Please don't stay here! I stayed here 21 nights over a two month stretch. The service staff were very friendly but the building and management have many issues. The building is old and extremely basic. There is not a single place to sit outside here. (A seat next to the smoker's pole doesn't count). One of the emergency exit doors was often cracked open leaving the hotel not secure. The fitness equipment is dated and malfunctioning. The pool was closed for maintenance on several days. All those things could be overlooked if management were friendly, but they weren't. Several times I had inquired about a 'Green' program that gives a little incentive to encourage guests to use less towels and linens which also lessens the workload for housekeeping services. (All the big hotel chains have this option including Hilton properties, but each individual place decides to participate or not.) Apparently the front desk staff never passed my messages to their general manager, as no one ever called me. So I booked my next stay at a different hotel. When I was back in town I stopped by to give them one more chance. I spoke to the general manager Rhonda Weller and her first reaction was truly shocking: she stated that they gave such a huge discount to Reid Health associates that they likely couldn't offer anything else. Yes, she implied that having tons of paying customers at a discount rate was a burden. She did promise that she would look into it. And explicitly promised to call me back the next day. By 4:00pm the next day no one had called, so I called the hotel. Rhonda had left for the day without keeping her promise to call me with an update. I was not expecting an answer, just for a person who makes a promise to keep it (especially a manger in the service industry)! So the next day she called me with the same upset tone of voice suggesting that I was some annoying parasite. She stated they had no interest in honoring any type of green program as it would just result in a bigger loss of money. I have never experienced such poor attitude and service from a manager. All I can do is take my business elsewhere and encourage everyone else to do likewise. Hopefully they get some better management and treat customers with...
Read moreCons about this hotel, I found were: we were in a King bed room, there was no mini fridge/or microwave. The pool deck was very slippery and treacherous. As you walk into the pool area there are very nice chaise chairs flanking one side of the pool, it's a somewhat tight walk around as the pool deck is tilted and it was wet from some rambunctious swimmers, it makes it hard to get to the other side. Also, from the handicap mobility chair, one of the bars was hanging over and in the 3 ft area where smaller children play. It could be an accident waiting to happen. Be ware if you're traveling with small kids and use the pool. The bed was bouncy an uncomfortable. I slept on the left side which is closest to the door, and probably gets sat on more. I pulled back the sheets and the mattress is dented and worn. My husband slept on the other side and said it was perfectly fine. I did not sleep well. Also, too many blankets. The coverlet and blanket combination is nice looking but for summer weather I woke boiling hot. We had some trouble with the wifi but they connected us to their internet support and remedied the problem. The pros about the place, the staff was helpful, the breakfast was really nice with real fresh fruit salad. It's your standard hotel fare waffles, scrambled eggs, sausage etc but it all tasted very good. The room was very clean, liked the layout, the shower was heaven (altho a bit slippery-- needs some adhesive ducks!) I liked all the plugs and charging ports. We are in Richmond several times a year visiting family. We usually stay at another brand hotel but it was full and we decided to try Hampton. We would stay...
Read moreAt the time of staying, the hotel was under construction, so hopefully, others will only have better experiences after mine/the construction is completed. The construction was all internal, and they were replacing doors, vanities, lamps, etc. And it was LOUD.
They worked until 730 pm, which was a little late, but when they continued working after 730 despite being promised by staff that they would stop, we had to call and ask that they stop (which we know is frustrating as they want to complete the work, but I cannot stress enough how loud it was above and next to us where work was being done). They did promptly stop and we were blessed with quiet for the rest of time, but construction during your full priced stay is annoying.
Also, separate from a temporary annoyance that will resolve (the construction), the mattresses and pillows were AWFUL. The mattresses were very firm, no give at all and the pillows flattened immediately with pressure. It made for a rough night sleep and waking up very achy.
The location was great, right off of I-70 and dog friendly which were big pluses. The staff were very helpful and friendly. No comments on the breakfast as we did not eat it. The lobby coffee was lukewarm at 6 am. Ultimately, I hope that part of the construction will be replacing the mattresses and pillows and that it will be...
