We were in room 218. The young lady at the front desk was friendly when we arrived, but a bit unprofessional. She said "just a peak at your ID then", instead of the more professional "May I see an ID please?" It's a small thing, but she's working at the front desk of a hotel, not at the local coffee joint. I gave her extra points though for remembering that I had called and asked for a non-slip mat in the shower which I was told was available (thankfully, I didn't have to bring my own as I have had to at other hotels) and she delivered it to our room. She mentioned our status as IHG members, but failed to provide the little "gift" that we are usually given (usually a bottle of water and a snack). The night desk staff gave us a bottle of water and a bag of chips later though. It's not a deal breaker, but it's nice to be recognized and provided with a small "treat". The room was relatively clean, with the exception of some dried on whipped cream and sprinkles in the refrigerator. Bed and pillows were comfortable. The blackout shades are very nice and do a good job. The night front desk staff are very kind, friendly and helpful. The daytime staff is relatively nonexistent. I made several attempts to talk to them to address some problems but could never find anyone at the desk. We were visiting with friends in the lobby and saw one poor guest waiting at the desk for over 20 minutes for someone to show up. They never did, so we encouraged her to call the hotel and ask for help. Other than the yucky stuff in the refrigerator, the room seemed very clean. This hotel almost got it right for handicapped accessibility. The shower is designed well for someone who is disabled, with plenty of well placed grab bars, a nice, sturdy fold down shower seat and soap dispenser that is reachable from the shower seat, as well as a hand held shower head that is also reachable from the shower seat. You would not believe how many hotels get this wrong, but this one was a very pleasant surprise. There were only a couple of drawbacks, the hand soap dispenser is attached to the wall too far back to be reachable for someone in a wheelchair and the toilet paper holder is mounted on the wall right next to where your left leg hits the wall. The toilet itself is so close to the wall that the toilet paper holder digs painfully into your left leg as you use the toilet. We requested and were given a couple small bars of soap to keep at the sink so my husband could wash his hands from his wheelchair. Sadly, the housekeeping staff took the soap when they cleaned the room. We had to try to work around the toilet paper holder, but it was not comfortable. IHG hotels now use Dove products in their rooms. The soap and shower wash is OK but the shampoo is horrible so keep that in mind if your hair requires a certain type of shampoo. Marriot has much better shampoo. The shower in the room is awesome. I love the mist setting on the shower head, so nice to have that really warm mist after coming in on a cold, snowy day. There were a couple problems we encountered. There was a maddening, incessant beeping that went on day and night. Every 5 minutes, we would hear a series of 3 beeps. Both my husband (who has significant hearing loss in his left ear) and myself heard it. It would keep us up at night, or wake us from sleep and was maddening during the day. The desk lamp seemed to be malfunctioning. I could not get it to turn on no matter what I did, when we arrived. I was finally able to get it to turn on by touching the button, which I had already tried numerous times. I have no idea why it wouldn't turn on initially, but did later. It seemed to have a short circuit or something though because it would also turn itself on during the night and then turn itself back off. At first I thought, we had forgotten to turn it off when we went to bed, but that is not like me, as I like the room to be quite dark when I go to bed so I definitely would have noticed if there was a light on. The next time it turned itself on, I thought maybe my husband had turned it on and left it on, but he was sound asleep. A couple times it would turn itself on and flash repeatedly, waking us from a sound sleep. The combination of the beeping and lights kept us from sleeping the two nights we were there and made the 5 1/5 hour drive back home a nightmare. The other malfunctioning item in the room was the alarm clock. It was flashing 12:00 at us when we arrived so I set it and it appeared to work. That is until the next time I tried to check the time a few hours later. It was again flashing 12:00 at us so I set it again and waited to see if it was working properly. It appeared to be, until some time later when I again looked at it to check the time and saw that it was again flashing 12:00 at us. At that point, I gave up and unplugged it. I had trouble also with a portable humidifier that I had brought from home. I tried it out at home prior to our trip and it worked just fine. When I used it in the hotel room, it kept shutting off and I had to repeatedly turn it back on. I tried using different outlets to no avail. Once I got back home, I tried it again and it's working just fine now. There seems to be some electrical problem in the room that causes electrical items to malfunction. The view from the window was terrible. The window looks out on the edge of the roof of an addition to the hotel. Awful view. Breakfast was the usual hotel breakfast, scrambled eggs one morning and omelets the next. The oatmeal looked really good and was not gluey like it is at some hotels. The cinnamon rolls are processed, but quite tasty and the fruit was very fresh. There was also sausage gravy and biscuits both mornings we were there as well as sausages one morning and bacon another as well as the usual assortment of yogurt (Chobani), bread, boiled eggs, etc. The pancake machine works but not well. It spits out a large pancake one time and a tiny pancake the next. Weird. All in all, I'd stay at this hotel again, but would request a...
