Asmodee is everything wrong with corporate interests and boards of investors purchasing IP licenses without the passion or industry knowledge to turn them into profitable revenue streams.
They bought Fantasy Flight Games while it was in possession of the LCG, TTG, and Miniatures licenses for the Star Wars IP. An IP that has massive international renown. At the time of purchase, 2014, FFG had successfully developed and launched the internationally recognized Star Wars X-Wing tabletop miniatures game. It was in the process of expanding this IP, which at the peak of its interest would complete directly with the industry juggernaut of Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 in terms of revenue generated. At this same time another wildly popular game under the same IP license was set to release from FFG within the next year. Star Wars Armada.
Over the course of 10 years, they intensionally crashed the most successful game they've ever owned and forcefully ended the other despite having a large fanbase both willing and able to purchase the products. This ranged from firing developers, forcefully downsizing event access, intentionally failing to reprint products, compartmentalizing the company structure for sale in a way that creates disorganization within the studios, discarding completed development work in favor of other product lines. They did this not because these games were too hard to produce, or that Covid changed the market too much as they've claimed. They did this because board interests and corporate greed came to the conclusion that these IPs weren't AS profitable as the ones made in more recent years and would never be profitable enough to handle the large amounts of debt that plagues Amsodee. They chose to shut these products down because their newer products had larger margins and required less to fabricate, which is a terrible reason to shut down a product that generates profit.
If you're an IP holder, don't license to this company, they will tarnish the value of your IP.
If you're an investor, they will lose you money with even the most popular international licenses and passionate driven development teams at their disposal.
If you're a brick and mortar store, don't get accounts with these people, they'll sell you product that they themselves will kill while it sits on your shelf.
If you're a gamer. Boycott these people. 3D print your own minis and move on. They don't deserve any more money and they're on...
Read moreThey used to be a great group to work with but recently new ownership has driven this company into the ground. They don't make enough items to even fill their pre-orders from customers who buy, stores can't get what they have ordered (my local game store says they are horrible to work with and constantly don't supply orders now), buying direct from them is not worth it either. Their site says items are in stock only to find out they are not, they don't respond email requests and you can leave messages all day but no one ever calls back. Their customer service is a joke. They won't even fix broken or missing components like they did in the past.
It is sad to see what used to be such a great company that cared about its products and customers go down hill like this. They must have a bean counting CEO who used to be an accountant running things now as the only thing they appear to be focused on is cutting costs. I truly hate it because they distribute some of the best games on the market and it is turning a joy of a hobby into a painful experience. I hope they pull it back together. A year ago they would have had 5 stars from me, today they are...
Read moreIf you're a gamer, they are a great company with fun products. If you're a business owner carrying their product line, they will screw you and your company over in a heart beat. High prices, small margins, unreasonable corporate staff that don't return emails or phone calls. They will lie and tell you one thing to get you to place a large purchase, then tell you another thing leaving you stuck with inventory you cant return. They care about their customers, ill give them that. But they DO NOT care about the stores that make their brand what it is today. Unless you're Amazon or Target, boy do they...
