Worst motel I have even been to. After a long drive we stopped at a motel that looked pretty cheap, we were hoping to save a little bit of money. At the lobby I had let the lady know that it would be me, a friend of mine, and his 3 year old son. I was shocked when she said it would be $85. I had noticed that all of the other rooms were vacant and when we walked into our actual room it was shockingly gross. everything was from the 70's and thats the way it smelled and probably the last time anything was washed.
There was no refrigerator in the room and you had to run the hot water for some time before it got hot. around 830 pm the lady from the front desk came to our room and told us to quiet down. We were not being loud, there was no music on and the 3 year old child was being fairly well behaved. It was xmas eve eve, so he got to open a couple gifts but there wasn't any screaming to disturb the other guests that weren't there.
At midnight, we get a knock on the door. It's an old man who "owns the hotel" he is accusing us of being drunk and insulting us in every way he could. I had not had a single drink and it's a good thing I didn't because he was kicking us out. Apparently he didn't like the fort that we had built out of pillow and blankets for the child, and he didnt like the x mas wrapping paper on his hotel floor. He kept accusing us of "being totally wasted" claiming "it's not his first rodeo" and he refused to give us a refund. So, it's officially xmas eve and the minivan is packed up and the room is clean.. the front desk lady gave me back $30 of the $85 we spent on the room and the evil old man warns us that there are cops around the corner and we drive off.
As we got down the road I started to get pretty mad, not only about the wasted money, the lack of respect, insulting us in front of a child but the fact that he warned us about the police meant that he actually thought i was drunk and forced me to drive away with a child in the car. Thank my lucky stars that i wasn't drunk and we are all safe in a motel 6. What if I had been drunk? he was perfectly OK with forcing me to get behind the wheel and risk the life of a 3 year old child, not to mention our lives and the lives of every other driver on the road.
It seems like there should be more to the story, like we actually were screaming or we actually were being drunk and crazy but that was not the case. The old man had something wrong with his brain. He basically stole our money, forced us out in the middle of the night, insulted us, and he thought we were wasted.. so as far as he knew.. he was sending us off to go crash into something and die with a 3 year old in the car. This man needs to be in a retirement home where he can be properly medicated and monitored by nurses. I have never met a business owner who acts like a child and has morals equal to an evil inbred...
Read moreI was really itching for some fish and chips and this was the only place that was open at 11am so my best friend and I stopped by. I'm really glad I did because this will be a regular stop whenever I come through again.
I got the clam chowder with the smoked albacore first. I liked the albacore but it was a little bit saltier than the chowder and it created a bit of an imbalance for my taste. The chowder itself was fantastic. Among some of the best that I've had and I eat a fair amount of clam chowder. It's rich and balanced with a lot of flavor, so it took quite a feat for the albacore to stand out. I'll get it without next time. My only real gripe is that there wasn't enough, so hats off.
My main reason for coming here was the fish and chips and they did not disappoint. The batter was crisp and the fish was fresh. I'm a minimalist when it comes to my tartar sauce but I like a lot of it and I definitely asked for more. The calamari side was crispy but a bit chewy. It's just as well because I was saving room for dessert anyway. The serving was more than enough.
Turns out they brew their own beer and root beer so I got a root beer float. Top notch root beer and a great simple float. No need to do extra when you have good ice cream and root beer. If I wasn't in a bit of a hurry, I would have sampled some of their sodas as well.
The owners were so friendly and the conversations were filled with great recommendations. We actually took them up on a few on our way up to Portland. I enjoyed the service and appreciated the recommendations.
Overall, this place is a gem. So many places don't properly fry their fish or they don't serve it with the proper timing so the batter just falls apart in a soggy mess. This was perfectly ready to eat. I also felt like my conversation with my best friend wasn't being interrupted at all. We talk a lot and the interaction with the hosts felt very natural. I highly recommend giving this...
Read moreThe new owners are super eager to please and determined to turn this place around. There is always someone available and ready to help with anything you might need, whether it be suggestions, more towels, or just someone to chat to. The office is stocked with all the little things you may need or have forgotten. We booked our room last minute on a whim to get out of town and visit one of our favorite beaches. Note, it is a work in progress still, as the landscaping needs redoing, and the outdoor areas need refreshing/cleaning up, but it has so much potential and after reading the reviews from years ago, it is light years from what it used to be. The room we booked was adorable, clean, and very comfortable.||||Our two-bedroom pet-friendly suite was perfect for the 5 of us (3 adults and 2 large dogs). Just enough space not to be up in each other's hair. It was wonderfully decorated, bright, and fresh looking. Kudos to who is doing the interior decorating. Although our room wasn't quite finished getting its overhaul/remodel (ceilings needed repainting, some touch-up paint on doors and edges, and a few minor things like handles on the cabinets), it was definitely pleasant enough to spend a long holiday weekend in and I am happy they were willing to let it out to us. The bed was unexpectedly one of the most comfortable I have slept in.||||The location is perfect, literally right across the street from the beach and a very classy restaurant, and right next to a deliciously unique pub (it closes up early, and it is such a small town, there is no need to worry about having a pub right next door). There is an area that is great for the dogs to relieve themselves, and the doggie poop bags are made available to you. If the owners keep on doing what they have been doing, this place is worth the money. I would definitely stay here again, in fact, I plan to, we are just trying to figure out when our next...
