First the positives. You cannot beat the location! Checking in, the staff was supper friendly and helpful. They even have beautiful wooden benches and picinic tables outside the rooms to admire the veiw. The bed was very comfortable as well as the bedding- a plus! The bathroom was old but clean. Your room opens up to a corrider which has windows and sliding glass doors which is a good idea in the winter and with high winds, but you cannot hear the surf this way. The king standard room only had one night stand, the carpet was old, torn and stained, the blackout curtains had holes in them the chair was dirty and had stains all over it, the furniture was old and worn and we were afraid to walk on the carpet bare foot or sit in the chair (dirty and stained). Suspected mold in room, as had an unpleasant smell, so tried to keep window open at all times. The one sink in bathroom took about 5-10 min to get hot water (not so with shower, which had the smallest shower head ever encountered). The sink didn't drain and filled up with each use. Was going to report it when checking out but no one at front desk when we left. We almost left after first night, as was not at all comfortable in that room, but we stayed out of the room other than sleeping there. They need to rip up dirty stained carpet, put down VLP flooring as allow cats and dogs there, throw out the old dirty stained furniture, make sure plumbing works and provide a nightstand on each side of the bed. Needless to say, we...
Read moreGet everything in writing! I made reservations in January and received a price, I confirmed room and price in early March (when I noticed they'd changed up their website a bit). Two days before my stay in June the owner called and told me there was a price discrepancy. During that conversation he told me it would be '$20 more because of the kids, not including the toddler'. I asked if that would be price per day, and he said, "$10 per kid per day'.
When we arrived I was given a bill for over twice the quote. Like other reviewers, I was told that there had been renovations and bad employees. While there might have been some behind the scene Stuff between Jan. and June; the price certainly wasn't $20 more because of the kids. When I asked about that I was told it was $20 dollars per person per day (which still didn't add up). There wasn't really time to look for something else (we were meeting family from southern California) or we would not have stayed.
The room was fine, kinda musty, but it's the beach. Some of the dishes in the kitchenette were dirty, but that wasn't that big of a deal. Wifi was too weak to stream Hulu. Views were good, walking distance to beach and Red Fish (great food!). There was a sign on the door for all of the things they'd charge folks for, which made me a bit paranoid. If I could trust the quote (and not be worried about being nickel and dimed) I might go back, but all things considered...there are beach...
Read moreOur room (# 3, older “deluxe” 2-bed room) was very clean (#1 priority) and we enjoyed a good night’s sleep on the comfortable beds. We would never return, though, as we were disappointed with the “feel” of the room as we entered: the old baseboard heaters in the room were not functioning (a portable heater was plugged in — in the middle of the chilly room — “Oh, sorry, there’s an electrical problem”was the general remark by manager when I asked about the situation). There was also an old, “tacky” paper on bath mirror saying that the tub was not usable due to renovations in progress (really?!). The view from the sun porch (with no opening windows and a very sloping, dirty floor) was lovely. We were in Port Orford on a Wednesday evening and had trouble finding any place open for dinner (the place recommended by manager was closed on Wednesdays). Ate at the Salty Dawg, a small town tavern vibe with loud jukebox music, pool tables — not a place I’d ever recommend to families with children, although we were entertained with the music and watching the locals. The food was good, as was the service. We were looking forward to the stay in locally owned oceanfront lodging, but disappointed with this so-called “deluxe room” reality — not the cute, quaint experience expected in a beautiful...
