Let me start this review with a positive note about this hotel. The location is great. Its a great walking distance to the boardwalk and beach. But aside from that, unfortunately there arent any other nice points about this hotel. We booked this hotel on Booking.com. and we were under the assumption that all fees were included in the booking.com rate. Wrong. Upon checking in our bill was $70 more. When we asked what it was for, they proceeded to tell us that we needed to pay $20/night for parking. As well as a "resort package fee" of $15/night for wifi and breakfast. (Ill get back to the "breakfast" later on in this review) when we arrived at our door, we had issues even unlocking the door. The key stuck and was impossible to open without physically hurting your fingers. (Fine, not a huge issue we can look passed it. It is a beach hotel so the moisture makes it stick. Understood.) When we walked in the room we were immediately disappointed. After paying over $700/2 nights we expected something a little cleaner. The walls and corner of ceilings were dusty, and the bed frame was broken. They also didn't have curtains long enough to cover the windows to stop the morning sun from coming in at 630am. Again, paying over $700/2 nights and these things should be a no brainer. Especially proper curtains. We ended up using the decorative piece of bedding to cover the window. Then we tried using their wifi. Not only did it have 0 reach to our room unless sitting outside on the patio, it also didnt allow for internet access. Fast forward to the morning, we wake up at 8am and head down for "breakfast" to our surprise, nothing was open. Office was locked and no one was there. Front door said they open at 9am. So we walked back down at 9am to see their "breakfast" was a bottle of apple juice and 2 small trays of 1/4ed muffins to share amongst the entire hotel. Keep in mind they charged us a "resort package fee" for what they called "breakfast" as well as non working wifi. 2nd morning (morning of check out) and we decided to take advantage of the last few hours by leaving our stuff in our car and walking to the beach for a little before check out. We were greeted by the manager at 845am with a paper stating that we needed to move our car to a side road to make room for the guests checking in at 11. Even though we haven't even checked out yet. And we paid to park there. When we didnt move the vehicle and started walking towards the beach, she yelled to us asking if we were going to in fact move the car. We stated we would move it when we checked out since that was only fair. After a few minutes of walking towards the beach we decided we would juat stay by the "HEATED" pool instead. So we wouldn't get sandy. Well that pool was NOT heated like stated on their website. Pool tiles were falling down and several parts of the patio bricks were broken and crumbling. We even wat hed a manager try to cover the broken bricks with a lawn chair to hide it. Upon checking out I mentioned that we didnt eat any of the "breakfast" and the wifi didnt even work so I would like a refund. After a few minutes she finally refunded the $35 and we left. Needless to say we will NOT be staying here ever again. I've never had a hotel try to nickel and dime me so much in my life.
EDITED TO RESPOND TO OWNERS HIDEOUS RESPONSE*
at no point does this property owner take responsibility for the poor quality of rooms and "resort " services. If you read other negative reviews youll see that the owner continuously responds in a defensive, non-helpful way. No remorse for the condition of their property. At no point did I mention sand in the carpet. I stated the condition of the room in general was gross and dirty. Dusty and falling apart.
To the owner of the property that made a minimal effort to address the issues stated above, thank you for showing me what not to look for in a hotel stay. My only suggestion would be to invest all the extra fees you charge everyone upon check in, into a better breakfast and some proper...
Read moreI’m going to rate 3 stars for now because I actually haven’t stayed here yet. I will be with my son this coming week. I was just trolling and reading the reviews and was shocked to see so many complaints about extra charges. Come on people read!!!! I must say me and my son pick a different place every year when we go to try out. This is actually the only place that we have booked that doesn’t charge resort fee upfront, that’s great option for some, as for parking as well it is clearly stated when renting your room all the fees involved. Parking and resort are optional. They also have fees listed to rent grills and grilling equipment . Stop giving a place a bad review because you failed to read the fine print . As for people that book by phone maybe they should explain the extra fees but honestly are u really booking by phone without looking at the website? They have it all posted. I was happy to see we take the train and won’t pay the parking fee, also still debating about the resort fee since I like to stroll for breakfast and we may not have time to enjoy the pool because most of our visit we will be spending with family that lives in the area. I no the location. Perfect for train riders and perfectly close to center of boardwalk, also right in the center tons of food options away from the boardwalk. Updated review!!! Check in receptionist was very nice and helpful, Other workers were friendly and would say good morning. Internet is not really great and we only got it when in the court yard. A few handles on our dresser drawer were broken off.Overall our stay was very comfortable. The beds didn’t hurt our backs in the morning .The room was more spacious than expected, the shower water preasure was much better than most. They give you soap but no shampoo or conditioner, but I always bring my own anyway. The pool is the biggest at any place we have stayed at so far In the area as well as the patio around it. The ac worked from thermostat which was very nice. The place was very clean. It’s an older place but you can still see the care they put into trying to...
Read moreWe stayed overnight the weekend after labor day, so off-peak. The front desk person was very nice, friendly, but away from the desk with the door locked at times. Rate was pretty good, considering it was September, but be careful. You can call it nickel and diming, or 'a la carte', that's in the eye of the beholder. But be aware that you will have to pay extra for parking, and the "resort fee" which includes discounted beach badges and "breakfast" which was some bagels and a toaster put out with cream cheese and butter, and coffee and water from a pitcher. This is not a resort, it's a typical kitschy NJ beach motel from another era. Those are great, as long as that's what you are after and take into consideration most of them are pretty old and worn, as this one is. It was clean, but well-worn (tiles missing from the pool in lots of places. We were upset that we chose this one for the "heated pool" since it was September, and we did ask on the phone and when we got there, but the pool was pretty damn chilly. And I'm a cold water person. It definitely was not heated by any measure, so we felt a bit taken there. The biggest WARNING WARNING WARNING is that DO NOT, under any circumstances, book on their web site. There is absolutely no security on the site, and by using it, you are essentially broadcasting your credit card info to the entire Internet, the entire world full of hackers and bad people just looking for this type of stupidity. That needs to be fixed, asap. They say they are one block from the boardwalk and beach, but it's a hell of a long block, a pretty long walk if you are carrying beach stuff. In any event, we got basically what we expected for the price, but they really need to stop charging for parking, heat the pool for real, and fix that web site ASAP or we...
