So I ordered room service at the Doubletree hotel this restaurant is attached to and although I did order it right before they closed I asked and was reassured it was OK cause I said, I could wait till tomorrow. Anyways so I ordered the twin lobster tails with wild rice soup and they said it’ll be ready in 20 minutes. I tried to call back right away after I got off the phone and let them know that I wanted extra butter and garlic for the lobster tails And tabasco sauce and steak sauce (so I can mix it together and Dip the lobster tails in them) but they picked up the phone and hung up on me in an INSTANT before i could even get a word out. I was too nervous to call back. Well It took about 40 min i could tell it was already cold when i opened the door She was really nice though, so I still tipped her well but everything was cold. I tried to microwave it. I couldn’t microwave it because it wouldn’t fit in the microwave with a giant plate They brought me and I didn’t get any side plates or anything. The soup was not WILD AND RICE soup I HAD I ordered it was some type of brown mixture goup with vegetable It was starting to solidify on the top of it so I might grab that stirred it up. Took one bite. Wish i hadn’t. I don’t know. It tasted like it was in somebody’s mouth at one point and then they gave me a side of something. That’s obviously not butter and garlic. it’s a dark liquid, but somethings laying in the bottom of it. I don’t really know what it is. I’m too scared to try it. . There have me also some black tar looking stuff. I don’t know what this is supposed to be. It’s very dry and I don’t know it kinda looks like dried raisin's but smaller in-size and I’m not going to trying it. Extremely disappointed honestly want my money back the only thing I liked was the asparagus and that’s because I can actually eat those cold But that’s usually the next day and it’s out of the box that I bring home and put in the fridge. You know what I mean. I wouldn’t waste your money I mean, if they didn’t want to do the order they could’ve just told me that I specifically asked them if they could and I didn’t want to be a burden, but I should’ve known better. I had to go back and get the Tabasco and the steak sauce myself so it was even colder by the time I got back too. I forgot to mention that part just all over...
Read moreMy wife and I recently tried out Axel's, a small restaurant located in the side of a hotel. We were initially hesitant about dining at a hotel restaurant, as they often cater more to hotel guests looking for a convenient meal. The fact that Axel's had its own entrance at the side of the building was a plus.
Upon entering, we found the interior to be on the smaller side, resembling a large cafe with an open floor plan. There was a bar and a kitchen in the back, as well as a private dining area for events. Honestly, if we had known it was located in a hotel beforehand, we might not have chosen to dine there.
Given our reservations, we decided to start with an appetizer and drinks to gauge whether we wanted to stay for a full meal. Unfortunately, it took quite some time for our waitress to find our table. We were beginning to think she had forgotten about us when she finally appeared. She was friendly and apologetic, which was appreciated. We ordered the crab cakes and I opted for a glass of Riesling, which was priced at $12. The portion size of the wine seemed smaller due to the glass, but that's likely the standard amount. The crab cakes took a while to arrive, around 10-15 minutes. I must admit, I've been spoiled by other restaurants that are quicker with their service. The crab cakes themselves were decent, although they had a slightly fishy taste. When dipped in the sauce, they were quite enjoyable. However, for $18, we felt that the portion size was not sufficient.
After ordering the crab cakes, our waitress seemed to disappear again. Not seeing her for that amount of time was off-putting, despite her previous friendliness.
As we perused the rest of the menu, we noticed that everything was quite expensive. We have no issue with paying for a high-quality dining experience, but the combination of slow service and high prices made us reconsider staying for a full meal. Looking back, I realize that the reason we left after the appetizer was due to the lack of attentive service. It took 5-10 minutes to initially be served, followed by another 10-15 minutes before seeing our waitress again. Feeling neglected, we didn't want to risk spending an additional $60-$100 and an unknown amount of time for the...
Read moreUPDATED REVIEW: I came here for a second time on a Friday night with my mother-in-law. It actually didn’t seem very busy, but they must be understaffed here because our service was pretty slow and not a great experience. We both ordered the raspberry martini off their cocktail menu and eventually were informed that they were missing an ingredient to make that cocktail, so we had to pick different drinks. I had gotten an email for a free appetizer for my birthday month, so we ordered the spinach artichoke dip, which was pretty good. It had lots of big artichoke chunks (which doesn’t bother me, but I know some people do not prefer that). They did give us a pretty large portion of the dip, but not enough bread to use for dipping. We both opted for the French onion soup with our entrees. We thought the soup was quite delicious. The main problems we experienced were with our entrees. The first time they tried to serve us our main meals, my mother-in-law immediately noticed they had given her the incorrect steak. They apologized and said they would be back with our corrected entrees. It took awhile, but they eventually served us again - this time they brought my entree with both of the wrong pairings (I ordered the Alfredo potatoes and the signature green beans, but received mashed potatoes and asparagus). At this point we were getting frustrated and not confident that our steaks would be cooked the way that we ordered them. We spoke with the manager and said we would pay for what we had already eaten, but did not want to stay for the entrees. The manager was kind enough to dismiss the charges for our drinks and the soups, which we appreciated. Overall, it was a pretty disappointing experience.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Axel’s is a great place to go for a nice steak dinner, without breaking the bank. So many steak houses are ala carte, and don’t include any sides with the price of the steak, which ends up being so expensive. At Axel’s you get a lot included with your steak - you get a popover, choice of soup or salad, and two...