Read moreRecently I have traveled a bit for business. In general I like the IHG brand hotels and started staying in them. This is the third IHG hotel that I have stayed at in the past 45 days. This is also the worst.
To start the check in process was long and laborious. The clerk seemingly took forever to check in the three people in front of me. All appeared to be returning guests that normally stayed at the hotel. I still cannot figure out what took so long. When it was my turn, the clerk was adamant that I use a card to swipe to take my payment. The card that I used to reserve the room, I do not carry on my person. The past two IHG hotels have had no issue with me tapping my apple pay on my phone to pay for the room with the same card. The clerk told me no way, not possible. The "owners" of this property do not allow this. While I have other cards in my wallet and ended up using one of them, it just seemed very inconvenient to not be able to use my apple pay on the phone and go along my way. I was never asked if I wanted housekeeping service during my stay, I had been asked this at the last two IHG hotels that I stayed at.
The king room that I had was much smaller than the king room's at the last two IHG hotels. It felt cramped and tiny. The door to the bathroom opened oddly and just didn't seem to flow well with the room. A pocket door would've been a better option.
The first day that I stayed there I returned after a day of work and my bed wasn't made. At first I thought that I hadn't had house keeping. However, a little more investigation, I had new towels and that was about it. The next day, they made the bed and threw everything away that wasn't bolted down. Very oddly differences in the housekeeping that was provided. I didn't know what I was getting from day to day.
Sleeping was often interrupted by the Bimbo Bakery (seriously) that was next door to the hotel. A late night guy that moves trailers around in the dock til 11 or so at night and then more trailers moved around at 5 or 6am. Very little time to get sleep before the trailer slamming began again.
This property has a nice sized indoor pool. Why couldn't we get a hot tub too?
Breakfast each morning was the exact same thing every single day. No variety. I don't understand why there couldn't be some variety. This is a common complaint from me with IHG hotels.
Every afternoon when I returned from my work, the hotel attendant seemed to be more interested in their phone and sitting off to the side rather than saying hi or speaking with guests. I will say the lady on the morning that I checked out, 6/26, was very nice and seemed as if she liked talking to people. Everyone else should reconsider their job choices.
I'm still a fan of IHG hotels. I will not stay at this hotel again in the future. There is a chance that job travel may lead back to the Minneapolis area, I will choose another hotel besides this one. Even if I have to drive father to the location where I...
Read moreI recently stayed at the Holiday Inn Express and unfortunately had an unsettling experience that left me extremely dissatisfied. Upon checking into my room (Room 215 on the second floor), I discovered a spider, which was quite alarming. I immediately reported it to the front desk, and they offered to change my room. I accepted and moved to Room 609, hoping for a better experience.
However, the next evening when I returned to my new room, I was shocked to find an even bigger spider—on my bed! I took photos as evidence and reported it once again to the front desk. The staff member on duty suggested that he could personally change the bedsheets, which I found unacceptable. I requested to speak to a manager, but to my dismay, the manager instructed him to do nothing further, stating that she would address the issue on Monday since it was the weekend.
At midnight, feeling frustrated and uncomfortable, I asked them to change my room once again. Unfortunately, with no guarantees that the new room would be spider-free and no other hotels available nearby, I had no choice but to accept the move, spending another sleepless night worried about potential pests. The lack of concern from the staff was disheartening, and the fact that both rooms I stayed in had spiders suggests a serious issue with the hotel's cleanliness. When I inquired about their cleaning protocols, I was informed that rooms are cleaned only twice a week—this explained why spiders seemed to be a common occurrence, and staff appeared unsurprised by my complaints.
After enduring two sleepless nights with the fear of encountering more spiders, the manager finally contacted me on Monday, only to question why I didn’t just accept the bedsheet change. This response was incredibly dismissive and lacked any real effort to address the situation or ensure guest comfort.
Overall, my experience at this Holiday Inn Express was extremely disappointing. The lack of hygiene, poor customer service, and complete disregard for guest concerns make it hard for me to recommend this hotel. If cleanliness and responsiveness matter to you, I suggest looking elsewhere for...
