Sea Wolf Books & Community Writing Center — Local services in Port Orford

Sea Wolf Books is a delight, a book lover's book shop. This cozy, well-curated space features a rich selection of diverse contemporary literature, including a strong showing of indigenous authors; PNW natural reference books; children's books; and of course fiction, poetry, and non-fiction. Special orders are accommodated in a timely and affordable manner. Charlie was even able to track down a rare Soviet sci-fi novel for me.

Writing classes are offered periodically and are accessible for all skill levels. In my personal experience with the Flash Fiction class, the facilitation and exercises were fun, supportive, and stimulating. An emphasis on positive feedback and bite-sized writing exercises made the class particularly satisfying. After the class, I've found myself writing for FUN for the first time in a decade.

Wonderful place. Charlie is a friendly owner too. They did not have 2 authors I was looking for... stopped by the following week and they had a couple books by each of the authors I had requested. Also, owner Charlie, knows how to write. Their book "A Wounded Deer Leaps Highest" is well written, heartbreaking, and honest - the detail which they write with is engaging and, to another writer, inspiring. Its cool to support not just a local author... but a local author who is actually a wonderful, thoughtful, talented writer. Im halfway through Charlie's book now and have found brutally honest humanity on every page. Request a copy of this book if you stop in.

The store is small but fits many books... and Charlie has curated a great selection. If you are a reader, this place is a must stop. Cool shop... cool owner... just the kind of place I want to support....

I took the "Starting from Scratch" online course and it was absolutely wonderful. Charlie's thoughtfulness is obvious in the design of each assignment, and their feedback about your submitted work is encouraging, helpful, and productive. I would definitely take another class from Charlie and/or their team. The course was professional and helped me stay committed to a regular writing practice. I live in CO but frequently visit the PNW and look forward to making Sea Wolf part of my next...
