Not sure if they wash that...
Overall, we still slept, and slept well. Maybe because we got the little attic room it was quiet all round. It was clean. I would be willing to come back- but at the typical Motel 6 price (where I'm from that's 40-60/night). I suggest if you're traveling during peak season and paying more than $90, you should just go for an upgraded somewhere else for...
Read moreI arrived around 8 PM to the Piscataway NJ Motel 6. I had made a reservation as I was in holiday travel mode and wanted to be sure I had a room when I got to a good stopping place and time. When I arrived, the night clerk ELIZABETH, saw that I had reserved a room, but also noticed that I was put in the back of the hotel. I reserved, non-smoking ground floor, near the office, (with a refrigerator, if possible.) Who ever took my reservation saw refrigerator and thought that was my main preference... ELIZABETH immediately understood that my main preference was non-smoking, ground floor, near the office, Not by myself in the back of the motel...the problem was the other rooms in my preference area were booked. ELIZABETH tried to show me several other rooms, but they were not suitable...smoking, second floor and ground floor way away from the office. ELIZABETH went back to the computer to find a room that turned out to be three doors away from the office on the ground floor... That was perfect. While it did not have a refrigerator, it was right where I needed it to be. Neat, clean, quiet and I felt safe and taken care of. Thanks to ELIZABETH...WHEN I went to check out the next morning I was going to leave a thank you note for Elizabeth, only to find she had taken another person's shift who had called in sick. So, I got to thank her personally.
Yo have a very thorough and conscientious employee, in Elizabeth and I am grateful for her tenacity in finding me accommodations to meet my needs.
5 stars for Elizabeth... 4 Stars for Motel 6 and Not very happy with whoever plugged me into the original...
