Stayed at Olympic Lodge during mid-July in room 339, which was an Executive King Suite on the top floor facing the golf course and a good distance down the hall from the elevator.||This resort is simply gorgeous! The decor, the grounds, the lobby, and the rooms are stunningly beautiful. I was very impressed at how well maintained this property is kept. It is a great lodging location in an area where most motels are pretty dismal. It is on the east side of the main "downtown area" of Port Angeles, and about a mile from the Walmart.||I was very pleased with my room. The room was very large and had one king bed with a padded bench at the end of the bed, a "living" area with a sleeper sofa, coffee table, sitting chair, desk & chair, and another small side table. There was plenty of storage space including a nice closet near the bathroom area and furniture including two nightstands and a console which had several drawers and also held the mini-fridge and microwave with a large t.v. on top. ||The mini-fridge was very small and needs to be one of the larger kind with a small freezer section (I could not fit all my cold items in this small fridge and it didn't keep things very cold either). The microwave was small, but it did the job o.k. I did not use the small coffee maker. The television was adequately large, but since I never turned it on, I don't know how well it worked nor what channels it got. The table lamps in the room all had dimmer switches which was a very nice touch I've not seen before in a hotel (you could control how bright each lamp got), and the one floor lamp could be controlled by a light switch near the door. I saw absolutely no damage to walls, furniture, and even though the room was carpeted, it was in good shape. There were no lingering smells in the room to hinder breathing, and the bed was comfortable (I bring my own pillow, so cannot comment on the comfort of those). The decor is rather dark in the room (it is throughout the lodge), so having the drapes open during the day in order to see may be necessary. The A/C was adequate even though it was very hot outside being mid-July. Daylight is long then as well.||The bathroom tub/shower and toilet are in a separate room from the main sink and closet area, but both were very nice and very clean upon arrival. The tub/shower/toilet area also had its own sink, so there were two in the combined area. The sinks did have towels racks, unlike so many hotels nowadays, so I was happy my towels didn't have to lay on the counter. I saw no mold/mildew in the bathroom area. I was also happy to see a grab bar in the tub/shower area, which I often need.||The lobby was simply wonderful and beautiful. My friend and I enjoyed sitting by the fire in the evenings (yes, even in summer they light the "real wood" fireplace). We also enjoyed the afternoon cookies if we were able to return in time to get some before they got gone for the night. I used the business center in the lobby to print my airline boarding pass. There was also a small "store pantry" area where you can purchase small items such as food, toiletries, etc. The front desk staff were very friendly and informative, even though they stayed very busy much of the time.||In the hallway where the room was located, there was a very small vending area and an ice machine, plus a "common area" located right near the elevator where folks could meet "on the floor" and commune. I used this area before checking out to "pay forward" some supply items I would not be taking with me on the plane.||The breakfast area was large, clean, well-stocked, and there seemed to be plenty of tables for all the patrons. However, the only "hot" item they offered was "make your own waffles." The rest of the "buffet" items were cold stuff, cereal, hard-boiled eggs, fruit, etc. They have the capacity and space to have a "hot" breakfast bar offering if they wanted to, and I think this would be a very nice enhancement considering the price you pay per night. I brought my own items and heated them in the microwave in my room, but having a microwave for customer use in the breakfast room would be much more ideal as there was not one. ||Even in a "sold out" week mid-July, there seemed to be adequate parking for hotel guests between the front and side parking lots. There are a few restaurants nearby within easy walking distance, and we took advantage of this almost every night.||Despite the few negatives I mentioned (the tiny mini-fridge and no hot breakfast available), I would highly recommend The Olympic Lodge for a stay in Port Angeles, but make your reservations VERY early for spring, summer, and even autumn visits. It stays booked up for most of the good-weather months, but it is seemingly the best place to stay...
Read moreI would say this place is OK. Completely overpriced and we only paid $150, I can't imagine paying even more for it. It definitely seemed like a nicer stay than many other locations we searched for in the area and the only one really with a year round pool and hot tub. The staff checked us in and were nice about us using the hot tub for a little bit after closing time. However none of the jets worked but it was still nice and relaxing. We felt a little weirded out afterwards when 2 male staff members peeked in on us in the parking lot while having a cigarette. We always try to be considerate smokers and would never smoke in a room or anywhere that would disturb anyone but seems they are so strict with their smoking policy that the man walked all the way out through the parking lot with what seemed like no other purpose than to make sure we were 50ft away from the building...just walked past us, said hello and walked back. I worry to think what would have happened if they deemed us not far out enough... $1,000 fine? That made me a little nervous that we were now labeled and under scrutiny and that they would try to find some way to charge us a fee even though we did nothing wrong. This, I among a couple of other little incidents, all seemed a little high strung to us. Icing on the cake is the incorrect way they go about charging for the room. Charged once on a hold for $165 when checking in. Then days later the hold had increased to $195? But in addition to the actual room charge finalizing. So now I am waiting for an extra $200 being held up in my bank account. Be aware of this when checking in and make sure you have the extra funds available. Still don't understand why the hold actually INCREASED after check out. Seems strange to me and that's not even the proper way to conduct a transaction. Always at a hotel they charge/hold with a little extra for incidentals and then the final charge is taken from that hold and remainder is returned. I've had this happen maybe a couple of other times and it's always a little frustrating when an establishment chooses to conduct their charges in this way. How hard could it be to do it the correct way and avoid inconviencing every customer...especially without explicitly stating this practice beforehand. In the end we felt we wasted extra money staying there when there were highly rated motels in the area that probably would have been just fine. We just personally always get lured by the hot tub and tend to chose to pay more for that amenity but this time it was not worth...
Read moreI had arrived around midnight to check in after a very long day and I was tired. I finally fell asleep around 3:30 a.m. . The bed was okay the pillows are your average poly fiber filled pillows and I couldn't get comfortable. I was woken up by a phone ringing in the room but I was too tired and didn't feel well and achy all over and so I didn't answer it. Not long after that, way before 11 a.m. I get a loud knocking on my door and she yells housekeeping very loudly. I'm still in my pajamas and she says oh did I wake you, are you still sleeping. I said yes I arrived really late and I don't feel well. She said I'm here to do a room change I can help you take your rooms your bags to your room. I told her I was not ready it's not 11 a.m. yet. Explained that it would be a good idea since the room is ready already. But the room change was made because the room I was staying at the first night was unavailable the second night and the first nights room was a King executive room with a view and it was really nice and I wanted to enjoy the more expensive room that I paid for. My second room was a parking lot overlooking the entrance to the hotel and was much smaller and so it was quite a step down although still a nice room, yet still expensive. About 30 minutes later I got another loud knock with yelling housekeeping and as I walked to open the door, the housekeeper had open the door without waiting and was ready to barge into my room with her cart of towels. That was upsetting and I told her it's not even 11 a.m. I'm not ready. She knew I was upset and she apologized and left. I called the front desk to ask to speak to the manager but she was unavailable and they said she would call me back. I called for help to take my luggage right before 11am. The first housekeeper and the manager came up to my room to get my bags. I asked if she was the manager and she said yes. I told her what happened and as I was explaining my frustration she interrupted and said I'm sorry to interrupt you but it's not hard... Which really made me more frustrated that she interrupted because she didn't care to listen to my frustration. I called her on it and explain the rest of my story. Her reply was a standard reply of it's not our intention... And it was very unacceptable explanation. There was nothing of how can we...
