Hotel is very easy to see and get to from the highway. Parking lot is smaller than I would expect and it appears (to me) that there are minimal handicap spaces. However, I explained that I needed a space and asked if it was okay to park in "Diamond Member" parking since no handicap was available. The desk associate allowed me to, with no hesitation. I am very impressed that the pool is open until midnight. Not many hotels have pool hours passed 10:30, in my experience. The pool and hot tub are clean, very easy to walk into and both have hand rails. The hot tub was AMAZING! It's very well-lit in the tub so you can see exactly where you're walking. It is flat on the bottom, very wide and the seating space is ample. A sign read that it has a maximum capacity for "10", but it looks like it could fit several more. They keep towels supplied in the pool area so you don't need to bring one from your room. The pool is on the 2nd floor. They do have a fitness room, but I didn't check it out. The staff was always very friendly and knowledgeable when I had a question about the Rochester area. I forgot my razor and had to ask for one. The staff provided one with a smile! There is a laundry room in the hall behind the front desk. I did a load of laundry and liked how my clothes came out. Kind of small but exactly what I would expect a hotel to have. There are a lot of restaurants and shopping nearby. I stayed there for the weekend for a wedding and had some shopping to complete. I didn't have to drive further than 3 miles to get everything I needed, which was very nice. The first breakfast was so-so. They had Western omelettes but were all well overcooked to a near brown-black. Because they were overcooked they didn't smell appetizing at all. I'm not a fan of peppers and onions in my eggs so I wouldn't have eaten them anyway. They don't offer any type of potato with breakfast - only eggs and meat. The second day they had scrambled eggs and turkey sausage. The sausage looked scary but tasted far bettering q than they looked. Though tasteless, the eggs weren't dripping wet and mushy like you normally see in a buffet-style set-up so that was a welcomed change. I saw syrup but didn't see any ingredients to make pancakes or waffles so I don't know why that was set up in the kitchen area. The coffee is ridiculously hot - but I'm seeing that at all Hilton-affiliated hotels lately so I don't think that will ever change. There is an ice machine near the lobby. Plan on leaving room for ice if you expect to drink your coffee within the next hour from the time you pour it into your cup. We had a King suite. It was roomy. An elderly woman told me her room was very small and that she complained about it too the front desk. I can't speak for the other rooms but ours was spacious. Their pillows are very tiny. As in HALF the size of a standard pillow. They supplied 4 on the king bed and I still had to use one from the closet. The bed was very comfortable. They had an outlet/charging station on only one of the nightstands. If you have 2 people that need to plug in a lot of electronics, plan to have them on one side of the bed only. Also, the only wall outlet near the bed was on one side of the bed - the same side that the outlet/charging station was on, which I thought was weird since if you have two people in the bed it would stand to reason that both people would likely have electronics to charge overnight. You'd think that because one side of the bed lacked a wall outlet that would be the side they'd put the outlet/charging station on. Nope. All in all I am VERY happy with our stay and will not think twice about staying again if I'm ever in Rochester again. The complaints I listed above were only to be hypercritical for the purpose of writing a review, not because I was put off by any of it. I absolutely do, highly, recommend Hampton Inn and Suites -...
Read moreIf I could give less I would. Our swim team has been coming to this hotel for at least 5 years every March, and this year we were treated horribly. Toilet still had 'matter' in it when I checked in, and when I informed front desk staff was told housekeeping had already left for the day and looked at me like I was supposed to deal with it...no apology, no offer to give credit for issue. Family in room next to mine had to have 'ozone' treatment to get rid of smoke smell even though we all booked rooms on the non-smoking floor -- understand this is not the hotel's fault, but again - no offers of apology or credit for inconvenience. Had to call maintenance to come and clear toilet again after daughter used it to just go pee...again, no offers of apology or credit for inconvenience. When sitting by the hot tub was told no food or beverages of any kind (I completely agree with no food, which is why we had none) even the water I had in an insulated bottle because if I happened to get it in the hot tub it could throw off pH levels. I operated a swim school in the Twin Cities and know full well a few drops of tap water in the pool will not affect pH values...was told he had a CPO and a boiler's license so knew more than me...I may not know everything about running a pool, but do know that just water would not affect the pH levels to the extent that the county would shut them down...it would have to be months and months of the pool not being kept up for it to reach the levels in which a county would close it...hotel pools are allowed the highest levels of chlorine and off pH levels. You can use shock treatments daily to keep up on maintaining levels, this is in addition to the regular chemicals that are administered thru the pool mechanical system. I guess they wanted us to only drink the water from the 2 water fountains located right in the pool area. I will admit that others around the pool did respond poorly to them closing the pool and should not have reacted as they did. However, in my opinion these employees were on a power trip and were the rudest most condescending people I have ever met in the Hilton organization (and I am an honors member and have been very loyal to this organization, until now). I was not going to make any issues about the problems with cleaning or the toilet until they decided to close the pool to all guests. At that point I went to front desk to request credit for the toilet issues and the gentleman working the desk (don't know his name but it was not Lee -- he was the one that expected me to clean the toilet myself) was extremely apologetic and very understanding of the situation and gave me a full night's credit right away. I have never been at a hotel that did not allow even water by the pool. I will make sure our swim club never stays at this hotel again...may be only 10 rooms annually for them, but at least I can give my money to a hotel that will actually treat me...
Read moreSpent the weekend for a collector's Show. There was a basketball tournament in the area, so lots of middle school aged kids running around the property. Had to call the front desk numerous times Saturday 2/24 about the kids running and jumping above us, rattling the pictures in our room. The breakfast area was filled with team parents Saturday night getting trashed, no wonder all the noise from the unattended children bouncing around. Didn't get to use the pool since it was over capacity every chance we went to look with kids. Breakfast was atypical hotel now days. Didn't understand the "Chicken Sausage" but OK. The 4am Sunday 2/25 Fire Alarm wake up call was interesting. Guess it was someone smoking in their room. Should charge everyone's room cost to that idiot. The blankets on the bed with like table cloths and needed washed with 2 gallons of fabric softener. Our room refrigerator was like a freezer, even set at lowest ,still froze everything inside, pop, water, etc. Couldn't understand the cool/heat unit. Friday was at 65, bumped to 68 and A/C turned on. Turned to 75 and finally got heat, but middle of the night A/C turned back on. (Was 7 degrees Saturday morning outside). Wouldn't have been bad, but the paper thin blankets didn't help. Next trip to the Med City, I will be...
